From Proto-Brythonic *korug, from Proto-Celtic *korukos (leather boat) (from which also Irish curach), probably from Proto-Indo-European *(s)koro- (leather) (compare Latin corium, Russian скора́ (skorá), Sanskrit चर्मन् (carman)).
