English Translation
editAs Kinyanna Rai's name is uniquely written in the Kannada language, it is difficult to translate the same into English. I have chosen Kinyanna as the possible translation since the middle letter of his middle name in Kannada is pronounced as nya. Each webpage has their own version of the name ranging from Kinnanna, Kinyanna, Kinhanna to Kiyyanna. I am opening this topic of discussion to find out the most-close English translation of the name. If there is an indication on how the writer himself writes his name in English, that would solve the problem, any citation on this would be welcome -- Amarrg 06:51, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
- In Kannada most widely used spelling is, ಕಯ್ಯಾರ ಕಿಞ್ಞಣ್ಣ ರೈ. Some examples, here and here
- ಞ್ಞ -> ಞ ಗೆ ಞ ಒತ್ತು -> 'nya' applied upon 'ny'. For me, Kayyara Kinnyanna Rai makes best sense, and next would be Kayyara Kinnanna Rai keeping the middle consonant to just 'na'.
- However, looking into google over the web, I see that most widely used English spelling is Kayyara Kinhanna Rai. While I personally disagree with this spelling, because there is no score for h to appear in the pronunciation, if that is the standard English spelling used everywhere for this person, then we might as well need to use that one.
- Whatever name is finally decided in this discussion, rest all probable spellings will have to be redirected to this article, to facilitate the reader who might search with any of those spellings. Thanks. - KNM Talk 07:20, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
- 'Kinnyanna' sounds the right one, going by the pronunciation. Should be the way it is pronounced in Tulu language, ideally. --H P Nadig \Talk \Contributions 06:45, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

Mentioning Caste
editDear Editors!
There has been a discussion on India Portal related to mentioning of caste of subjects. The point is that mentioning caste of people, who have nothing to do with their caste, is found to be unnecessary by few editors. Hence the caste of the subject person needs to be deleted from the biography. I am not deleting the caste as of now but am only posting this here so that the regular editors of this article are well aware of it beforehand and no edit-wars take place. For details of discussion held on the portal please refer Wikipedia_talk:Noticeboard_for_India-related_topics#Mentioning_caste_of_Individuals. Your views if any are welcome there or even here.
And.... as the reasons of exclusion of caste pointed out were "irrelavant to notability of subject person", "privacy of the subject person", "inclusion of caste is like branding individuals", etc. other information included in the article which also fall under these cases will also be removed after discussions. Examples of it included religion, non-notable spouse's and children's and parents' information, previous occupation, lived in places, non-notability related educational qualification, etc.
Your views on this are also welcome here or at the India portal. -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 13:44, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
- Not here, please. There is a community discussion taking place at WT:INB and I would advise people to read the entire discussion before forming an opinion because the above summary is incorrect. Nothing more need be said here. - Sitush (talk) 01:36, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
