"Final" or "primal"?

edit

Does anyone have any information on the post-lockdown episodes now being shown? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rem486 (talkcontribs) 20:31, 28 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

On occasions when I have watched the show, I have of course heard the opening blurb many times, including the section quoted in the article as "The rulings are final". Yet I always seemed to hear it as "The rulings are primal". This may seem an odd thing to say, but I took "primal" in this context to mean that the rulings really got down to basics, without a lot of legalistic technicalities or fluff obfuscating things.

Then I read in this article that the quote was "The rulings are final", and this surprised me. While it may make more sense, it just wasn't what I thought I'd heard many times. Perhaps I didn't pay enough attention to it, or perhaps the television I watched the shown on had defective sound, or something. But after reading that it was "final", I paid closer attention thereafter - and, despite my best care to hear properly, I thought it was still "primal" - I could hear the "p" and the "r" at the start of the word quite clearly. A few times it sounded like "final" - but mostly "primal" - which does lead me to wonder whether the slogan actually got changed at some point, so that both versions appear at various times. Or is it possible that the word is said in such a way that, for certain types of loudspeakers or television audio circuits, it tends to sound like "primal"?

I was just wondering if anyone could clarify this. If it can be shown that it really is "primal" at least some of the time (most of the time on the episodes I've seen over a few years), then the article should be changed to reflect this. It is undoubtedly not a really important point - but any point deemed worth mentioning, however unimportant, should at least be correct.

Thanks. M.J.E. (talk) 10:32, 19 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

It's your hearing that's at fault. The word "primal" there would be completely meaningless; a "decision" being "final" is almost a cliche, and that's what's used. (Try searching for the phrase "rulings are primal"; an amazing zero hits.) --jpgordon::==( o ) 16:45, 19 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your view on this - I guess that settles it, in that case. But there is nothing wrong with the way I've heard it, so that's still a bit mysterious. I *never* mishear "f" as "pr" in any other instances at all, and I did pay special attention to it after reading that it was "final". Perhaps the T.V.'s sound wasn't the best quality. And "primal" would *not* be completely meaningless, in my view - as I said above, I think there is a reasonable way it could be interpreted. M.J.E. (talk) 04:21, 20 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

No, the narrator says "the rulings are FINAL." Minecrafter0271 (talk) 04:26, 2 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

User:Drmies, I was wondering if you could help me to make my contributions on this article more encyclopedic and grow here at Wikipedia. I wanted to discuss with you and was hoping you could provide your input as an experienced user. Thank you. Is there any way, I can add the edits back and restructure them so as to make them more encyclopedic? Would love to discuss with you at your talkpage, but it's blocked from editing for IPs. Haha! Thank you for your experience. Cheers! 2605:A000:4641:6000:E54D:96B3:56AF:D13A (talk) 03:21, 16 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Wide-sweeping reversion that is incorporating errors

edit

User:LooneyTraceYT, I'm really thrown on why you keep on instating the wide-sweeping reversion? Your version is instating factual errors back into the article. For example, your reversion keeps instating material that indicates that the COVID-19 adjustments to the show of no audience and Sheindlin from a separate location began late into season 24 during the lockdown. That is inaccurate. The safety adjustments to the show did not begin until after the lockdown as the show halted production at that time and was not allowed to tape. They didn't resume with the updated COVID measures until season 25, as shown here [1]. In addition, the information on the show's imminent departure coming up later on this month has all been sourced. Could you explain your rationale for the wide-sweeping reversion of material? ```` — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:6000:A403:5800:F9D2:3308:E653:4B86 (talk) 02:38, 8 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

I know this is probably a 1 or 2-week ago comment or whatever, but from what I have recently saw on his user page, he also thinks MeTV is a YouTuber (Yet it is actually a television channel) and misspelled “favorite” as “favoirite”. I tried to fix the errors, but the fix could not be saved due to a warning and the fact that I’m only allowed to do it on my own user page. 2601:4C4:4000:8260:3874:4BFC:4626:E940 (talk) 18:23, 23 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Which errors are still in the article? Or which revision caused them? I don't quite follow. Alyo (chat·edits) 19:36, 23 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
These are the errors still in his user page:
My favourite company is Disney (My favoirite franchise from them is The Little Mermaid. Favourite Restaurant is Chick fil-A. Favourite Popular YouTuber is MeTV. Favoirite color is green. Favorite Place is Universal Orlando (Haven't been there Yet). Favourite Book is Dog Man.
And besides, I think these errors might have been caused by a typo, except for the error on the “Favorite Popular YouTuber” specification, which was probably caused by the user forgetting to change the specification name. 2601:4C4:4000:8260:C65:AB3A:BA0C:7203 (talk) 21:52, 23 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Oh oh, so if you mean their userpage has errors, I wouldn't worry too much about that. But did that user add errors into this article that are still here? Alyo (chat·edits) 04:26, 24 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
I don’t think he did, nor do I recall him doing that. 2601:4C4:4000:8260:13D:88BE:D71C:1D5 (talk) 04:29, 24 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Episodes by season listed table help

edit

I am trying to put together an episodes by season list, which would be an alternate page linked to this page. Does anyone want to help me with this relentless task? I have started it but I have grown very busy in my personal life with a new job. I have other users who have offered to help. As this show aired daily, you can imagine the exorbitant amount of work this will take, so accept this task if you dare. lol! JudgeJudyCourthouse25 (talk) 15:49, 7 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Judge Judy → ? – "Judge Judy" primarily refers to the host of the court show herself, Judy Sheindlin, per articles such as The New York Times here, Fox Business, and Fortune. The court show she hosted should be disambiguated and "Judge Judy" should redirect to Judy Sheindlin. cookie monster 755 02:14, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose -- Apart from these sources being...not great, I don't think three links are sufficient to show that "Judge Judy" refers to the person more than the show. I can find a thousand sources referring to "Judge Judy" the show since, well, that's the show's name. Alyo (chat·edits) 15:28, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose, per User:Alyo. There is a tremendous history of shows named for their stars, and still differentiated from the stars. Judy Sheindlin may be most famous for the persona of herself appearing in the show, but it is still a persona, distinct from her personal biographical details. BD2412 T 17:46, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • What does that mean? He got a lot of his notability from his television series in the same way Sheindlin became notable for her television show "Judge Judy". My position is that Sheindlin herself is the primary topic for the term "Judge Judy" and not her (now finished) television series. Even this CNN article states that 10% of college graduates surveyed believed that Sheindlin was on the Supreme Court of the United States, in part because they asked by using her actual full name and not her professional name. If they were asked if "Judge Judy" was on SCOTUS that percentage would probably be less, suggesting that Scheindlin is the PT for "Judge Judy". cookie monster 755 23:06, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
In other words, Judy is only notable because of the show. Dr. Phil was a tv personality even before he got his own show, and then continued onto various other spinoffs, wrote books, etc. He has multiple areas in which he is notable besides the show, she doesn't. Alyo (chat·edits) 23:44, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Moreover, Dr. Phil was already known by the name Dr. Phil before there was a show by the name. BD2412 T 00:16, 6 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
