Removal of courtesy titles

Hi MIDI I've been notified by Wikipedia of a recent change you've made to the courtesy title (Mr/Mrs etc) of the Head of a school I'm involved with in an official capacity. Specifically, removal of the title in the summary box, so it now shows just "A Smith" rather than "Mr A Smith" (for example). I see that you have done this for a number of schools. May I ask on what basis these changes are being made? Are you asking the individuals involved? I am receiving notifications from Wikipedia because my school's Wikipedia page was subject to a number of malicious edits in the recent past. While I appreciate this edit is not malicious I would appreciate your comments. Thanks. Rottnest21 Rottnest21 (talk) 13:40, 2 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi Rottnest21. Thanks for your diligence! The edits are to comply with the manual of style – specifically MOS:BIO, which says we should not use "Mr.", "Mrs.", or "Ms." (etc.).
I agree that an initial followed by a surname is not ideal, but is more compliant. Would you be happy to add the forename in instances you're familiar with?
Happy to answer anything else you're unsure of! MIDI (talk) 13:50, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
Thanks MIDI, your explanation is fine. I'm happy with it. Keep up the good work! 2A00:23C6:E80A:5C01:58CE:2333:31E1:2FE6 (talk) 09:51, 3 February 2023 (UTC)

Infobox canal "lifts" parameter

I saw your comment about lifts on Template_talk:Infobox canal, and have added a parameter. It is called current_num_lifts, rather than just lifts, but it does the job. I have used it on Bude Canal to check it is ok. Bob1960evens (talk) 16:23, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

DYK for Masurian Canal

On 1 May 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Masurian Canal, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that according to rumour, the Masurian Canal (abandoned lock structure pictured) was built to serve a U-boat facility? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Masurian Canal. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Masurian Canal), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

PwC vs pwc

Hi MIDI I'll put this as a topic in PWC(talk). I feel you may have jumped the gun. You can see that PwC's own website does occasionally use the latter - but only in images. 1.43.41.96 (talk) 13:08, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

Thanks 1.43.41.96. I think the question is whether the 'w' in PwC is actually italicised in the logo, or if it's just a skewed W. If it's the latter, we shouldn't use italics to approximate the design just because its a text effect that makes it look similar; specifically, MOS:TMSTYLE says "[don't] attempt to emulate font choices". What are your thoughts? MIDI (talk) 13:16, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
Well - in this topic's heading - compare PwC with pwc. The typeface PwC uses in these images is strikingly similar to the one used in these topic headings. Zoom your browser right in close and you can compare the two double-ues. The one used in PwC's logos looks to me to be an italicised font instead of just a skewed 'w'. Actually - I'll try to make the heading bold - that should more closely approximate what PwC uses. With luck this discussion will come to the attention of a WikiWizard with expertise in DTP & can confirm either way. 1.43.41.96 (talk) 14:11, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
You were right in doing what you did. PwC is the name they trade under - pwc is just a logo & it's not the place of Wikipedia to attempt to reproduce a logo stylistically as text. As per MOS on trademarks (though a bit murky) from EditorInTheRye (talk) in PWC(talk). 1.43.41.96 (talk) 05:38, 28 July 2023 (UTC)

I like the sound of this – I wouldn't want to commit before making sure I have time to dedicate to it, but very much like the principle. Gimme some time to work out when I can do this! MIDI (talk) 09:11, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
@MIDI no stress at all. Let me know. Also, many of the GAs I’ve participated in have gone longer than a week. I’m not fussy. Let me know if you have time. Cheers — MaxnaCarta  ( 💬 • 📝 ) 02:11, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
