Angadipuram Laterites
editHi Narasipur,
I've had a go at the page in your sandbox, mainly to do with language. It overall looks good but some of the sections are a bit weak, especially 'history'. I'm not sure what you are trying to cover in the history section but it doesn't read logically at the moment. I'll give some thought to a hook, the obvious one is that Angadipuram is the place where the term was coined. Best wishes, Mikenorton (talk) 15:32, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
- some suggested hooks :-
- ...that the Angadipuram Laterite in Kerala were described by Scottish surgeon Francis Buchanan-Hamilton in 1807 and that he coined the term laterite for them?
- ...that the Scottish surgeon Francis Buchanan-Hamilton coined the term laterite when he described Kerala's Angadipuram Laterite?
- ...that Kerala's Angadipuram Laterite formed from the weathering of many rock types, including charnockite, anorthosite and gabbro?
I'll see if I can think of any more. Regards, Mikenorton (talk) 10:34, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
- Go ahead. Once you've notified me, I'll nominate with my second suggestion and add the third as ALT1 if you like. Regards, Mikenorton (talk) 14:14, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
- Done. Regards, Mikenorton (talk) 18:12, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
- Image added, I'm away on a business trip for a week, I'll try to have a look at the other article, but no promises. Regards, Mikenorton (talk) 11:38, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
- You're very welcome, enjoy your trip! Mikenorton (talk) 15:03, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Well thankyou kind sir
editThanks for your kind words. You also do a lot of great work on Indian and Nepal subjects, your recent article Diu Fort is excellent. We have enormous potential in terms of content and making the rest of the world aware about other cultures and places but so little time to get done what we want. Recently I've been developing articles about monasteries in northern India like Likir Monastery and I discovered that we have few articles about Ladakhi kings or Malla rulers of Nepal either!! I used to edit as User:Dr. Blofeld and added all of the VDCs of Nepal, as yet though the online resources needed to expand them are very limited but I believe they will be expanded eventually. I also started a series on architecture of Indian cities like Architecture of Mumbai which I hope will branch out and cover all the pther main cities in the same way! I wish I could do more work about towns in India but the country is so huge and so much work needs doing expanding them it gets stressfull! It is people like you from places like India which can go a long way towards giving the country the recognition and fair coverage it deserves, I just wish there was several hundred thousand editors like yourself too! Regards. Himalayan 14:12, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
That is quite a brilliant article Nvvchar. You should be very proud and it is better than most other DYK nominations!. In fact I'd be happy to help you promote it to GA once you create it. That is exactly the sort of article states and cities of India need on here. Well done! Himalayan 14:24, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Rajasaurus now a Good Article
editHi, Nvvchar - thought you'd like to know that Rajasaurus was promoted. J. Spencer (talk) 23:18, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
- Oops! I'd blanked that you'd already left a message for me about Rajasaurus! That's what I get for working on this right after work. It's a little outside of my usual topics, but I'll have a look at Eld's Deer. J. Spencer (talk) 02:26, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
- I found Eld's Deer to be an informative article, and content-wise, it's probably close to GA-level. However, the prose needs copy-editing before it can be successfully proposed to GA. J. Spencer (talk) 00:19, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

editI think it's ready to go, but as I proposed changes to the hook, I can't approve it. It will get approved by someone soon, don't worry. Geraldk (talk) 14:10, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, I see what you mean now, I was thinking of a different submission. I've looked at sources for both, and while the sources are clear that both the Fort and the Church are on the island, I can't find anything that confirms that the church is inside the fort, which is what the proposed hook seems to suggest. Can you point me towards that source, or perhaps reqord the hook slightly? Geraldk (talk) 15:03, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

editPlease see the Navagraha image. Can you read the text and tell description of the deities written on the plank, or at least their names in sequence from top to bottom. I want to separate the images so that they can be used in the Category:Graha articles. Thanks. Or at least can you confirm which language it is? --Redtigerxyz Talk 05:22, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, the names given in the picture with their English equivalents in parenthesis are given below.
Navagraha (Nine Planets), The British Museum - (from the left) Surya (Sun), Chandra (Moon), Mangala (Mars), Budha (Mercury), Brihaspati (Jupiter), Shukra (Venus), Shani (Saturn), Rahu (Moons' North Node), Ketu (Moon's South Node). --Nvvchar (talk) 14:07, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

