Promising draft

FYI, I created this page as a record of my {{Promising draft}} tags that were sent to MFD and the results. I only searched for MFDs that contained the words "promising" and "draft" so it's possible that some are omitted. I don't think this track record counts as "abuse". Calliopejen1 (talk) 19:18, 11 June 2018 (UTC)

Thanks I'll take a look. If it is an opinion tag that is one thing. If it is a restrictive tag as you keep proposing, I would expect a lot more careful use than I've seen. Even a few deleted "promising drafts" at MfD would be problematic. We would not expect to find many pages already in mainspace as well. You want it to be much stronger than a CSD tag and I've seen editing restricted for even a small amount of bad CSD tagging. Legacypac (talk) 19:24, 11 June 2018 (UTC)

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
Thank You for your review Map Collector (talk) 11:35, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

Hey there, you reviewed Draft:2018 Science Olympiad National Tournament and declined it as "subject of this article already exists", then linked to a different page. Specifically, the draft is for the 2018 tournament, and the article which already exists is the general article for the tournament as a whole. Additionally, articles for previous years also exist, so to decline for that specific reasoning feels incorrect. Would you mind taking another look at it? Cheers! stwalkerster (talk) 15:59, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

Yes I'm aware the title is a redirect. The parent page covers this topic already. If you want to do a WP:SPINOUT you can simply change the redirect into an article by overwriting and reduce the text in the parent page accordingly. You don't need AfC approval - that is normal editing. Legacypac (talk) 16:06, 12 June 2018 (UTC)
Sorry, I'm not sure to which redirect you are referring? I'm aware I don't need AfC approval, I'm specifically asking you to take another look after the author came onto IRC very confused by your decline. stwalkerster (talk) 16:37, 12 June 2018 (UTC)
I conflated several similar situations. I've accepted the page. Legacypac (talk) 16:43, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

A Dying Machine

Hi Legacypac, I've just declined another of your speedy-delete requests, for the same reason as before (previous discussion). Should you not wait until the drafts have been accepted? SarahSV (talk) 03:25, 13 June 2018 (UTC)

User:SlimVirgin perhaps you misunderstand how AfC works. Accepting a draft involves Moving it to mainspace. There is no Accept without a Move. I can't move/accept it while the title is occupied by a redirect. I said on the draft I'm willing to accept this once the redirect is deleted. That is all I can do until an Admin accepts the speedy. Refusing the speedy because I have not accepted the page is backward. In mainspace this will be exposed to more editors - the worst thing that can happen to the page is someone decides to redirect the album page back to the band and no one objects, at which point the current page will at least be in the history. No one is going to successfully AfD it. Legacypac (talk) 03:58, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
It was declined on 10 June and another editor said, as of today, that it's still a problem. Have you fixed the issues? SarahSV (talk) 04:24, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I've hopefully broken this loggerjam. The infobox isn't fully sourced, but that's minor enough I'm willing to fix it after doing the move. power~enwiki (π, ν) 04:30, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
There have been a number of edits by various editors since I requested the redirect be deleted. As an AfC reviewer I am NOT responsible to fix perceived issues, I approve pages that are unlikely to be deleted at AfD. I can't be responsible for what others do after I say I am prepared to accept the page, but I can point out that an Admin rejected a valid CSD for an invalid reason - claiming the page was not "approved" when it can't be approved until the redirect is deleted. Chicken/egg etc. In mainspace the page will get more attention from interested editors.Legacypac (talk) 04:58, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
Okay, fair enough. I see it's been moved now, so it's a moot point. I apologize for slowing things down. SarahSV (talk) 05:20, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
Resolved

Request on 13:13:44, 13 June 2018 for assistance on AfC submission by Gbabeux

Hi Legacypac, I have seen your comments on the draft I submitted for review. You said that the article was written like an advertisement and that it was lacking encyclopedic tone. Would it be possible for you to point me some examples or paragraphs that lacks encyclopedic tone ? The article has around 1500 words so it is kind of hard to figure where the "errors" are ... If you could highlight the places where the tone isn't correct or put some marker that would actually help me a lot. Thank you. I also wanted to mention that the previous article was deleted for "advertising" because I had not declared properly my COI not because the content was considered as advertisement. In fact, all the articles I published at that time were removed for "advertisement" for that reason. Concerning the references : I did my best with what I could find (the 123 links below the draft). Could you point me which references are not correct ? I do understand that some of them are not really reliable but I don't think I could find more sources or references. If none or almost none of them are reliable as you might say, then I have no references for the article and then you or some other reviewer will certainly say that I am missing references... This is a bit frustrating. I hope you can help me improve the draft the proper way by indicating me precisely what needs to be change and how it can be done. Thank you in advance !

