Robert Perry "Bob" Golic (born October 26, 1957 in Cleveland, Ohio) is a retired American football player, as well as a television and radio personality. He was a NFL defensive tackle who played for the New England Patriots (1979-1981), Cleveland Browns (1982-1988) and Los Angeles Raiders (1989-1992) in the NFL.

Bob played high school football at St. Joseph's High School in Cleveland, while here he won the Ohio state championship in wrestling. He was drafted by the Patriots out of Notre Dame in the second round (52nd pick overall) of the 1979 NFL Draft. Bob was a 3-time Pro Bowler: 1985, 1986, 1987.

At Notre Dame, Golic was voted first team All-American for the 1977 and 1978 football seasons. For the 1978 season, Golic was selected by a unanimous vote at linebacker. Golic was also a 2 time All-American for Notre Dame as a heavyweight wrestler, capturing 4th place in 1977 and 3rd place in 1978[1], placing ahead of future Olympic gold Medalist Jeff Blatnick. Golic was also a member of the 1977 NCAA National Champion football team.

Golic attended St. Joseph's High (Cleveland, Ohio) and was a letterman in football and wrestling. He won the Ohio High School heavyweight championship in 1975.

Post NFL

After retiring from football Golic pursued an acting career, most notably as Cal U Resident Advisor Mike Rogers on Saved by the Bell: The College Years and the NBC made-for-tv-movie Saved by the Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas in 1994. Golic also hosted sports talk radio programs and did sports reporting for TV stations in Los Angeles; had a stint on Britain's late 80s-90s NFL coverage on Channel 4, opposite presenter Gary Imlach; served as analyst on NBC's NFL coverage from 1994-96; and was a commentator for TNN's coverage of the short-lived XFL in 2001. Bob was nicknamed "Unfunny Bob" on the popular television program Cheap Seats on ESPN Classic.

Golic returned to Northeast Ohio in January 2005 to host the afternoon drive time radio talk show on WNIR 100.1 FM in Akron.[2] He is also a football analyst and a fill-in sports anchor for WOIO Channel 19 in Cleveland.

Golic has also recently opened a restaurant and bar in downtown Cleveland's Warehouse District named "Bob Golic's Sports Bar & Grille." [3]

Personal life

Bob is the older brother of Mike Golic, who is also a former NFL football player, and is also a radio host (ESPN Radio's Mike and Mike in the Morning). His nephews are Mike Golic Jr., who currently plays football for the University of Notre Dame[4], and Jake, who entered Notre Dame in 2009[5]. The Golics are of Slovene descent.[6]

Mike Golic is a spokesperson for NutriSystem after losing more than 50 lbs on the diet; however, Bob has outdone his little brother, dropping more than 140 lbs and returning to his high school weight of 245 lbs.[7]

Golic lives with his family in Solon. He was married to Jacqueline Benlein (1983-1994) (divorced) and had 1 child. He is now married to Karen Baughman (1996-present) and has 2 children.

His wife Karen was a ballerina, and he performed The Nutcracker with her at the Akron Civic Theatre in Akron, Ohio in 2006.[8]
