He plotted revenge against TCRI for rejecting his Mousers plan to exterminate all the rats in the city. Baxter Stockman was seen in a battle-suit plotting to break into a building when the Ninja Turtles attacked him. When Baxter Stockman unknowingly obtained Donatello's T-Pod (which contained a military A.I), he plugged it in as it repaired his battle-suit. Baxter Stockman's battle-suit ends up in an upgraded state during his revenge on TCRI. When the Ninja Turtles find Baxter Stockman, they end up engaging him where the AI in his battle-suit ends up making it difficult for the Ninja Turtles. Baxter Stockman and the T-Pod then end up merging into one robotic being called the Stockmanpod forcing the Ninja Turtles to go on the run. Using wisdom from Splinter about "fighting the person in the armor," the Ninja Turtles were able to stuff a beehive into the Stockmanpod enough for it to fall off the building. The Ninja Turtles deactivate the T-Pod and throw Baxter Stockman in the dumpster.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an American cartoon series in the franchise of the same name, premiered on September 29, 2012 on Nickelodeon. A sneak premiere aired on September 28, 2012.[citation needed] On October 2, 2012, Nickelodeon renewed the series for a second season with 26 episodes.[3]

Plot

When ninjutsu master Hamato Yoshi (Splinter) and his four pet turtles are exposed to mutagen, a chemical from another world, they undergo major physical transformations: Splinter becomes a hybrid human/rat and the turtles become human/turtle hybrids. Splinter retreats to the New York City sewers, where he raises the four turtles as his sons, and imparts to them his knowledge of ninjutsu. After venturing to the surface for the first time, the 15 year-old[citation needed] Turtles discover an alien race is taking over New York City, and they learn Splinter's old enemy, the Shredder, seeks to track down Splinter and his sons, to put an end to their clan.

Heroes

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - A team of anthropomorphic turtles that are the main protagonists of the series.
    • Michelangelo (voiced by Greg Cipes[2]) - "Mikey" (with an orange mask) loves video games, skateboarding, pranks and pizza.[4] He fights with two nunchaku, which convert into a kusarigama.[4]
    • Leonardo (voiced by Jason Biggs[2]) - "Leo" (with a blue mask) is an enthusiastic ninjutsu student learning how to be an effective leader for his three often unruly brothers.[5] He fights with two katana swords called Niten Ryu.[5]
    • Donatello (voiced by Rob Paulsen[2]) - "Donnie" (with a purple mask) is in charge of the design and manufacture of all of the tools and weapons in the Turtles' arsenal, and is also a gifted hacker.[6] He fights with a bō which converts to a naginata.[6] He has a crush on April since the first time he saw her.[6]
    • Raphael (voiced by Sean Astin[2]) - "Raph" (with a red mask) often lets his impulsiveness get in the way of rational thinking.[7] While hot-headed, Raphael has a soft side, as demonstrated by his interactions with his pet turtle, Spike.[citation needed] He fights with two sai.[7]
  • Master Splinter (voiced by Hoon Lee[2]) - Ninjutsu master Splinter was born a human named Hamato Yoshi. When his friend Oroku Saki (Shredder) sought the affections of Splinter's wife Tang Shen, the two men engaged in a battle that ended their friendship, and burned down Splinter's home killing Tang Shen and their daughter Miwa. After moving to New York City, Splinter and his four pet turtles are splashed with a substance called mutagen (or more casually "ooze") where Hamato mutated into a humanoid rat. Realizing he could no longer live a normal life topside, Splinter retreated to the New York sewers where he raised his pets as sons and taught them the ancient Japanese fighting art of ninjutsu.
  • April O'Neil (voiced by Mae Whitman[2]) - The 16 year-old daughter of Dr. Kirby O'Neil. April befriends the Ninja Turtles after the Kraang kidnap her father.

Villains

  • Foot Clan - A ninja organization that is led by Shredder.
    • Shredder / Oroku Saki (voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson[2]) - One of the primary antagonists of the series and leader of the Foot Clan. While once friends with Hamato Yoshi in Japan, Oroku Saki and Splinter fight over the love of Splinter's wife Tang Shen. During their battle, a fire kills Tang Shen and Splinter's infant Miwa. Shredder learns that Splinter is alive and in New York after seeing Hamato Yoshi's family crest on a shuriken left behind by the Turtles.
    • Karai (voiced by Kelly Hu[8]) - Member of the Foot Clan.
    • Dogpound (voiced by Clancy Brown[9]) - Chris Bradford is a famous martial artist who is secretly a member of the Foot Clan. He was sent to New York with Xever in order to find Splinter. In later episodes, Chris will mutate into Dogpound.
    • Fishface (voiced by Christian Lanz[10]) - Xever is a street thug who works for the Foot Clan. He knows his ways around the underworlds of each city. In later episodes, Xever will mutate into Fishface.
    • Foot Ninjas - The basic foot soldiers of the Foot Clan.
  • The Kraang (voiced by Nolan North[11]) - The Kraang are a race of brain-shaped aliens that pilot robotic bodies. They have not mastered English and communicate in redundant speech. It was the Kraang who attacked Splinter while he was holding the not-yet-mutated Turtles causing them to fall into the ooze. They are in many ways similar to the Utroms from the original TMNT comics[12][original research?] and share a homophonous link to the villain Krang from the 1987 cartoon series.

Production

Jason Biggs voices Leonardo and Rob Paulsen, who voiced Raphael in the 1987 series, portrays Donatello.[2] In June 2011, it was confirmed that Sean Astin is playing Raphael and Greg Cipes is Michelangelo.[17] In August 2011, it was revealed that Mae Whitman will be the voice for April O'Neil.[citation needed] In April 2012, it was announced that Phil LaMarr will be playing the role of Baxter Stockman and Nolan North will be playing a race of aliens known as the Kraang.[13][11] Actress Kelly Hu confirmed her role as Karai in May 2012.[8]

Production art was leaked on the Nickelodeon website before it was taken down. The images showed the designs of all four Turtles, Shredder, Splinter, a teenage April O'Neil and The Kraang, an alien race that combines elements of both Krang and the Utroms.[18] A trailer for the series was released on June 21, 2012, on Nickelodeon USA.[19]

Broadcast

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles premiered on Nickelodeon in the United States and on YTV in Canada on September 29, 2012.[20] In the United Kingdom and Ireland, the series premiered on October 1, 2012 on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons.[21] The series also premiered on October 8, 2012 on Nickelodeon Australia & New Zealand.[22]

Reception

IGN gave the first episode a positive review, assessing it a score of 8.5/10.[citation needed]