Gbabeux (talk) 13:13, 13 June 2018 (UTC)

Page is obviously written by someone with a close connection to the subject. For example the first paragraph after the introduction has zero sources and is full of personal info only the subject or someone close to them would know. Reread my comment on the draft. Could an admin watching action this G7 request? Legacypac (talk) 15:11, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
Done. Primefac (talk) 15:17, 13 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi, not a very cool comment especially the title on the above talk page. Pretty close to a personal attack I think. You may not have read this [1]. There is no question that this company is not notable but the article creator has created 500 articles in the last 6 months sometimes up to 20 articles a day without adding the neccessary sources that are required by normal editing guidelines and has left it up to other editors to do the sourcing for him. It was decided that the articles that were not suitable should be moved back into draft space to be improved before going back to mainspace. When the article was moved [2] the sourcing was unbelievably poor. This is the kind of work that one would expect from a novice editor but not one who has particpated in nearly 1000 AFD discussions on top of the article editing. When it is just one or 2 articles that slip through but around 25% of his articles were so poorly sourced they were creating a mass of work for the new pages reviewers, those participating in the AFDs that this generated and the closing admins. I would ask you to consider reverting your edit or at least change the title. Dom from Paris (talk) 13:05, 13 June 2018 (UTC)

I've changed the title, but the point stands that a NYSE listed company of iconic brands is notable and draftifying it was a bad move. There are thousands of editors in mainspace willing to expand good pages on notable topics. We don't draftify notable topic. Even in this state [3] anyone should be able to tell a company founded in 1889 that is NYSE listed with those brands is notable, even with just two sources. Legacypac (talk) 15:04, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
For what it's worth, we had a similar problem with SvG's mass-creation of severely-sub-par articles - everything got chucked to the draft space for further review, even the good stuff. This allowed the not-good stuff to eventually be binned while the good stuff could be reviewed and "accepted" back to main space. Personally I'd rather see a good article temporarily be draftified than have hundreds of bad ones sticking around in the article space. Primefac (talk) 15:19, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
User:Domdeparis regardless of the author's issues, if I find another such really bad draftification by you at AfC I may take you to ANi and propose a CIR move ban against you. You have no right to come to my page to complain about the consequences of your obvious mistake. Kindly check over your other draftifcations and fix any other lapses in judgement before I find them dealing with AfC submissions in the normal course. There is no mass draftification and an editor making such a move needs to exercise good judgement. Legacypac (talk) 15:28, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
I would have expected that an editor that I recently defended more than once would have had the courtesy of talking to me first to understand my POV. What a shame. Dom from Paris (talk) 16:45, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
It's nothing personal and I'm sorry it came across as personal. I handle many drafts and I base my decisions on the merit of the topic not on the involved authors. Let's just agree to both be more careful and move on happily ok User:Domdeparis. Legacypac (talk) 19:02, 13 June 2018 (UTC)

Suggestions?

Hey there Legacypac, the article i am writing about kings, Kings are special because they are mearly a residential college attached to the University Of Queensland, Yet despite this, due to the exceptional work of David Jackman they have dominated the shorted form of Rugby union being rugby 7's & 10's The average age of the boys at the GFI 10's a professional invitational tournament in Hong Kong was only 21. The other teams there are made up of current and past international players all paid to be there. Harry Mcnulty mentioned in the article now plays for Ireland sevens, Scott Gale played for the reds and also in japan, Jack Cornelsen also plays in japan now, all the result of their performance at Kings. Past Kingsmen include Wallabies and super rugby players. Should i find references to these players and the results at the 10's tournament to legitimize this submission. Regards Dusty

You should search for Wikiproject Rugby where you are likely to get much more focused advice Legacypac (talk) 06:38, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

Contested deletion of Skycoin article

Hi Legacypac, I wish to contest the deletion of the Skycoin page as per reasoning below.

