editI noticed the article refers to her as "Maria Owings Shriver Schwarzenegger". She's never taken his last name legally or in public.
Should we say something about how Arnold is merely the pretty face for her decision making? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.129.28.37 (talk) 17:09, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
Birthday
editAccording to most sites, [1][2][3] she was born November 6, 1955, and this is consistent with being 47 in October 2003.[4] Sites like NNDb are not really trustworthy. Gimmetrow 02:42, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure it's actually February 6. I was browsing through a public records list and there are two Maria Shrivers, one under Feb 6 and one under Nov 6. The one under Feb 6 has a middle name "Owings" and has shared residences with a Sargent, Eunice, and Robert Shirver.--Fallout boy 07:03, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- I provided four references for my edit, you provided none for your reversion. If you can provide a few verifiable references, then the reasonable solution is to give both dates. Gimmetrow 11:50, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

- My source was peoplefinders, BTW. Does she have any sort of official bio? --Fallout boy 02:48, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- The only "official" bio I know of is on the state of California site, which gives no birthdate. Peoplefinders seems to have four listings that may be her. I can't see details without a fee, but from what you say above some have Feb 6 and others Nov 6. Where did peoplefinders get its data, and why does it have four listings and two dates? I'm willing to have a big footnote listing a bunch of refs for each that makes no claim about "the truth." Gimmetrow 05:30, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Personal Life
editI don't know what the protocol is for Personal Life sections in Biographies of living people, but this section seems to divulge unnecessary levels of detail where family is concerned... Descriptions of the full names and schools of all children, in addition to a family mass schedule, seem to be an excessive level of information.
This appears to be not only an issue of privacy, but also potentially an issue of safety, given that the mentioned children are those of a highly public politician AND international celebrity. In other articles about living celebrities, a simple list of the first names and birth years of children seems to suffice. perhaps that should be adopted here.
This issue is also reflected at the page for Arnold Schwarzenegger.

First Lady??
editIs it correct to refer to the position of First Lady as a political office, by using language like "assumed office in..." or "incumbant"? I thought the term First Lady was merely a respectful, traditional label. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.4.141.8 (talk) 13:22, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
How can Maria Shriver be JFK's siter if her parent's are different from his:
>[Maria] was the second child and only daughter of the politician Sargent Shriver and Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the >sister of the former President John F. Kennedy
>[JFK is] the second son of Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr., and Rose Fitzgerald —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.125.155.190 (talk) 00:58, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
>It seems like that's just the wrong grammar. It means to imply that Eunice is JFK's sister, but it can be interpreted as though Maria is JFK's sister. I think a small re-write would be better. SyNiKaL (talk) 07:32, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
Someone put that Maria Shriver is a Rupublican who, surpisingly, supported Obama. This is just false. She is a staunch democrat, so it no surpise that she endorsed him. FYI: I removed this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.166.181.182 (talk) 03:08, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
Lost Job
editIt initially said that Maria left her job at NBC but she was told to leave by NBC. Though she understood the reason, it was not her initial decision to leave. They asked her to. I am at this moment watching 'Oprah' and she is the guest and just explained this. Thus i edited her page to say so.

special olympics picture w/ husband

Agree! Please add a better picture! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.77.185.175 (talk) 08:12, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
Political Party
editShe has registered as an Independent. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.27.86.229 (talk) 20:44, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
An IP address keeps changing her political affiliation from Dem to Republican, what is up with that? She has always been an outspoken Democrat, and it is cited in the article, why the changes IP? TharsHammar Bits andPieces 22:42, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Irish descent?
editHow relevant is it to state that she is of Irish descent when a) this is not traced patrilineally, and b) you have to go back four generations, to 1823 to find the ancestor that was born in Ireland. This would only be one of sixteen great-grandparents, so I would argue that it is non-notable. DavidFarmbrough (talk) 14:27, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Article lacking Info
editHas this woman accomplished ANYTHING? As first lady of California and with a past of being very vocal on many issues-abortion, care for the elderly, pro-feminism, criticism of the Roman Catholic Church, broadcast career and political views, more information should be added about who she is. Like her or not, she deserves more information on her very public viewpoints, due to her position. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.68.12.17 (talk) 12:06, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
In the fist section, the article states that eunice (her mother) was the sister of jfk, rfk and ted kennedy. thi is confusing, I had to reread it 2 or 3 times to realize it was talking about marias mother and not maria. let's change it to read "Maria is the neice of United States President John F. Kennedy, U.S. Attorney General and U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy, U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy and five other siblings." The article is about Maria not eunice. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vann98 (talk • contribs) 00:25, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Main Picture
editI think we really need to get a much more recent picture of The Governator's wife. (Chat redacted.) - Some Dude You've Never Known (talk) 20:40, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
I'm on the same opinion and I just realized this is the official picture they took when she became First Lady Of California in 2003. That might be the only picture available...--Patlalrique (talk) 02:30, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
The current picture is awful, it isn't even in focus. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.211.196.218 (talk) 07:06, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
Please The picture that appears in the article right now needs to be changed. First of all, it just looks awfull and from looking through the rather large amount of pictures of her in a simple Google image search, it doesn't represent what she actually looks like. Even if there doesn't exist a newer, more appropriate picture, of her that can be used, it should still be changed into an older, more representative picture than the one that's there now (it really is awfull). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.100.62.161 (talk) 23:47, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
As Shriver is a living person, we need a free, appropriately licensed photo. We cannot simply find a photo on the 'net and use it. Unless specifically stated otherwise, such photos are copyrighted. File:Maria_Shriver_at_Womens_Conference_book_signing_October_2010_crop.jpg is released under Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 Generic.[5] File:Arnold_Schwarzenegger_and_Maria_Shriver-mod.jpg is a public domain photo. File:MariaShriverApr2013.jpg is released under Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported.[6] We can use those. If you'd like to replace any of them, we will need similarly released photos. - SummerPhD (talk) 16:48, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
I don't often speak out in favor of publicity-oriented articles, but Shriver supporters? You REALLY need to supply a better photo. Donate one to the Wikipedia Commons. I just saw her on Colbert Report, and any smartphone snap would be better than this. You are ALLOWED to change Wikipedia material if you have a vested interest. Just say so in the edit description, and drop a note to that effect here. 67.180.19.160 (talk) 09:25, 14 March 2014 (UTC)

Personal Life Announcement
editHi all! just wanted to ask a question here and perhaps clear up a small issue: On Feb 4, I made an edit to the personal life section because i noticed a small inaccuracy. A contribution added by User Ninebeena read as "The couple announced their split in November 2020." citing this source: https://people.com/celebrity/maria-shriver-single-dating/. It looked to me that the source never mentioned anything about an announcement from Shiver or Dowd. I did some Googling to try to find the announcement of this split, but i couldn't find anything reliable, so, I thought it would be helpful to make a small edit and replace "The couple announced their split in November 2020." with "Shriver confirmed she was single in May 2017." which seemed to accurately reflect what the source reference was reporting. I'm seeing now that Ninebeena has re-added "The couple announced their split" but i really don't see any confirmation of this announcement at all.
I've undone Ninebeena's change re-adding the announcement reference, but wanted to ask Ninebeena and the larger community here where the source is for this announcement? I just can't find a source for this anywhere. Thanks all! — Preceding unsigned comment added by JaredUram (talk • contribs) 17:19, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
Party registration
editOne source says she switched registration as early as 2011 from Democratic to independent, while she announced in 2018 she had made that same switch. In between then, did she maybe switch back to Democratic before then becoming an independent again? Or what's with this inconsistency? SecretName101 (talk) 20:36, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
