Welcome!

Hello, Azurfrog, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Getting the articles just right can be tricky - but there are lots of people to ask!

If you have any questions, just click on the Contact Me link after my signature at the end of this section. Alternatively, check out Wikipedia:Questions, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}} before the question.

By the way, when you are writing on a discussion page (or someone's talk page), it is considered good manners to sign your comment... to do this, just add ~~~~ at the end of your comment. That will put your user name (Azurfrog) and the date/time at the end (or you can click on the   icon when you are editing. Never sign on an article page - only on a discussion page.

There are several ways of getting help:

  1. Leave a message on this page. It is on my watchlist, which means that I can see when the page is changed!
  2. Leave a message on my talk page
  3. Go into IRC Channel #wikipedia-en-help
  4. Leave a message on this page starting with {{helpme}} followed by your question - someone in the IRC help room will be over as soon as possible

Speedy deletion nomination of Eliza Hancock

edit

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Eliza Hancock requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 22:45, 6 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

edit

Hi there; I deleted this article on the basis that she a cousin of a notable person (Jane Austen) but the relationship does not of itself make her notable. There is no assertion of personal notability in the article other than the fact of the relationship, and the article does not mention her as being an inspiration for any of Austen;s characters. I am perfectly happy to re-create the article if you wish to improve it to avoid further deletion. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 11:20, 7 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

  A noiseless patient spider,
I mark'd where on a little promontory it stood isolated,
Mark'd how to explore the vacant vast surrounding,
It launch'd forth filament, filament, filament, out of itself,
Ever unreeling them, ever tirelessly speeding them.

And you O my soul where you stand,
Surrounded, detached, in measureless oceans of space,
Ceaselessly musing, venturing, throwing, seeking the spheres to connect them,
Till the bridge you will need be form'd, till the ductile anchor hold,
Till the gossamer thread you fling catch somewhere, O my soul."

Hi there, all french articles related to "Jean Pierre Danel" have been deleted from Wikipedia. I suggest you to do the same thing !

Georgian society in Jane Austen's novels

edit

Hey, Azurfrog! I see you're checking up on me - keep up the good work ^_^ You might want to look at the quotations in particular, because I don't have all the books on hand to look up the originals, so occasionally I end up retranslating (which, while it's an interesting exercise, is unlikely to get us back to Jane Austen).

Embarking now on Homes, which will keep me out of trouble for a while.

Btw, what would you think of changing the title of Female occupations and pursuits to Women's lives or The lives of women? Just a thought (I'm kind of prejudiced against the word "female"). Ciao for niao, Awien (talk) 20:50, 27 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Censure sur WP FR

Bonjour, j'aimerais en savoir davantage sur la censure de la page François Asselineau sur WP FR, pourriez-vous me dire ce qui s'est passé ? Merci à vous. Ccfy (talk) 10:39, 3 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

No "censorship" involved! It just happens that François Asselineau fails the French notability guidelines, as heavily confirmed by a huge number of editors in the AfD. Clearly the French guidelines are a bit more demanding than the English ones, as they request that the subject of the article should be the main topic of significant secondary sources, which is not the case here. --Azurfrog (talk) 12:31, 5 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Misinformation on French Wikipedia

edit

Hi Azurfrog: I trust your intervention on French Wikipedia will achieve the desired result of improving Wikipedia's information. I hardly know what else to say, other than that I am disappointed, and trust French Wiki's contributors could be encouraged to be more contributative than combative? I was systematically improving its content gratis, but note your advertisement for a discussion page at Donald Adamson & others - would it not be possible for you to solve any apparent referencing issues without further inflaming matters? M Mabelina (talk) 05:39, 5 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

qv: List of Ambassadors of France to the United Kingdom

NB. the prior version of Elénor-François-Elie, Comte de Moustier is a classic illustration of how an English editor can help improve the content of French people on Wiki. Since I am interested in the subject I should like to make it correct, but given the contrariness on French Wiki it would be good to have some form of acknowledgement first. Many thanks. M Mabelina (talk) 03:58, 7 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Well, having blocked your account on French WP with all due explanations doesn't call for any further expatiation on my part about the matter, does it? As for List of Ambassadors of France to the United Kingdom, it appears that such a list already exists on French WP as part of another article, as you must have seen in the course of the discussions on WP:RA. So I strongly suggest we leave it at that. Azurfrog (talk) 08:25, 7 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
What I was hoping to hear was that we can co-operate & I trust this might well still be the case. It would be wonderful to speak rather than go down what I feel has become a somewhat awkward exchange, particularly since I am sure we share a strong mutual aim of enhancing Wiki. I should be delighted if we could endeavour to complement each other's efforts? Many thanks & best wishes M Mabelina (talk) 14:52, 7 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Jean-Pierre Danel

edit

I think you're right on the money with this summary. The article was so full of promotional, puffery and fake unsourced/poorly sourced claims early last year when I went through it. There's probably some still left—can't be entirely sure. Ss112 11:25, 15 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Truth is, Ss112, I chanced upon this article because there currently is a request for undeletion on the French WP, which led me to wonder whether there might be similar attempts on the English WP. Should you happen to manage French somehow, you may want to have a look at the AfD that ended up with the deletion of the French article; at any rate, the mere length of these discussions should provide some useful insight into the matter. Before the AfD, there were also long messages posted by Jean-Pierre Danel and his agents on the - now deleted - talk page.
To date, my own belief is that Jean-Pierre Danel more or less meets GNG, has indeed a considerable publishing activity (as he apparently bought for cheap the rights of many musical scores at the proper moment), but that there is such a degree of puffery and self-promotion around him that an article would be difficult to maintain in a "normal" state. --Azurfrog (talk) 13:08, 15 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I want to apologise to you

edit

I talked about DMZ Peace Train Music Festival with you on the French wiki. But I was very angry because my post was deleted at the time, and even though I was in a situation where I could fully restore the document, I made all the comments in an annoying tone. I remember you tried to help me with a good heart, but I might have been rude to you.

I would like to you to understand that I did it because I was just emotional at the time. And I'm so sorry about that. When I first created the document, I rarely put the source on it (because I want to do it later, and I didn't think anything would happen for hours). so it was my fault. But I was so angry without thinking about the cause. It's true that I understand Wiki's guidelines well because I've edited Wiki documents for a long time, but sometimes I tend to handle things so emotionally that I probably need to learn how to control my anger and handle things more calmly

Anyway, thank you so much for trying to help me despite my rudeness. You were so kind, and I got a lot of help to you. 올해의수상자 (talk) 01:34, 6 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
