editUsage notes
edit- Mù, in a few contexts, can be considered an offensive term (as compared to a synonym as khiếm thị (“visually impaired”)). Đui is strictly offensive. Chột (“one-eyed”), câm (“mute”) are all offensive, and alternatives such as điếc (“deaf”) and khiếm thính (“hard-of-hearing”) might be preferable in many situations. This is especially so for Điếc (“Deaf”), because many among the Deaf Vietnamese community are reclaiming the term to accurately describe their subcultural-sociolinguistic identity.
