Mine dates discrepancy

From TFA: "From 1937 to 1969 the village was an active coal mining community" ... "achieving the milestone of '56 years service to the mine and his country'." 1969-1937=32 years; but award states 56 years. Does the award refer to service in multiple mines ("the mines" plural not "the mine" singular?), or an accumulation of mine service and some other kind of nationally-important service, or are the dates of active coal mining incorrect? All I know for sure is that the mine was very closed when I was born and lived in the village from 1971-mid 90's. Andrew Oakley (talk) 15:12, 8 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I guess the man referred to gained his experience in more than one mine and probably also worked at Highley. He may well have been from elsewhere originally, who knows. His name is mentioned I believe on the award in the museum and he may well still be with us - I cant recall his surname from memory but his first name was Ivor, I think. I checked back - he was or is, Ivor James Tolley. Jeremy Bolwell (talk) 11:52, 25 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
