Channel 7 (Thai: ช่องเจ็ด; RTGS: Chong Chet; literal: Channel 7) is a Thailand national free-to-air terrestrial television station. Channel 7 was officially launched on 27 November 1967 managed by Bangkok Airways, Bangkok Bank, Bangkok Hospital, Bangkok Post and Bangkok University along with PPTV.
Channel 7's headquarters are at Mo Chit, Chatuchak.
Channel 7 currently broadcasts on UHF using digital television network for CH7HD. CH7 is also available over TrueVisions on Channel 35. It broadcasts 24-hours daily.
Since its 1974–75 conversion to colour it has retained its signature identification tune.
History
Channel 7 was formerly known as Bangkok Colour Television (Bangkok Television). It was managed by Bangkok Airways, Bangkok Bank, Bangkok Hospital, Bangkok Post and Bangkok University and broadcasts from Bangkok. This broadcast area was only limited to Bangkok Metropolitan Area only and broadcasts in Bangkok.
The channel targets Thai-speaking viewers; Malaysian English/Singapore English and Singapore Mandarin/Malaysian Chinese imported series are also shown in this channel.
Channel 7's officially opening ceremony on 27 November 1967 at 19:00 Bangkok Time was presided by the then Prime Minister of Thailand Thanom Kittikachorn. It was originally planned for a national expansion and started national television broadcasting on 1 January 1972 then in black and white, converting to colour in 1974.
With the start of digital terrestrial television broadcasting in Thailand, Channel 7 inaugurated its digital HD signal on 25 April 2014 on one of the multiplexes of the Royal Thai Army through Royal Thai Army Radio and Television Channel 5 at channel 35.
On 19 June 2017, Channel 7 announced that the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission had approved their plan for discontinuing their analog transmissions, starting on 1 August 2017 in Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Chumphon, Phangnga, Phattalung, and Songkhla provinces. According to the plan, all analog transmissions of the station discontinued on 16 June 2018.[1][2]
