Fictional character biography
editHephaestus is the Olympian Gods' blacksmith whose history is the same as his Greek mythology counterpart where he was born to Zeus and Hera and wed to Aphrodite.[1] Post-Crisis, Hephaestus forged Wonder Woman's golden Lasso of Truth and bracelets, respectively using the Golden Girdle of Gaea and Aegis of Zeus.[2]
In 2011, The New 52 rebooted DC's continuity. This version of Hephaestus is assisted by a group of laborers who were originally abandoned male children from Themyscira. Wonder Woman attempts to release them, but they choose to stay.[3][4][5]
Powers and abilities
editLike the Olympian Gods, Hephastus has supernatural abilities that include size-changing, shapeshifting, and immortality. He also has genius-level intellect and is an expert blacksmith.
In other media
edit- Hephaestus appears in the Justice League Unlimited episode "Hawk and Dove", voiced by Ed Asner.[6][7] This version created Wonder Woman's armor and the Annihilator, a living suit of armor fueled by violence. However, he prefers to include a weakness in everything he creates so that they do not become too powerful.
- Hephaestus appears as a character summon in Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure.[8]
