Icelandic football
editHi. Thanks for your contributions to Iceland topics. As you might have noticed, I have contributed to Icelandic football. I thought I'd share a list of Icelandic football people who I think ought to be covered on Wikipedia.
- Ólafur Þórðarson (footballer) (72 caps)
- Atli Eðvaldsson (former national team coach, if I'm not mistaken?)
- Sævar Jónsson (69 caps)
- Sigurður Jónsson (65 caps)
- Marteinn Geirsson (67 caps)
- Gunnar Gíslason (50 caps)
- Ríkharður Jónsson (record goalscorer)
- Arnar Gunnlaugsson
- Auðun Helgason
- Brynjar Björn Gunnarsson
- Tryggvi Guðmundsson
A (somewhat outdated) list of Icelandic footballers with most caps can be found here. In addition, Wikipedia needs an article about Fram Reykjavík. Perhaps, if you get the time, you could cover some of these subjects? :)

Turkmenbashi
editHi,
I saw that you edited the Icelandic version of Saparmurat Niyazov. Can you please fix a little something: there's a link at the end that points to gundogar.org. That site is not written in Turkmen, it's written in Russian and English. Could you please fix that? I don't know Icelandic, which is quite unfortunate, as i really love Icelandic music - gusGus, Múm, Sigur Rós, Björk etc...
Oh, and if we're on the subject - what is the meaning of name Múm? :) --Amir E. Aharoni 19:42, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
- I have fixed the language indicator at the link, thanks for the correction. As for Múm it does not have a meaning in icelandic, the closest word to it is Múmínálfarnir which is an icelandic transliteration of the Moomin. --Stalfur 23:09, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

Icelandic/Old English
editHello,
I just signed up here. What an interesting interface...it will be fun to figure out.
I decided to contact you because I saw you had posted a few things on the Anglo-Saxon Wiki, and that you are also an Icelander. I have a degree in English Language and did much of my work in Anglo-Saxon and Medieval English. Strangely enough, I was initially drawn to Anglo-Saxon because I love Icelandic and wanted to learn it so badly. I couldn't find a way to learn Icelandic at the time, so I started Anglo-Saxon, sort of as a gateway. That was 5 years ago.
Since then i've been able to learn a little Icelandic, although not as much as I'd like. The Anglo-Saxon has helped me so much with the grammar, if only because there are certain concepts that are really hard to understand for those of us who don't already use them (for instance, noun cases).
Anyway, thought I'd say hi, since you mentioned being able to read OE just from knowing Icelandic. I have the same issue, although almost completely backwards!
Happy new year! Elizabeth
easytoplease 20:05, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- Glad to
hearread it! I've been proofreading an Anglo-Saxon to English dictionary over at Distributed Proofreaders Europe (each page takes half an hour or so, try to be methodical) and it's an interesting process, seeing words which I can relate to and then others that are way off the mark compared to modern Icelandic. --Stalfur 03:04, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
Unspecified source for Image:Albert_Gudmundsson.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Albert_Gudmundsson.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then you need to specify who owns the copyright, please. If you got it from a website, then a link to the website where it was taken from with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 05:51, 15 January 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 05:51, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Willum_Thor_Thorsson.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Willum_Thor_Thorsson.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 19:16, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Sigurros Thorgrimsdottir.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Sigurros Thorgrimsdottir.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 12:36, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Request for Help, please
editGreetings Stalfur,
Nice to meet you.
Could you kindly help me rewrite these 5 Icelandic passages into the proper Icelandic grammar? (based on the English version):
- Móttaka Heilagur andi, evidenced með því að tala tungum, er ábyrgð á arf okkar í himnaríki.
- ("Receiving the Holy Spirit, evidenced by speaking in tongues, is the guarantee of our inheritance of the Kingdom of Heaven".)
- Vatn Skírninni er sakramentið til fyrirgefningar synda og endurnýjun. Í skírn fer fram í náttúrulegu lifandi vatni, svo sem ánni, sjó eða vor. The Baptist, sem hafði þegar fengið skírn í vatni og heilags anda, stundar í skírn í nafni Drottins Jesú Krists. Og sá sem fær skírn sökkva fullkomlega í vatni með höfuð hneigði og snúa niður.
- ("Water baptism is the sacrament for the remission of sins and for regeneration. The baptism takes place in natural living water, such as the river, sea, or spring. The Baptist, whom had already received baptism of water and the Holy Spirit, conducts the baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. And the person receiving the baptism should be completely immersed in water with head bowed and face downward".
- The sakramentið á fætur þvottur gerir eitt að hafa hluti með Drottni Jesú. Það þjónar líka sem stöðug áminning um að einn ætti að hafa kærleika, heilagleika, auðmýkt, fyrirgefningu og þjónustu. Sérhver sá hafa fengið vatni skírn ætti að fótum laugast í nafni Jesú Krists. Gagnkvæm fætur þvegið verið stundaður hvenær er viðeigandi.
- ("The sacrament of feet washing enables one to have a part with the Lord Jesus. It also serves as a constant reminder that one should have love, holiness, humility, forgiveness and service. Every person who has received water baptism should have their feet washed in the name of Jesus Christ. Mutual feet washing may be practiced whenever is appropriate".)
- ("The Holy Communion is the sacrament to commemorate the death of the Lord Jesus Christ. It enables us to partake of the flesh and blood of our Lord and to be in communion with Him so that we can have eternal life and be raised on the Last Day. This sacrament should be held as often as possible. Only one unleavened bread and grape juice is used".)
- ("The Sabbath day, the seventh day of the week (Saturday), is a Holy Day, blessed and sanctified by God. It is to be observed under the Lord's grace for the commemoration of God's creation and salvation and with the hope of eternal rest in the life to come".)
Your help would be very Gratefully Appreciated, Thankyou very much. --Jose77 (talk) 23:13, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs
editHello Stalfur! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 74 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:
- Sigurrós Þorgrímsdóttir - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
Thanks!--DASHBot (talk) 18:42, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
The article Knattspyrnufélagið Fram has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- This is clearly a work-in-progress by an editor who really doesn't seem to have grasped Wikipedia article formatting at all. Can I suggest it would be better to delete this and userfy a copy so the editor can practice on it until it's getting closer to main space quality - and direct the editor to have a look at WP:MOS?
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 14:05, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference
editHello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.
On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true
. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false
in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.
For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.
Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:33, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for September 23
editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Southern District (Botswana), you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Good Hope and Musi (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:26, 23 September 2013 (UTC)
maintenance templates are not "boilerplates"
editI may have misunderstood your edit here. My interpretation was that individual sections or even statements should be tagged rather than the article. If I understood that correctly, then I applied tags more directly even though it disrupts the flow of the article more than the general template. However, if you were saying that there were enough references, that's not the case. The age of such a maintenance template is immaterial. Templates are placed on articles to help identify problems. The important thing is that the problem is resolved. It wasn't resolved when you removed the template so in the future, please take more care when removing templates like this. Also, it's not a boilerplate either, it adds hidden categories to the article and they help in addressing problem articles for editors who know where to look. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite
editHi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

Icelandic names
editI'm well aware of Icelandic patronyms, thanks. But why are you so bothered about this particular template? In every other Icelandic template, whether it be managers, national team squads, or top scorers, the Icelandic names are always referred to by their "surnames". Yes, it's not correct, but it's the done thing around here. APM (talk) 13:07, 25 November 2016 (UTC)AmorPatiturMoras
