JG Barbara's article
editI don't understand that my submission does not appear to be written in the formal tone expected of an encyclopedia article. I adopted a neutral point of view and I gave a range of independent, reliable, published sources. Please provide examples of miswriting. Jgbarbara49 (talk) 17:05, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Jgbarbara49: Dr. Barbara, with all due respect to your impressive academic career and status, Wikipedia simply does not want to deal with autobiographies. Autobiographies are almost always inherently biased, and they almost always get deleted. Take an example: Mrs. XYZ is a notable journalist, and she submits an article about herself to WP:AfC. She cites all the proper sources and adopts—ostensibly—a neutral tone, but what we in the AfC review team can't tell is what she might have omitted from that article. Mrs. XYZ might have, hypothetically, had some controversies in the past that she didn't include in the article. We can't tell easily, unless we do in-depth research into her background, which is simply outside the purview of AfC reviewers like myself. That's not even mentioning unconscious biases that exist about the self in every human being on Earth. Please read WP:AUTOBIO, and especially this section and this section, and don't take this personally at all. I'm sure I'd be honored to have a supervising professor like you when I hopefully start my PhD in the not-too-far future. 〜 Festucalex • talk 18:33, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
- Many thanks for your prompt and detailed reply. You convinced men with the omission argument. Of course most academics would simply create a new anonymous account with a new IP to post their biography with changes. But the omission argument makes me think that autobiographies would indeed need guarantors. I don’t know what kind of PhD you are looking for but I do supervise doctorates in Paris with university Paris Diderot in the history and philosophy of biology (although not in genetics and evolution). Also if you want to be my guarantor, feel free! My cursus was straight and it is reported on academic and institution websites (see FENS website for example in the external links). Anyway thanks again for your time. Jean-Gaël Barbara.Jgbarbara49 (talk) 05:04, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
DYK for Trial of Lina E.
editOn 21 July 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Trial of Lina E., which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that upon the announcement of the verdict in the trial of Lina E., court spectators shouted "fuck class justice" and "you are friends of fascists"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Trial of Lina E.. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Trial of Lina E.), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

- @Ipigott: A very good suggestion. I've already found some articles I'd like to create in the Meetup 280 page. Small question though: does the article have to be in these lists for it to count towards the WikiProject? 〜 Festucalex • talk 08:50, 29 July 2023 (UTC)
- There is absolutely no requirement for an article to appear in the Women in Red lists. If you are aware of other women from these countries who deserve an article, you can list them on the meetup page under "Redlinked names not currently included in a Women in Red redlist" where other editors will be able to work on them if you do not have time yourself.--Ipigott (talk) 10:01, 29 July 2023 (UTC)

New page reviewer granted
editHi Festucalex. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group. Please check back at the permissions page in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:
- Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
- If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
- Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Steps such as checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline are mandatory and will take a few minutes per article.
- Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any required steps.
- Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 22:44, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
Hello Festucalex, you declined the article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Klimaseniorinnen. While I understand the issue about more neutral sources, we looked them up and didn't find them. So my question is now: Should we erase those paragraphs and then submit again, or how do we go about it? Another question: In the meantime, an article in German about the Klimaseniorinnen has emerged, here: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klimaseniorinnen_Schweiz does it maybe make more sense to just translate that one? Thanks in advance! Agneta Melzer (talk) 09:29, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Agneta Melzer: If there are no neutral, reliable sources to be found, then the article would almost definitely fail English Wikipedia's Notability Guidelines. It wouldn't be accepted if resubmitted. 〜 Festucalex • talk 09:34, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
- Well that is not about the general article, I was talking about some parts. How about the other question to translate an already submitted article that is currently online in German? Agneta Melzer (talk) 11:02, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Agneta Melzer: You definitely can translate the German article, but please read Wikipedia:Translating German Wikipedia before you do. There are significant differences between English and German Wikipedia that you have to keep in mind. 〜 Festucalex • talk 11:16, 11 August 2023 (UTC)

editHello, I appreciate your openness to provide support. How can create a wikipedia page for my friend who is a musician? Looking forwards to your guide --Kevinlloyd02 (talk) 00:09, 16 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Kevinlloyd02: Welcome to Wikipedia. Please check if your friend fulfills the General Notability Guidelines and the Musician Notability Guidelines because, if they don't, your new article would be liable to be deleted quickly. Also, more importantly, as you are connected to the subject of the article and may have a conflict-of-interest, you are heavily discouraged from creating that article yourself (see WP:PSCOI). Alternatively, you can request someone else to write the article on WP:REQUEST. 〜 Festucalex • talk 04:00, 16 September 2023 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics
editYou have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