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because...

1. It includes criticism of the Skycoin project, with links to external articles that also criticise the project.

2. It is written in a neutral tone, with verifiable and referenced facts only, with no opinions.

3. It includes links to reliable sources like Reuters, Nasdaq, CNBC, Bloomberg, Forbes and the United Nations.

4. It is written in a similar manner to most of the other Wikipedia cryptocurrency pages listed here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cryptocurrencies

Wikipedia has articles on approximately 40 cryptocurrency projects. I don't see how the proposed Skycoin page is any more 'promotional' than the examples below...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MazaCoin

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titcoin

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vertcoin

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PotCoin

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verge_(cryptocurrency)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auroracoin

In fact I would say most of those pages are much more promotional than the proposed Skycoin page.

If you could please be more specific about which sections you believe are 'unambiguously promotional' compared to other Wikipedia cryptocurrency pages, then I will be happy to modify those sections to be more consistent with Wikipedia's other cryptocurrency articles.

Cheers,

PD.

This is an area under special rules called discretionary sanctions. I'll let an Admin address the page. Legacypac (talk) 06:34, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi Legacypac, I didn't quite understand your response. Are you saying you let another admin address the page, or are you telling me I need to contact another admin? Cheers, PD.

I'm not an Admin yet. Many Admins watch my page. Perhaps one of them can provide guidence on Draft:Skycoin which has twice been deleted as Spam in recent weeks. I tagged it for deletion and an Admin deleted it so I can't see it now. Legacypac 06:40, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi Legacypac, since you tagged it for deletion, would you be able to explain your rationale as per my request above. The page I drafted is no more promotional that any other Cryptocurrency page on Wikipedia. Also, the fact that you accused me of being a 'crypto spammer' suggests you may not actually have read the page in any detail, but simply tagged it for deletion because it was related to a cryptocurrecy project'? Also, I did not create any other page in recent weeks as you suggest. It looks like there was another Skycoin page deleted four months ago, that somebody else created. Cheers, PD.

The whole page was a long ad for this crypto currency laying out its features and advantages. Yes I read it as I read all pages I handle. As I said, I'm not able to undeletd it. You need to take that up with an admin. Legacypac (talk) 07:46, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

Every single cryptocurrency page on Wikipedia is a long article laying out its features and advantages. Are they all ads? Cheers, PD. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Peak Debt (talkcontribs) 08:41, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

The existence of other substandard pages does not help your case. This area is overrun with promotion and hype. Many consider it all a fraud. Thanks for the list of pages to consider deleting though. Legacypac (talk) 08:44, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

Slow Flowers

Hi, I am aware the Draft:Slow Flowers draft page has been deleted because it is thought that it read like an advertisement. There was a lot of reading/research conducted on the background behind the flower industry and how the movement started and sourced different articles about the slow flower movement (there are very few since it appears the movement is new) to support this work. I would really like to continue editing it so it meets Wikipedia standards. There are pages that exist for other slow movements, and I think it is important to have one on Slow Flowers. If you would be able to send the original work, I would be happy to update it and redo it until it meets Wikipedia standards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Townnm (talkcontribs) 13:01, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

An admin will need to do this. Quite a few watch this page Legacypac (talk) 15:33, 16 June 2018 (UTC)
You correctly point out the newness and lack of good sources. Wikipedia covers subjects that are already notable with third party sources, not new things that are trying to become notable. The page was more trying to publicize this idea not record what is already a thing. Legacypac (talk) 20:40, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

I just review pages I think will survive in article space. I can't guarentee what other editors think. You are an editor in good standing. You could undo the redirect edit, and if you do, I'd suggest posting on the talkpage why the subject meets WP:NMUSIC Legacypac (talk) 00:47, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

North American Jewish Culture (Najclib)

Hi Legacypac,

I am perplexed about the reason for your deletion of the submission "North American Jewish Culture." The reason given, unambiguous promotion, seemed at odds with our purpose in submitting the article. NAJC is a non-profit organization whose purpose is exclusively educational. Nobody makes any money from it. The goal of the article was to be informative: to raise awareness about the existence of the organization and its purpose. Since this is a new organization, an essential part of the informative content is explaining how NAJC differs from other similar organizations, so that people don't think it is simply duplicative of other organizations. We have also seen other Wikipedia pages about organizations that are similar to the page we submitted. We really are flummoxed. If you could offer some guidance about how we can change the page to conform to your requirements, we would very much appreciate it.

