"Mardi gras" literally means "fat Tuesday"
    1. word-for-word, verbatim

Usage notes

edit

Bokstavlig and the corresponding adverb bokstavligen often imply notability when quoting. When quoting something that might be considered outrageous, as an example, bokstavligen emphasizes that those were actually the exact words. Ordagrant (adverb) can also be used in that case, but is inherently more neutral, and is more common than bokstavligen for word-for-word, verbatim, and the like.
