Scrooby page

Hi Geoff! I am asking you a question as you are my mentor as assigned by Wikipedia!

I have a question about editing: I'm trying to make edits via my school computer at school on the school laptop about F1 using reputable sources from the FiA (F1's governing body), but when it comes time to submit my edits, the pop-up gives me a connection error.

I did some searching online, and it says this pop-up is consistent with blocks. Is this the case (I have received no warnings and have been editing in good faith), or is it the school computer Wi-Fi being very strange?

@A1139530: Presuming you were editing while logged on with your account, the most likely explanations are (1) a proxy/VPN running on the school's laptop or (2) the school Wi-Fi system is accessing the web via its own proxy/VPN via its router. Usually, a user logged on with an account can edit Wikipedia even if the IP address they are using is blocked. However, a VPN/proxy will interfere with editing even for a logged on user. (I have to disable my own VPN whenever I want to edit.) You may not be able to control either what runs on the school's laptop or its Wi-Fi. You can ask your school's IT resources about proxies/VPNs in use and/or you can try editing Wikipedia using another internet connection, either from home Wi-Fi or a café offering Wi-Fi access. If the laptop still cannot edit, and you get the access error, then you know there is probably a proxy or VPN running on the school's laptop. If you can edit away from the school, then you know it is the school's router/Wi-Fi system. Could also be both. Geoff | ^{Who, me?} 17:15, 15 November 2024 (UTC)

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