Thank you for your help!

--North American Jewish Culture 16:27, 18 June 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Najclib (talkcontribs)

First, Wikipedoa is not a platform to promote your non-profit. You should not be writing about your organization because it is very hard to write WP:NPOV. §Second, non-profits do engage in promotion, even if no one makes money. Third, since your organization is new it is unlikely to be WP:Notable under WP:NCORP. It appears you don't understand how Wikipedia works or it's purpose. We cover topics that have already been covered by WP:RS reliable sources, in depth, and only after the topic is notable enough you might find it in an encyclopedia. Need neutral opinion: Awards for James Patrick Cronin

Hi Legacypac! This is in regards to the James Patrick Cronin page that I needed a neutral review on.

You had mentioned that James should be an award winner (rather than multiple nominee) before he reached the right level of notoriety.

Although he's been nominated for 3 Audies (the Oscars of audiobooks), he has won an Earphones award (kind of the Daytime Emmy's of audiobooks. :) ).

Here is the piece that he won for.

Here's the Wikipedia page that covers AudioFile magazine and the award judging criteria.

I've made the changes, but I'll wait to hear back from you before making any re-submission. Cheers! Billricardi (talk) 22:59, 17 June 2018 (UTC)

I'm transfering this to the Draft talkpage for the next reviewer. I prefer anozhee reviewer to take a look on cases that are not so clearcut. Legacypac (talk) 00:49, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

Hello'Legacypac', could you please be specific? What is missing, which sources must be supplemented with footnotes? The article fulfils all de.wikipedia standards in its german translations, why not in English?

Stepanphoto (talk) 18:58, 19 June 2018 (UTC)

German Wikipedia has different rules. Simply you need to put the references after the info they support. Roughly every two or three sentences or every key fact. You can reuse the same refs in different sections. This policy applies to WP:BLP's. Legacypac (talk) 20:55, 19 June 2018 (UTC)

Good close. Thanks.

If I seem curt, it's because probably the most reasonable part of your closing statement was that I had posted too much for my own good, and now that I know longer have the nagging voice in my head telling me I need to respond because if I don't defend myself there's still an ANI thread open that could go the wrong way if I don't steer it right I don't see any need to nitpick. :P I really should work on it, but I'd actually rather not get "good" at ANI; simply being the kind of editor who doesn't need to be good at ANI would probably be a better solution. Anyway, thank you for the close, and hopefully that will be the end of the matter. Hijiri 88 (やや) 12:54, 20 June 2018 (UTC)

International Day of Forest and World Wood Day

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:World_Wood_Day I submitted an article in June 2018 on World Wood Day and you suggested combining it with the International Day of Forests. If you would look at the references, you can see that the objectives of World Wood Day and the International Day of Forest have significantly different objectives. World Wood Day celebrates the us of wood in different cultres. There is no connection between the two organizations although they do celebrate their festivities on March 21st.

International Day of Forests. March 21 is the United Nations’ (UN) International Day of Forests, which promotes the importance of forests and trees in our lives. The day addresses issues such as deforestation.

World Wood Day demonstrating roles and importance of wood and non-timber forest products in supporting our daily living and connecting representatives of wood-related professionals from all around the world. Emphasis is placed on the cultural value of wood.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for helping Wikipedia and me out.

