Adding reference on wiki articles
Hello Ashwin147! Please do not forget to add references from reliable sources for the content you add to Wikipedia. Adding a well formatted references is very easy to do.
- While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which says "cite" click on it
- Then click on "templates",
- Choose the most appropriate template and fill as many details as you can,
This will add a well formatted reference that would be helpful in case the website link (web URL) becomes inactive (dead/link rot) after some time. You can read more about it on Help:Edit toolbar or see this video File:RefTools.ogv. thanks and regards --DBigXray 12:28, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
- to use this message place
{{subst:User:DBigXray/ref}}
on User_talk
In response to your feedback
Try this; I hope it helps.

National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer
Hi. Per your edits on National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer, official source does not say any song that you have pput has been awarded specifically. Secondary sources can support primary sources, otherwise its WP:OR. - Vivvt • (Talk) 16:53, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
Hi, Vivvt. Mea culpa then. But the reason I quoted the Manorama site is that it is very reliable. Also I notice there are songs mentioned for some of the more recent years that aren't directly linked to the cited pdf document. Also, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_titles,_honours_and_major_awards_received_by_Yesudas mentions them. But since you've brought this to my notice, I can't help wonder how these guys identified the songs. Ashwin147 (talk) 15:11, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
- Unless singer has only song in the album like "Hey Bhaskara Kshitijavari Ya" by Suresh Wadkar (58th), "Naadharoopini Sankari Pahimam" by M. G. Sreekumar (38th) or the citation refers to the song(s) in the album like "Couplets of Heer" by Gurdas Maan (54th); we cannot put the songs per secondary source. For the same reason, we may need to delete it from other articles as well. - Vivvt • (Talk) 01:49, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Hey Ashwin147; I'm dropping you this note because you've used the article feedback tool in the last month or so. On Thursday and Friday the tool will be down for a major deployment; it should be up by Saturday, failing anything going wrong, and by Monday if something does :). Lead DYK hooks
Ashwin147, it's great that you've started to work on building DYK prep sets. I've noticed that you've been loading mostly lead picture hooks, but not filling out the rest of the sets. Now that you've selected lead hooks for several sets in a row, perhaps you could give the rest of us a chance to select lead hooks when we go to build our sets, and work on promoting other hooks for a while. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:10, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
Hello Ashwin147. I've removed the link pointing to Saura, as I believe it is incorrect. Do you refer to Saura (Hinduism) or is it something else? Thanks for this nice article, btw. --Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 13:47, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, I just noticed that. Thanks for the edit. Will link it again to appear in the red as Saura tribals of Odisha. Also, I need a little help with one of the links showing a Spam filter notice Ashwin147 (talk) 13:57, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
- Which link/article? --Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 14:08, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
- India-crafts website for Saura Painting. Sorry, I'm slightly tech challenged. Its setting off the spam alarm even as I try to put the exact address here. Ashwin147 (talk) 18:27, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
- I've got it: http://www.india-crafts.com/saura-tribal-paintings-orissa.html. Yes, it is blacklisted, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Spam/LinkReports/india-crafts.com. It is blocked as it is mainly a commercial website selling Indian handicraft products. We can ask for removal from the blacklist at MediaWiki talk:Spam-whitelist, however, they usually don't allow citing commercial websites, see MediaWiki_talk:Spam-whitelist/Common_requests#Commercial_and_affiliate_marketing. On the other hand, the article on Saura-Tribal Paintings looks rather harmless. --Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 07:09, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
- Hey, as luck would have it a renewed search online has given me an alternate source that says the same thing. In fact I think India crafts probably just lifted the whole thing verbatim from there. So we can avoid the whole removal from the blacklist procedure now. Thanks, Vejvančický. It was nice of you to help me. :-) Ashwin147 (talk) 15:18, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Ajit Singh— Swami Vivekananda
Ashwin147, thanks a lot for your edits at Ajit Singh of Khetri article. If you think the article is GA ready, you can go forward and nominate it (article's length should not matter here, the article is the best one in the entire world wide web. I had to study a lot to prepare this one.)
See also: User:Titodutta/Swami Vivekananda's 150th birthday celebration initiatives. Do you have any other DYK suggestion?
The newly created article Eugene Chelyshev could be a good DYK. But, I am struggling with slow internet at this moment. And a part of it still needs to be copyedited.
Thanks again! --Tito Dutta (talk • contributions • email) 08:02, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
Hello there! I would like to know why Vazgen Sargsyan's image was taken down from the DYK prep area by you. I have worked on that article for so long and it was initially there [1], but it was removed by Crisco because of some issues with the hook. --Երևանցի talk 17:09, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
As the person who chose the entries in the set, it was upto me to decide what the picture hook should be. It has nothing to do with how hard anyone worked or did not work on any of the articles that were included in the set. And the prep area was empty when I started working on it, hence nothing there was removed or altered by me. Writing about a painting without a picture of it kind of misses the point I think.Ashwin147 (talk) 17:41, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
- that makes perfect sense now. thank you! --Երևանցի talk 19:23, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

Visual Editor
Hey Ashwin147
I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).
So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.
What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.
The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.
Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 21:28, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

Oddity
Regarding this, where is the evidence to support your edit summary? If it ain't in the article then the image is indeed pointless, and if it is in the article then it had better well be sourced superbly otherwise I'm going to remove it due to BLP concerns. - Sitush (talk) 13:46, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
True, it wasn't there. I've now added a paragraph on the same and included the image since it takes care of the point you've raised. And sourced, superbly, or at any rate with adequate, credible sources. Ashwin147 (talk) 14:23, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Aam Aadmi Party debate
Topic- Which of the two versions be preferred to go into the protest section of 'Article'
Option A -
ADD - The AAP has supported various regulatory complaints raised by rickshaw operators in Delhi.
KEEP - the rest of the 'protest' section as it is.
Option B -
ADD - On 16 September 2013, Aam Aadmi Party supported e-rickshaw driver's demand in Delhi that there should be a policy on battery operated rickshaws in the capital city to stop their exploitation by Delhi Transport Department. Party also said that a subsidy should be given to manual rickshaw drivers who want to purchase e-rickshaws. Earlier in June 2013, the party had supported agitations of rickshaw drivers against ban on advertisements on auto rickshaws alleging that the ban is imposed because most rickshaw drivers supported Aam Aadmi party & carried their banners.
REMOVE - On 10 June 2013, Kejriwal supported the agitation of Delhi auto rickshaw drivers, who were protesting the Delhi government's ban on advertisements on auto rickshaws. Kejriwal claimed that, auto rickshaw drivers supported his party and they carried AAP's advertisements on their auto rickshaws and this is the reason for Delhi Government's ban and he challenged that volunteers of AAP will put 10,000 advertisements on auto rickshaws as a protest.
There is no conflict over the validity of citations.--ratastro (talk) 05:19, 21 September 2013 (UTC)
I'll vote Option B. But what you propose to add should be better phrased. The details of the AAP's support for the rickshaw drivers matters. Option A is too vague. Ashwin147 (talk) 10:05, 21 September 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for your quick response. I tried to put these options in as neutral way as possible. Option B is suggested by me. Option A being suggested by Sitush which is backed by Binksternet as well as Qwyrxian. Please do post your reply in the article talk page as well. Also please feel free to phrase it better once it is incorporated in the article.--ratastro (talk) 10:30, 21 September 2013 (UTC)
