editOriginally from *vemte (*vem suffixed with te), from the original form in Proto-Albanian *wadmi, from athematic Proto-Indo-European *weh₂dʰ- (perhaps *weh₂dʰ-mi).
Also cognate to English wade (“to walk through water”), Old Armenian գամ (gam, “to come”), Latin vādō (“to go, walk”).[1]