Hi! I would like some help about a page I tried to create but was refused because “This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia.” The page was about the company Butlers in the Buff. I tried to write it as neutral as possible. My friend booked a butler for her hen and I found the concept very funny I wanted to learn more about it. I saw that the company was the first to enter the market with this concept and I thought I would write a Wikipedia page about them as there were none when I did my research. I tried to find as many press cutting (physical or on internet) as possible talking about this company. I really tried to make it as neutral as possible with a lot of sources so it can be reliable and not look like an advertisement. Can you tell me exactly what I should change in it? How could I make it more neutral? I took in example pages like Coca-Cola, Uber, Deliveroo, and Unilever… and I don’t understand in what my page look like an advertisement when I compare it to them. I would love to be part of the Wikipedia community so please help me to improve my writing. Thank you very much!

Hi, you rejected my article on the British band coldharbourstores. I based my article on a similar size British group, whose notability is also similar: Epic 45 - who do have a wikipedia page, which if anything has less notability. The sources for that band are almost identical. Why are the author for the Epic 45 page's sources and notability acceptable and mine for coldharbourstores are not? Any guidance would be appreciated. Not a normal submission. I did check that page on earwig as I check all AfC pages. It then rotted there until another user reviewing G13 eligible pages edited it to save it from deletion. I spotted it as a blue link in a sea of red on the Stale Draft report and returned it to mainspace for wider review by knowledgable editors on a technical topic. Kindly don't criticise me for not catching something you missed 6 months earlier. Any Admin can verify the page history. Cheers Legacypac (talk) 15:45, 27 June 2018 (UTC)

QUESTION re: Julie Carlson

Hello,

You deleted my page for Julie Carlson, noting that you didn't think the citations showed notability. However, there are several full-length profiles of Ms. Carlson cited throughout the page. Could you please let me know how I can improve the page to show you the notability, and re-submit?

Thanks so much for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rosied28 (talkcontribs) 01:04, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

Just as a note, Rosied28, your draft page at Draft:Julie Carlson has not been deleted, just declined. Primefac (talk) 01:24, 9 July 2018 (UTC) (talk page stalker)

Going to Wikimania?

Hi Legacypac -- I just wanted to check in because I'm headed to Wikimania in a few days, and I'm hoping to meet some AfC reviewers. I'm wondering if you'll be there. Let me know! -- MMiller (WMF) (talk) 21:52, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

No, but thanks for asking. Legacypac (talk) 12:00, 13 July 2018 (UTC)

question

Hey Legacypac - I was reviewing Draft:Eater.com which you had last looked at. I agree with your comments then that it would be better incorporated into the Vox Media article. Since then, however, the draft has been expanded and I'm now of the sense that it might be so long as to be undue for inclusion in the Vox article. I was going to promote it to mainspace but wanted to check with you first to get your sense/opinion. Do you have any thoughts? Thanks - Chetsford (talk) 19:30, 12 July 2018 (UTC)

The worst that could happen is someone merges it. Legacypac (talk) 12:00, 13 July 2018 (UTC)
Sounds good - just wanted to touch bases with you before I did anything. Thanks! Chetsford (talk) 13:44, 13 July 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.12 30 July 2018

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months. (Purge)

Hello Legacypac, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

June backlog drive

Overall the June backlog drive was a success, reducing the last 3,000 or so to below 500. However, as expected, 90% of the patrolling was done by less than 10% of reviewers.
Since the drive closed, the backlog has begun to rise sharply again and is back up to nearly 1,400 already. Please help reduce this total and keep it from raising further by reviewing some articles each day.

New technology, new rules
  • New features are shortly going to be added to the Special:NewPagesFeed which include a list of drafts for review, OTRS flags for COPYVIO, and more granular filter preferences. More details can be found at this page.
  • Probationary permissions: Now that PERM has been configured to allow expiry dates to all minor user rights, new NPR flag holders may sometimes be limited in the first instance to 6 months during which their work will be assessed for both quality and quantity of their reviews. This will allow admins to accord the right in borderline cases rather than make a flat out rejection.
  • Current reviewers who have had the flag for longer than 6 months but have not used the permissions since they were granted will have the flag removed, but may still request to have it granted again in the future, subject to the same probationary period, if they wish to become an active reviewer.
Editathons
  • Editathons will continue through August. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.
The Signpost
  • The next issue of the monthly magazine will be out soon. The newspaper is an excellent way to stay up to date with news and new developments between our newsletters. If you have special messages to be published, or if you would like to submit an article (one about NPR perhaps?), don't hesitate to contact the editorial team here.

