I am writing regarding an article I have submitted to Wikipedia about the actor Mark Griffin. I noticed that the actor didn't have a Wikipedia page so I decided to try to create one and it has been rejected twice now but this has confused me greatly. Firstly, he already has a page on an Italian version of Wikipedia https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Griffin meaning Wiki must have thought he was notable enough for this. Secondly, another actor of similar fame, Mark Smith http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Smith_(Gladiator) who starred alongside Mark Griffin on the UK TV show Gladiators has a Wikipedia page much like the one I tried to make for Griffin. Finally, I was advised to get a better collection of references for my article, but if one were to look at Mark Smith's article, it shows that only three reference points were made, two of which were from the actor's own website therefore my article is much more comprehensive and yet has been rejected.
I have studied pages on Wikipedia that are similar to the one I am trying to create and I have read many helpful articles about how to create an article and the one I made not only follows these almost to the letter but furthermore, I have added extra reference points that I didn't need to add which add more information than many other articles do. Also the actor in question has been of some fame for twenty-two years so I'm confused as to why the person who reviewed my article said that it didn't prove him to be 'notable' enough for a Wiki page, despite me putting links to his imdb page and many sources of information.
How can I be expected to become an editor of Wiki pages when the good work I am putting in is being ignored and seemingly cast aside with little regard? And frequently I see articles popping up for people who have been 'famous' for what seems like five minutes. I would like someone to explain this to me, ideally one of the article reviewers. WelshWonderWoman (talk) 14:24, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
- Hi WelshWonderWoman, there are quite a few points regarding your query, hopefully I get them all.
- The different language Wikipedias have different notability requirements, and the English Wiki is undoubtedly the most strict with regards to references, reliable sources, etc.
- We have a phrase here called "other stuff exists," which essentially means that just because one bad article exists doesn't mean a second should be created. The article on Mark Smith was created before the AfC process was around, at a time when anyone could write anything about anyone. Poorly written pages are frequently found, tagged, and either improved or deleted. Thus, the AfC process is there to ensure that new pages are high quality substantial articles.
- While there is little doubt that Griffen is a notable individual, reviewers have to start from the base assumption that no one is notable. The article must demonstrate that through proper referencing. The current draft as it stands does not do this - your references are either not independent (the Gladiators company he worked for, his own website, his book) or unreliable (the fansites, IMDb). As Darylgolden mentioned in their comment - if you can find some reputable newspaper/magazine/online stories that talk about Griffin, you'll have no trouble getting the draft approved.
- Hopefully this answers all of your questions. I know the process can be a bit daunting, but at the end of it all you'll have a much better artice. If you want more help, stop by the Teahouse, the IRC channel, or the help desk to ask someone for assistance. Primefac (talk) 14:43, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for taking the time to reply and I think I understand the process better now. I will take the points you made on board. WelshWonderWoman (talk) 06:20, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

editHello, I'm 5 albert square. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Sam Callis, but you didn’t support your changes with a citation to a reliable source, so I removed it. Wikipedia has a strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. 5 albert square (talk) 11:04, 14 March 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, I have undone your edit again. I am sorry but Twitter is not a reliable source. Please read WP:RS, WP:BLP and WP:ELNO. Any questions, please feel free to ask. Thanks.--5 albert square (talk) 21:40, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
- I have been told this before, but at the same time I did hope that as the man said it himself (and he should know when he was born) that it might pass the test this time, but I'm not surprised it didn't. WelshWonderWoman (talk) 22:19, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use File:Mark Griffin on stage in the play Bluebird at the Tabard Theatre, May 2015.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Mark Griffin on stage in the play Bluebird at the Tabard Theatre, May 2015.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Peripitus (Talk) 10:28, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
Reminder
editHave you reverted at least one instance of vandalism yet? Once you have, we can move on to the next lesson. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 16:23, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
- @Missionedit: Thanks for the reminder. I've just started a new job so been super busy and haven't really had time to look at Wiki recently but I will try. Every time I look though I can never find any vandalism that hasn't already been dealt with (surely a good thing I guess). WelshWonderWoman (talk) 22:10, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
- When you have time, look around some more for vandalism to revert, but if you can't find any, we can just skip that part and carry on :) How's the new job going? ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 00:53, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- It's going really well thank you for asking and I will try to look for some to revert soon. WelshWonderWoman (talk) 23:13, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
I noticed you haven't really had the time to revert any vandalism, so we're just going to move on to the next lesson on deletion, if that's fine with you. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 20:28, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Missionedit: I simply couldn't find any and with work and everything recently I didn't have the time to look, but I really am looking for ward to the next lesson and have a bit of time right now so I'm ready whenever you are :) WelshWonderWoman (talk) 23:31, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
Don Megowan
editThank you for your edits on Don Megowan. I didn't create the article, but I created articles for some films he was in. To thank you I posted a new image of Mark Griffin for you. I hope it stays. I get speedy deletions a lot too. Inkwell765 (talk) 23:20, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
I added Dragons of Camelot to main space. I don't see why you were given such a hard time about it. Some of my articles have less references than yours. Inkwell765 (talk) 16:56, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Inkwell765: The WP:Articles for Creation process is much more rigorous than the new pages patrol which approves mainspace articles; the latter doesn't actually expect articles which go through to meet WP:Notability with reliable and independent sources, which is less than ideal. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 17:15, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Inkwell765: Thanks very much for doing that. I agree that some articles I've seen have less links than this one and also I appreciate you adding the poster to the article and the picture to the Mark Griffin one I made. WelshWonderWoman (talk) 22:32, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
- @WelshWonderWoman: I hope the picture stays. If not we'll just try again. Sometimes I think someone is going to get murdered because its easier to post an image of a dead person than a live one! Inkwell765 (talk) 22:42, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
- It does seem crazy because when creating an article all an editor want to do is to put an example of who the person is that the article is about. Thanks for trying though, even if it does get deleted. WelshWonderWoman (talk) 22:49, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

Inactive status
editI've marked you as an inactive adoptee due to the lack of recent activity on your account. Just contact me when you are ready to start up lessons again! Bye for now :) ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 16:06, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
- Hi again, I'm really sorry I've not been on here recently. I got a full time job which has taken up a lot of my time and I haven't been using the computer much lately but I would still like to carry on with the lessons soon if that'd be okay. I find them quite challenging as I know I won't be using most of the Wiki editing features but I'd still like to try. Thanks WelshWonderWoman (talk) 16:35, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
- Sounds great :) I put the dispute resolution lesson up in case you have time to look at it. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 18:01, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Mark Griffin (actor)
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Mark Griffin (actor) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. FiendYT ★ 04:10, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
