verdir
French
editEtymology
editFrom Old French verdir (12th c.), possibly inherited from Vulgar Latin *vir(i)dire, an alteration of Classical Latin viridēscere. Compare Italian inverdire, archaic Spanish enverdir (alongside enverdecer), Romanian înverzi. Equivalent to vert + -ir (the -t in vert being due to final devoicing).
Pronunciation

Conjugation
editThis is a regular verb of the second conjugation, like finir, choisir, and most other verbs with infinitives ending in -ir. One salient feature of this conjugation is the repeated appearance of the infix -iss-.