Hi Legacypac -- I just want you to re-check the above mentioned article along with its references. The last submission was declined for notability and I think she is a well notable activist. Three of the references put her name in the headline. If you put her name in a google search, tens of results will show her news, TED talk and her Arabic Wikipedia article page. --Mohammed.Almussaabi (talk) 18:54, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

Hello! The page that I created for author Vijay Lakshmann was deleted a few weeks ago because it was considered an advertisement and not third party research. I have been trying to get it back but I haven't had any luck. The intention was not to promote the author but to write an unbiased page about hi m and his work that I enjoy. I have several sources as well to back up the information present in the article. I am new to wikipedia so I am still learning the rules and regulations as a content creator. Any insights you can give to help me get my page back will be much appreciated! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ashleyray121 (talkcontribs) 2 August 2018 18:37 (UTC)

Nomination of List of Polish supercentenarians for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article List of Polish supercentenarians is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Polish supercentenarians until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article.

You nominated this article for deletion the first time and have yet comment in the current AFD discussion, so I wanted to make sure you knew about it as a courtesy. Newshunter12 (talk) 01:34, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

Draft:Fritz Winkelstroeter

Dear Legacypac, thank you for reviewing the draft:Fritz Winkelstroeter. I will work on it. But I have a question: Originally I had made the draft under the title draft:Medhananda. Then somebody of Wikipedia changed it into draft:Fritz Winkelstroeter. But this person is known throughout the world under his spiritual name Medhananda, a disciple of Sri Aurobindo; he was a professor at the International Centre of Education at Pondicherry and a writer who has written several books about the old Egyptian psychology and many other books. His civil name Fritz Winkelstroeter is not known very much to the public, so my question is: will somebody who looks for "Medhananda" in Wikipedia find the article in Wikipedia when it is there only under Fritz Winkelstroeter? Or is it a fact that in Wikipedia spiritual names are not allowed? Thank you for your answer, GoldenerBall GoldenerBall (talk) 16:55, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

Testing changes to New Pages Feed

Hi Legacypac -- I wanted to get in touch directly to ask if you could take some time to try out the evolving New Pages Feed in the Test Wiki. AfC drafts are listed there now, with more changes coming in the next weeks. We're deploying our changes to Test Wiki first so that reviewers can bring up any issues before they go into English Wikipedia. We really value your opinion, of course. -- MMiller (WMF) (talk) 16:56, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

A request for guidance

Hi User:Legacypac, It's been a while I'm trying to fix my first ever article on WP that is declined by you, Draft:JoopeA. It's a bit embarrassing for me that I could publish two new articles in En, one in NL and one in FA which got accepted on the first try, but Draft:JoopeA might be still missing the required elements. I never thought the conflict of interest could be so deep in me.

Anyway, I wonder if you could take a look on the revised article and advise me on how I could improve it? This would be great help to my progress even if the feedback is not good :)

Thank you in advance, Raham 08:20, 2 September 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by RahamRaf (talkcontribs)

I've cleaned out some of the advertising verbiage for Draft:Senait Fisseha and redid the reference sources. If the author is able to find another GNG source, would that be good enough to pass the article? Or do you still have concerns for notability? I don't see her meeting WP:NACADEMIC straight up, but her association with the WHO president is helpful as well as her position within the Buffett Foundation. Request on 10:46:40, 20 July 2018 for assistance on AfC submission by ZEQFS

Hi there. Can I get a bit of help on my first page creation? You've rejected my work saying that the content already exists. The problem is that the content exists in the wrong place (and there are several problems with that if you read the Jesse Brown page or its talk page). Aside from the very un-NPOV writing there, which I have attempted to fix, the Jesse Brown page is about the journalist who broke the Jian Gomeshi story and people in that page's talk section are complaining that Canadaland links to Jesse Brown when Canadaland and Jesse Brown are different things. Canadaland is also one of the top podcasts in the country. It would be like if This American Life redirected to a very badly written section in Ira Glass's page. That would rightly be a problem so that's what I'm trying to resolve here.

