Opus One (or Magnum Opus) is a rapper from Pembrokshire, West Wales. He started rapping at an early age and went on to form one of Wales’ first Hip Hop crews, Ruff Intalect. Their few releases did the rounds and are well known on the underground circuit, especially in Wales and the South West.
He moved to London in the late 90s where he joined forces with rapper/singer Dom Juan, DJ Dyligent and producer Mr Ronz to form Arkane, who made 2 albums – Civility (2003) and Handstylez (2004), both released on Homespun Records.
Opus and Mr Ronz remixed the Arkane track Supo Mungam for use as the title track of this year’s controversial film Kidulthood. This was released as a single on 357 Records in May 2006. The duo also produced the Spring/Summer Boxfresh Mix CD. Recently, new material heard at a handful of London dates has caused speculation over a possible new release.
Trivia
Opus One and the actor Ben McKay (Pierrepoint, Wilderness) are one and the same person!
