Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Dodona

  • Code letter: B, E Evasion of ban, see background of ban here and here. Also revert-warring

Former anon user "Dodona" aka User:PIRRO BURRI, presently User:Burra, was banned for stubborn abuse of talk pages and POV-pushing against consensus on Albanian-Greek-ethnicity related articles, especially Talk:Arvanites, and for extensive block evasion/sockpuppetry. During the last weeks, I have been trying to negotiate a supervised comeback for him and he, as "Burra", has ostensibly been making an effort to be good. At the same time, another new Albanian user has turned up, user:Mavronjoti, again making stubborn unconstructive edits in the same area. Mavronjoti's edits are mirrored by 80.78.74.88 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), who is evidently the same person ([1]). Mavronjoti and 80.78.74.88 together have violated 3RR at least on Markos Botsaris ([2], [3], [4], [5]). At the same time, 80.78.74.88 is from the same IP block as earlier 80.78.74.68 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), a former self-identifying Dodona IP ([6]). This raises the suspicion that Mavronjoti is a bad-hand sock of Burra/Dodona/PIRRO BURRI. Fut.Perf. 10:33, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmed - Also Burra has been using proxies sometimes. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 00:57, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
All socks indefinitely blocked, IPs blocked for a month. Sandstein (talk) 06:49, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Additional request for clarification. Burra is strenously denying the sockpuppetry, and, strangely perhaps, I'm almost inclined to believe him. Given that the 80.78.* block is apparently a large Albanian ISP, having two bona fide separate users on that block would not be inconceivable. Can I ask if the checkuser findings are certain?

In particular, I notice now that Burra's and Mavronjoti's edits don't have much temporal overlap, but there is one sequence where both were editing in alternation several times within a few minutes:

  • 2008-01-23, 11:28 Burra Talk:Arvanites /* Kollias */ [7]
  • 2008-01-23, 11:24 Mavronjoti Kitsos Botsaris [8]
  • 2008-01-23, 11:23 Burra Arvanites /* Famous Arvanites */ [9]
  • 2008-01-23, 11:20 Burra Talk:Arvanites /* Kollias */ [10]
  • 2008-01-23, 11:19 Mavronjoti Markos Botsaris [11]
  • 2008-01-23, 11:03 Burra Arvanites /* Famous Arvanites */ [12]
  • 2008-01-23, 10:56 Burra Talk:Arvanites /* Kollias */ [13]
They weren't exact, but the first three fields were exactly the same, and the fourth fields are very similar. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 00:36, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification. Under these circumstances, I'd personally tend to unblock. The editing patterns, despite similarity in contents, do not match closely enough for a duck test, and I don't see Dodona as the guy who would be fooling around with two separate internet connections at the same time, switching from the one to the other within minutes like this. Fut.Perf. 07:48, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If they are socks, we'd expect that during this sequence they should have been on exactly the same IP, right? Can I ask if this has been checked? Fut.Perf. 10:01, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Additional note: The Mavronjoti account was created several days before it started editing, on 27 Dec, untypical for Dodona socks. The known Dodona incarnation to check the creation log against would be Besa Arvanon (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki).
