editFrom Latin (nōmen) adiectīvum, from adiectīvus (“adjective”), from adiciō + -īvus (“to attach”). The Latin term is a loan translation of Greek (ὄνομα) ἐπίθετον ((ónoma) epítheton), from ἐπίθετος (epíthetos, “added”). The Danish term tillægsord is a calque of the Latin and Greek words.
