List of largest companies by revenue

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 210.210.12.141 (talk) at 06:19, 15 January 2008 (Businesses). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

This is a list of the world's largest public and private businesses by turnover. The list is limited to companies with annual revenues exceeding 20 billion U.S. dollars.

Please try to report revenue according to US GAAP. For example: For banks financial institutions, do not net interest expense against interest income, but net transactions for trading companies like the Japanese ones.

Cautionary notes

  1. This list is incomplete.
  2. There are some very large state owned businesses with turnover of over $20 billion, for example state oil companies in OPEC countries, and these are excluded.
  3. The availability and reliability of up to date information on private companies is limited and varies from country to country.
  4. Revenue is only one of many ways of measuring company size and it is not the most appropriate for all purposes. Using a different measure, such as total assets or market capitalisation, would produce a fundamentally different list.
  5. Many major companies, especially outside the USA, do not have a 31 December year end, so the figures are for years to a variety of dates.
  6. This list is shown in U.S. dollars, but many of the companies on it prepare their accounts in other currencies. The value of their turnover in dollar terms may change substantially in a short period of time due to exchange rate fluctuations. Depending on the purpose, a comparison by purchasing power parity could be better.
  7. Figures are either latest full year results or annualised to the most recent quarter; the year these results were reported in is shown beside them.
  8. Some such entities are subsidies of larger state run enterprises