Jesse Brown =/= Canadaland and Canadaland =/= Jesse Brown. My intention was to do my best to fix the Canadaland content, get that page created, stop the Canadaland -> Jesse brown redirection and then link the Canadaland section in Jesse Brown's article to the Canadaland article I wrote.

What can I do to move forward with this? Can you help me?

ZEQFS (talk) 10:46, 20 July 2018 (UTC)

Go to Canadaland and write the article. Just replace the redirect with your new content. Legacypac (talk) 00:01, 21 July 2018 (UTC)
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Thanks! I really appreciate your help. ZEQFS (talk) 10:49, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.13 18 September 2018

Hello Legacypac, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

The New Page Feed currently has 2700 unreviewed articles, up from just 500 at the start of July. For a while we were falling behind by an average of about 40 articles per day, but we have stabilised more recently. Please review some articles from the back of the queue if you can (Sort by: 'Oldest' at Special:NewPagesFeed), as we are very close to having articles older than one month.

Project news
As part of this project, the feed will have some larger updates to functionality next month. Specifically, ORES predictions will be built in, which will automatically flag articles for potential issues such as vandalism or spam. Copyright violation detection will also be added to the new page feed. See the projects's talk page for more info.
Other
Moving to Draft and Page Mover
  • Some unsuitable new articles can be best reviewed by moving them to the draft space, but reviewers need to do this carefully and sparingly. It is most useful for topics that look like they might have promise, but where the article as written would be unlikely to survive AfD. If the article can be easily fixed, or if the only issue is a lack of sourcing that is easily accessible, tagging or adding sources yourself is preferable. If sources do not appear to be available and the topic does not appear to be notable, tagging for deletion is preferable (PROD/AfD/CSD as appropriate). See additional guidance at WP:DRAFTIFY.
  • If the user moves the draft back to mainspace, or recreates it in mainspace, please do not re-draftify the article (although swapping it to maintain the page history may be advisable in the case of copy-paste moves). AfC is optional except for editors with a clear conflict of interest.
  • Articles that have been created in contravention of our paid-editing-requirements or written from a blatant NPOV perspective, or by authors with a clear COI might also be draftified at discretion.
  • The best tool for draftification is User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js(info). Kindly adapt the text in the dialogue-pop-up as necessary (the default can also be changed like this). Note that if you do not have the Page Mover userright, the redirect from main will be automatically tagged as CSD R2, but in some cases it might be better to make this a redirect to a different page instead.
  • The Page Mover userright can be useful for New Page Reviewers; occasionally page swapping is needed during NPR activities, and it helps avoid excessive R2 nominations which must be processed by admins. Note that the Page Mover userright has higher requirements than the NPR userright, and is generally given to users active at Requested Moves. Only reviewers who are very experienced and are also very active reviewers are likely to be granted it solely for NPP activities.
List of other useful scripts for New Page Reviewing

  • Twinkle provides a lot of the same functionality as the page curation tools, and some reviewers prefer to use the Twinkle tools for some/all tasks. It can be activated simply in the gadgets section of 'preferences'. There are also a lot of options available at the Twinkle preferences panel after you install the gadget.
  • In terms of other gadgets for NPR, HotCat is worth turning on. It allows you to easily add, remove, and change categories on a page, with name suggestions.
  • MoreMenu also adds a bunch of very useful links for diagnosing and fixing page issues.
  • User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js(info): Installing scripts doesn't have to be complicated. Go to your common.js and copy importScript( 'User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js' ); into an empty line, now you can install all other scripts with the click of a button from the script page! (Note you need to be at the ".js" page for the script for the install button to appear, not the information page)
  • User:TheJosh/Scripts/NewPagePatrol.js(info): Creates a scrolling new pages list at the left side of the page. You can change the number of pages shown by adding the following to the next line on your common.js page (immediately after the line importing this script): npp_num_pages=20; (Recommended 20, but you can use any number from 1 to 50).
  • User:Primefac/revdel.js(info): Is requesting revdel complicated and time consuming? This script helps simplify the process. Just have the Copyvio source URL and go to the history page and collect your diff IDs and you can drop them into the script Popups and it will create a revdel request for you.
  • User:Lourdes/PageCuration.js(info): Creates a "Page Curation" link to Special:NewPagesFeed up near your sandbox link.
  • User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/deletionFinder.js: Creates links next to the title of each page which show up if it has been previously deleted or nominated for deletion.
  • User:Evad37/rater.js(info): A fantastic tool for adding WikiProject templates to article talk pages. If you add: rater_autostartNamespaces = 0; to the next line on your common.js, the prompt will pop up automatically if a page has no Wikiproject templates on the talk page (note: this can be a bit annoying if you review redirects or dab pages commonly).

