Your help desk questions
editYou didn't get a response. Someone moved and reformatted your question, but that was it. You were asking about a template and I was wondering if you figured that out because I don't know how to help you. It is possible your question is suitable for WP:VPT.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 22:32, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
Yes! Thank you for the response! I will go check out WP:VPT and see how that goes. The Editor's Apprentice (talk) 23:02, 4 December 2017 (UTC)
- Your latest question may be one WP:VPT can answer. or did you find your answer?— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 22:25, 26 December 2018 (UTC)
- I did not find an answer to my question about the collapsability of sections, I'll take your suggestion and try asking on the Villiage Pump, thanks! —The Editor's Apprentice (Talk•Edits) 01:08, 27 December 2018 (UTC)
Teahouse dabblers
editI, for one, often comment at Teahouse, even though not a host. On a few occasions a host has corrected an error of mine, but have not (yet) received a suggestion that I stop. Another way to participate is to put a response on the questioner's Talk page - as I am doing here - because that is less public. David notMD (talk) 09:18, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
Sounds good, I'll consider acting similar in the future! The Editor's Apprentice (talk) 22:26, 2 August 2018 (UTC)

Your edit to "Triangle wave"
editThis is a response to your question on Deacon Vorbis' talk page. I checked your edit and it was a good simplification. I don't know why Deacon Vorbis reverted it. Jrheller1 (talk) 17:12, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
- Good to know, thanks for looking at it. Should I go ahead and undo the reversion or should I wait for Deacon Vorbis to reply when their less busy with real life to prevent possible edit warring?—T.E.A. (Talk•Edits) 18:52, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
- The equations were OK before your edit, so there is no need to revert Deacon Vorbis. Just wanted to let you know that I didn't see anything wrong with your edit. Just two equivalent ways of presenting the equations; neither is really better than the other. Jrheller1 (talk) 19:06, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
- I understand that neither are wrong, but I would disagree that neither is better than the other. That is why I asked about undoing Deacon Vorbis' change, I think that my change was an improvement, and so it should be the one that is presented. —T.E.A. (Talk•Edits) 21:45, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
- I agree with you, so I reverted back to your edit. Jrheller1 (talk) 22:30, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
Strikethrough
editJust FYI, the <strike>...</strike>
element hasn't existed in HTML since the 1990s. It's <s>...</s>
. Using the old version impedes our migration to HTML 5, and will also look completely terrible to anyone doing WP:LINT cleanup. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 21:53, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

Re: Some Proposed Changes
editHi! I hope you're doing well. I had submitted a request to add/edit some content on Prof. Miguel Garcia-Garibay's[1] Wikipedia page some time ago; but, because I was unresponsive, the edit request was declared answered. Would you mind if we continued reviewing the contents of my edits? Thank you very much for your time. Wikijg (talk) 18:10, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, I should be more responsive and you have caught me in a moment of hypocrisy, I'll try to get to it today, and if not today, definitely tomorrow. I greatly appreciate your patience. The Editor's Apprentice (talk) 18:14, 22 July 2019 (UTC)

editGoogle Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!
editHello,
Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!
From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.
If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.
Thank you!

