Welcome
editHi, and welcome to the Aviation WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to aviation.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box and review alerts are updated frequently. You can watchlist them (announcements/alerts) if you're interested; or, you can add them directly to your user page by including {{WPAVIATION Announcements}} or {{WPAVIATION Review alerts}} there.
- Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has several departments, which handle article quality assessment, detailed article and content review, and project-wide collaboration.
- We have a number of child projects and task forces that focus on specific topics and aircraft types.
- We're developing a variety of guidelines for article structure and content, template use, categorization, and other issues that you may find useful.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the experienced project members, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Trevor MacInnis contribs 14:16, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
DYK nomination of List of Supermarine Spitfire survivors
editHello! Your submission of List of Supermarine Spitfire survivors at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! orangefreak33 17:03, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
- There appears to be objections to the debulleting by other editors for the article, and it has been reverted. There's still lots of time for DYK, so I suggest that you discuss with those editors and come to a consensus. orangefreak33 21:23, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

An exciting opportunity to get involved!
editAs a member of the Aviation WikiProject or one of its subprojects, you may be interested in testing your skills in the Aviation Contest! I created this contest, not to pit editor against editor, but to promote article improvement and project participation and camraderie. Hopefully you will agree with its usefulness. Sign up here, read up on the rules here, and discuss the contest here. The first round of the contest may not start until September 1st-unless a large number of editors signup and are ready to compete immediately! Since this contest is just beginning, please give feedback here, or let me know what you think on my talkpage. - Trevor MacInnis contribs 05:47, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

editArticle History Template
editPlease do not comment out {{ArticleHistory}} if they are on talk pages, it is unacceptable and poor form to try and hide them even if there is a new GAN present. Specifically I am referring to Supermarine Spitfire and your removal on 19 August, of which I have just reverted. Please do not make these type of edits again, they might be considered vandalism and in the future escalating warnings could be issued. -MBK004 01:35, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- Although I've been quite active I've very limited experience of GA nomination and this was the first time I've ever re-nominated. I followed the guidance as closely as I could but it wasn't clear what to do about previous unsuccessful nominations, so I commented them but didn't delete them so they could still be seen. I resent being accused of 'vandalism' - we need to improve the guidance so that it is clearer. Have a nice day Thruxton (talk) 07:21, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
Supermarine Spitfire
editJust to let you know, I've reviewed the article for GA. In case you don't have the subpage watchlisted, you can find it here. Regards, Parsecboy (talk) 14:19, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks I'll get on to it asap Thruxton (talk) 16:05, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Thruxton. Are you still planning on working on this article for GA? You can have as much time as you need, but in the week since the review was done, no one has done much to the article. Regards, Parsecboy (talk) 14:21, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
- Yes got a bit sidetracked by moving the section to List of Supermarine Spitfire survivors but that got 3,500 views on the day is was on DYK so it was time well spent. Thruxton (talk) 10:47, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Amelia Earhart
editThe article Amelia Earhart you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Amelia Earhart for things needed to be addressed. Nikkimaria (talk) 02:01, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
Article Merger
editPlease consider merging your article Scott Trial with the pre-existing Scottish Six Days Trial article.Orsoni (talk) 10:15, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- I appreciate why people could think they are the same but they are entirely different competitions. The 'Scottish' is about 100 miles a day around Lochaber in Scotland over six days and the 'Scott' is named after Alfred Angas Scott and is an 84 mile observation challenge held in Swaledale, one of the Dales in the Yorkshire Dales National Park - not in Scotland. - I approved the nomination. If you're going to write (or review) for DYK, it is useful to install this length checking script. One tip for using it - I apply it to individual versions of the article and then divide manually to see the expansion - the script often fails in auto-mode. Materialscientist (talk) 01:58, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks I've installed the length checking script and it works well Thruxton (talk) 11:21, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

DYK Vincent Black Knight
editI made a minor modification to the article, as it mentioned the Black Prince replaced the Black Shadow. The Series 'D' models included the Black Prince, Black Knight, and Victor, but also included the "open" Black Shadow and Rapide models, updated from the Series 'C' versions. This is my first attempt at Wikipedia entry, so I was not sure how to edit the first Black Knight image. It indicates "Predecessor" as "Vincent Black Shadow", whereas it should be "Vincent Rapide". Also, the "Power" for the Rapide & Black Knight models is 45bhp VincentHRD (talk) 04:59, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