Go here to remove your name if you wish to opt-out of future mailings. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 23:11, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Legacypac, I submitted a revised version of the page with updated references from a number of reputable sources. I was told there might be a two month delay or so, but it's been longer than that at this point and was wondering if we could move ahead with the review process soon. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jukely (talkcontribs) 17:35, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

Just a note

The draft versions of creation-protected pages (such as Draft:George McConnell Davison) to not need a judgement call from an administrator. If any AFC reviewer feels the page is acceptable, they can ask that the protection be lowered so that it can be accepted. Primefac (talk) 15:41, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

So in fact an Admin must make a judgement call, just from another angle. Legacypac (talk) 02:37, 4 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi Legacypac -- You approved an article I wrote after it had been rejected many times for the band not being notable. There are citations that prove the band has charted in the UK charts and has received radio rotation by the BBC. I have just received a notice that an editor feels the following 'Cannot see how this passes WP:NMUSICIAN or WP:GNG. Promotional article created by a WP:SPA with a likely COI'. I really don't know what more I can do to prove that the band is notable. I'd love some advice, if possible? -- Danielle2017! 18:04, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

My approval was based on meeting the criteria. Sometimes other editors don't care. Legacypac (talk) 02:39, 4 October 2018 (UTC)

Dumb Twinkle

Next time, just leave the message there. If you delete it, I have to chase the history to see what happened, because you can't delete the email and you can't delete the red alert, only the talk page message. Bandesha

Hi, I have put Bandesha up for deletion. It was only recently deleted and the new version appears to be basically a copy of the notoriously unreliable open wiki at jatland.com. I left a note on the talk page. You may wish to have a word with the creator since you approved the move from AfC. Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 09:21, 8 October 2018 (UTC)

I searched for dups and it looks referenced to two good sources. Don't know the history of the page. Legacypac (talk) 09:55, 8 October 2018 (UTC)
It was a straight copy from jatland.com. No idea why the search didn't pick it up. British Raj era sources are not reliable for caste etc. It's gone now. - Sitush (talk) 10:42, 8 October 2018 (UTC)
Of course not as to caste. The British were trying to establish any seemingly scientific basis for colonial rule of India, in addition to the actual reasons, which were of course power and money. Robert McClenon (talk) 11:55, 8 October 2018 (UTC)
Yep, It is a long-established consensus which I obtained around 10 years ago. I really do need to spend some time developing User:Sitush/CasteSources because that could act as a convenient central point of reference. - Sitush (talk) 11:58, 8 October 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion contested: Easy Transfer

Hello Legacypac. I just wanted to let you know that I contested the speedy deletion of Easy Transfer, a page you tagged for speedy deletion for the following concern: Unambiguous advertising or promotion. I believe that while the article talks about the company, it is not intentionally promoting the company's services. All statements are from cited sources and media. If you think there is anything promotional, feel free to make edits instead of marking a deletion on a research article that I spent a lot of time editing. Thank you. --Peon ruler (talk) 20:49, 8 October 2018 (UTC)

You will need to take it up with the admin who deleted it User:DGG Legacypac (talk) 21:01, 8 October 2018 (UTC)

Thanks, very confused why there would be a contest function if the admin would just delete the article straight away without responding. :( --Peon ruler (talk) 02:54, 9 October 2018 (UTC)

If you contest before deletion they will consider. If after, they may restore. I don't think the page has much hope, which is why I tagged it for deletion. Legacypac (talk) 03:30, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