editRe: Profanity in Wikipedia articles
editHey, The Editor's Apprentice. About my changes on the nightcore page, I do feel that my edit was called for. You cite an article that states that Wikipedia is not censored, but this is mainly to do with offensive material/profanity on pages that cover said material, rather than profanity on unrelated pages. The metric I used to determine the edit was whether or not the use of the f-word was encyclopedic in nature, which I determined it was not. While it does represent the original quote, the use of the profanity is not required to get the message across, and leaving the f-word in does not give the reader any more information than censoring it. I deemed the profanity unnecessary, and so I censored it. Hope this clears it up, and feel free to contact me if we still have any differences of opinion! —TechnoSquirrel69 (talk) 12:07, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
- TechnoSquirrel69, it is unclear to me what part of the Wikipedia is not censored policy states that it is mainly focused on pages were the subject is something profane and not applicable to all articles. Can you point me to the specific text which says so? Thanks and take care. —The Editor's Apprentice (talk) 17:50, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
- I was more referring to this article, which states that profanity is unnecessary unless its inclusion is deemed encyclopedic and informative. However, I realized I violated a policy about mincing the profanity and therefore I removed the word entirely. However, that brings up another issue of altering the original quote. Since it seems that neither of us is going to convince the other, let's agree to disagree, and make a compromise: we can remove the quotation or (preferably) look for another one. What do you say? —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 04:16, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply, TechnoSquirrel69. Apologies if you are kept blocked and don't get the chance to respond this message. I had honestly forgotten about Wikipedia:Offensive material and you are correct in saying it is relevant to our discussion. I think removing the direct quote and just paraphrasing the source makes the most sense and is inline with the policies. With that, I've gone ahead and made such a change. Additionally, I agree with you that having more sources word be preferable, on the same topic and for the article in general. Unfortunately, I don't plan to focus my energies on the Nightcore article at the moment. Thanks for the informative and civil conversation and take care. —The Editor's Apprentice (talk) 23:38, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hey, The Editor's Apprentice! It took a bit of a while, but my account was fortunately reinstated. I am in agreement with your changes, and I'll leave them as they are. It was nice talking to you as well. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 06:48, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

editHi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited United States Postal Service, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Check. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

editHow I got here
editRe:
- I would be interested if you, the reader, took a moment to leave a comment on my talk page noting how you happened upon this page.
I got here because your screenshot is used in the help article Talk pages, credited with a link to your user page. Shells-shells (talk) 00:13, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Shells-shells: Thank you for the note! That makes sense as a way to get to my user page and is probably the case for a number of the other views. I'll probably remove the section from my userpage now as the mystery has been solved. As a side note, and since you seem to be newer here, the standard way to quote things on talk pages is to use the template {{tq}}. It is no big deal to do it another way, just thought I'd let you know. Take care. —The Editor's Apprentice (talk) 06:50, 25 November 2021 (UTC)

editI got here via File:English Wikipedia Alert Menu Example.png, same as Shells-shells. Edward-Woodrow :) [talk] 19:59, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note :-). I've finally gotten around to removing the section from my userpage asking about the increase in page views as I said I would over a year ago. Take care. —The Editor's Apprentice (talk) 03:29, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
Ian Lipkin page
editThanks for the correction; I misread. The sentence creates some confusion because, in the context, it reads like he was sick with SARS in 2003. Do you have suggestions on how to clarify? TenaciousTanuki (talk) 05:26, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi there, I agree that the sentence I re-added does make it sound like Lipkin was sick with SARS in 2003 given the surrounding text. I'm not sure the source says that he wasn't sick with SARS either, though. Trying to find other sources on the subject has so far led me only to other Columbia University articles ([1][2]) which are similarly vague. The "Mailman School..." article does say "he assisted [...] in managing the SARS outbreak—at some personal peril; he became ill and was quarantined", though which is slightly more suggestive towards Lipkin becoming sick with SARS specifically. I think the best way forward is to try and find a source which is specific about what Lipkin's sickness was caused by, which I would encourage you to do. But barring one that clearly points either way, the most faithful way forward seems to me to be to continue to mirror the language of the sources. Thanks and take care. —The Editor's Apprentice (talk) 07:01, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- I have not found any online document clarifying this point. I watched the video in the link you provided. At 2:30, Lipkin mentions illness and quarantine after coming back, but he does not specify whether he was infected or not. He then explains that he shared with Matt Damon what it was like to be quarantined, talking to loved ones through glass... but no mention of any actual infection or positive test. So this will remain an open question for me! I agree that the default solution is to just cite the source. TenaciousTanuki (talk) 10:38, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
