Two of the sources suggest Carnes was instrumental in getting a "four mile law" passed in the 1850s, with the help of John Myers, a state legislator from Pikeville. I was unable to find any record of this outside these two sources. Tennessee's "Four Mile Law," which banned the sale of liquor within four miles of schools, wasn't enacted until 1877. Also, the Tennessee Blue Book doesn't show a John Myers serving in the legislature until the 1888-1889 term, when he was the state senator for Burritt's district. Note #125 in the Marion West source suggests Carnes may have been seeking a local ordinance, not a state law. In any case, we'll just leave this out for now, until a source that clarifies Carnes' role in the passage of the Four Mile Law can be found. Bms4880 (talk) 22:48, 4 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
