From Proto-Indo-European *mlew-. Related to Proto-Germanic *blewwaną (to beat (up), blow), Ancient Greek ἀμβλύς (amblús, blunt; dim, faint), Avestan 𐬨𐬭𐬎𐬙𐬀 (mruta, crushed (?), weak).[1]
