Lendico is a multinational company, operating a peer-to-peer lending platform. The company was founded in December 2013 [1] by the incubator and venture capitalist, Rocket Internet.[2] After launching in Germany, the company expanded into Spain, Poland, Austria, South Africa and the Netherlands.[3] Using the crowdfunding model, the company based in Berlin, Germany,[4] aims to create a direct link between investors and private borrowers.

History

Lendico was created in December 2013 by Dr. Dominik Steinkühler, Dr. Clemens Paschke, Philipp Petrescu and Dr. Christoph Samwer. Inspired by the business model of the US peer-to-peer lending platform Lending Club [5] and UK based company Zopa,[6] Lendico is a marketplace that enables the link between borrowers and investors. During the first 5 months of 2014, the company established itself in Austria,[7] Spain,[8] Poland and South Africa,[9] replicating the expansion plan usually used by its creator, Rocket Internet.[2]

Business Model

All loans are unsecured personal loans and range between €1,000 - €25,000 in Germany.[10] The interest fee is calculated on the basis of the borrower’s credit score, credit history, desired loan amount and the borrower’s debt-to-income ratio.[11] Lendico determines whether the borrower is creditworthy and assigns to its approved loans a credit grade that determines the payable interest rate and the fees. The loan period can range between 1 and 5 years and be repaid at any time.[11]

Only 10% of applications are received on the platform.[12]