editKondavid hook: a more detailed explanation and some related suggestions
editHello again. Please allow me to stress that the one reason why I brought up the issue as a comment was to make sure that you had noticed it: not as a form of snubbing or pedantry, but simply because it is quite likely that you had not been looking into this exact issue, and had not noticed the anomalies. It happens to many users (it has happened to me many times in the past), and the best thing I could do is to raise awareness - particularly given that your articles are otherwise exceptionally well written and are fine wikipedia assets. If one simply corrects such a link in the hook, there is the possibility that the other editor might miss it, and I hoped that by mentioning it I would also help improve the WP:BTW in your hooks and maybe (if applicable) your articles - that extra stylistic touch. In other words, to encourage you to look around and find the more exact or relevant articles for the internal links - the info we assume is under one title may turn out to be elsewhere entirely. There is innate difficulty in trying to express such nuances over a web exchange, and I hope I've caused no offense to you with my rather abrupt post on T:TDYK (such posts are always abrupt, by nature of the process). If I did in any way, I apologize.
Also allow me to note to additional issues: you didn't actually need to propose an alt hook, but just correct the link into the original one - as I would have done myself normally, were it not for the above rationale. Also, the characters in DYK hooks are not counting the first, hidden, part of piped links, so you need not have worried about length. These may spare you some effort in the future. Thank you and all the best, Dahn (talk) 23:08, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I just wanted to make sure: many times, comments such as the one I made may be seen as excessive or unmotivated criticism, and I felt I needed some more space to clarify my stance - particularly since there was a risk of it seeming like I was ordering you around (and my apology preceded other comments that could be read in the same key). It really is impossible to tell if I've not caused offense to the recipient in situations such as that one, and I'm glad to know that this did not happen in this case. Thank you and 'til we meet again, Dahn (talk) 04:59, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
Suggested an ALT. hook. Please see if you like it. --Redtigerxyz Talk 04:35, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

Yes, you might need a specialist book to expand it considerably but whatever you can do will be a great help. L loved the palace ever since I saw it in Octopussy! Himalayan 17:27, 12 November 2009 (UTC) That's a major improvement. I'm afraid my local library is rather basic but I'll see if I can find anything in google books. Just scraped Monsoon Palace through I think. Thanks for your help. Do you edit any articles outside of India? Its just I've long desired to make Kathmandu into a much better article but I need more resources. Its an awful article at present on a beautiful capital city! Any chance you could improve it?. Himalayan 22:09, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
St. Thomas Church (Palayur) need some fixing I think that was why. The references and some prose needed fixing.. Himalayan 12:49, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
I've looked at your work on Architecture in Sikkim . Very good. One thing though, the discussion of "mountain architecture" is awkward. When we talk of architecture we usually refer to the man made landscape rather than natural features. Discussion of mountains etc would be more discussed under Geography of Sikkim or Topography of Sikkim. Do you follow? Himalayan 12:57, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

OK it will have to be a little later i'm busy making tibetan county maps at the mo. If you visit my user page scroll down to the bottom and there are more places where you can find useable images for wikipedia. I've spent much of the afternnon finding photograph and working out where they are from the google maps given by them and adding them to articles! There are some quite useful ones. I added a few more to Monsoon Palace too. I've set them all on the required filters. The Picasa album is particularly good... Himalayan 18:44, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
I've uploaded the images of Korzok. One thing though. You don't need to ask them permission to use the images. They are Creatives Commons Attiribution 2.0 Share Alike. Himalayan 20:01, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
I've given the Rajasthan village article a copy edit. When you upload to the commons though please categorize them in the commons when you upload e.g Category:Bhadrajun. HI. I already DYK nommed the Khursha article. I thought you'd finished with Korzok!! I'll nominate it tomorrow. Thanks! Himalayan 19:30, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
One thing though. The infobox claims 19th century yet in the article you claim it is over 400 years old! Please correct.. Himalayan 22:09, 23 November 2009 (UTC) There are still some problems with Korzok Monastery. In the intro you claim Korzok has its name from the poor payment given to the nomads and means "acquired by unfair means". Yet you don't mention this in the etymology and say it is derived from meaning "place" and "management". I'm confused. Can you please clarify? Himalayan 12:05, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

You must have been watching my edits as I added your name within one minute of the original posting at DYK as normally do! You must have been on the page when I nominated it and when I saved your name immedatiely afterwards it wouldn't have picked up on your screen I guess. Narturally I wouldn't dream of nominating and not giving credit to the other author! Articles next? Well Ganesh Jayanthi can be fleshed out a little. Diskit Monastery can be expanded or an article could be written about the town of Diskit (currently a redirect). Offhand though I'd say Shey Palace is the one in most need of attention..
