ylang2

Thanks, and thanks for the use of your template!Ylangylang 19:40, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not that the songs aren't encyclopedic, but posting the lyrics are. You can discuss the song like what I did with De La Salle University-Manila's, but unfortunately we can't save lyrics since it's covered by copyright, I think. --Mithril Cloud 23:53, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mithril is correct on this one. We cannot paste entire lyrics of songs unless we know they are out of copyright. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 23:59, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, even vision/missions are also considered unencyclopedic. --Mithril Cloud 04:27, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Native name fields

By the way, I took out the acronyms from the native name fields for obvious reasons. The native name field is used for the local name of the school in Filipino or in the native language of the area. --Mithril Cloud 00:05, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

But that's how that template field is used. I'm just conforming to established standards. However in that case, you might opt to use this instead:
The Holy Spirit School of Tagbilaran (HSS, or simply Holy Spirit) is a private, Catholic, secondary, co-educational institution in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines. It is run by the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit, also known as the SSpS congregation or Holy Spirit Sisters. It has preparatory, elementary and high school departments. The high school department was originally exclusive for girls, but has been changed to co-ed since 2001.

Re: Just in case

You wrote: Hello! In case you come across this essay, or know how to access it, please please let me know: "Critiquing Filipino modes of thinking" by Jaime Polo. Thank you. --Pinay (talk•email) 17:16, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi Pinay06. Never heard of any Jaime Polo's writings. Haven't seen any book at the National Bookstore with the above title either.

Perhaps there is a copy of that work at the Phil National Library? I tried to check their website but my prepaid server is experiencing technical difficulties (its running very slow). Maybe you can check it yourself? If you want to search the National Library for a particular author, thesis, article, book etc. just click this url:

National Library of the Philippines

I hope this helps. By the way, I copied some of your user icons. Thanks! --Iandres 06:18, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Eskaya

Oh my goodness... What fascinating photos! I am thinking of writing a blog entry on these Eskaya for my Salita blog. You could use this in the "External Links" section, I am thinking. With blogs, from my understanding, the main concern is information and not pictures. However, I would suggest getting in contact with the owner of this blog and ask him permission to upload them into Wikipedia. You would have to ask him if it's OK to put the pictures under a license. I did the same with the Freddie Aguilar photo. My friend from Germany visited him and snapped a photo, and so I asked her if she would allow me to put it on Wikipedia. Good luck.

BTW if you find anything as far as Eskaya grammar goes or a way of reading what is written (It's taking me forever to read what's on the blackboard) then let me know. I want to see if I can connect it to other Philippine languages. The consonant clusters remind me of Tboli and Blaan. --Chris S. 19:45, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I found another picture where the language is written in Roman letters. Wooooow. Why were these photos top secret? Do the Eskayans not like outsiders? --Chris S. 19:48, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

--Chris S. 02:15, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Boxing Day

I observed it myself. I am in Indonesia, at Jakarta. The connection Timed Out at 26-28 December to this enormous site and all sites I've usually visited. Thank God there were improvements at 29 December. (It's 30 December now in my time). I was able to visit Wikipedia and Yahoo! Search, but I couldn't visit Google. UTC 18.24 29 Dec 06 Marhadiasa.

About J.B. Polo

I came across an article with a brief introduction on Prof Jaime Polo. I never heard of this Filipino Scholar until you ask me about his book. Let me share you what the article says about the Prof:

Dr. Jaime Biron Polo comes from the University of the Philippines (Diliman). He is currently a Fellow of Pulse Asia, Inc., at the Philippine Social Science Center, Diliman. From August 2001-April 2002, he was Philippine Fellow (under the sponsorship of the Asia Scholarship Foundation or ASF) at the Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. In Thailand, he undertook his field work for a research project on Thai conceptualizations of power titled "Interfaces Between Southeast Asian Traditions and Cyber Spaces: Thai Concepts of Power". He is now on a three-month attachment with the Asian Research Institute (ARI), National University of Singapore, also under the sponsorship of ASF.

By the way, I always wanted to check the Filipiniana Archives and Photo Archives of the Phil. Heritage Library. Do they have vintage phonograph recordings from the 1930's and 1940's of classical Kundiman music of the Philippines? --Iandres 06:45, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Scripts

I like popups, and have gotten used to using it already. 'Makes things a bit quicker. I just discovered Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts. Hmm... SWAdair | Talk 04:51, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Redundancies

I scanned the portal and fixed three that I found could be renamed (no article already existing at the non-redundant name). The difficult cases will be where an article already exists by the simpler name. In those cases I guess a merge and redirect will suffice. If you merge then you can't delete the article you merge from, for GFDL reasons, so merging requires redirecting the source article. If no merging is necessary (i.e. the target article already contains the information present in the redundant article) then the redundant one can simply be deleted. It might be a good idea to create a naming conventions section at Wikipedia:Tambayan Philippines. SWAdair | Talk 09:31, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Swslogo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Swslogo.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hi! I will tag it db-author. I replaced that with Image:SWSlogo.JPG - logo that does not have the 20years - with permission from Social Weather Stations. I will check the file to make sure proper documentation is there. Thank you for the reminder.--Pinay (talkemail) 18:29, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Can you please check Image:SWSlogo.JPG if I still have to do anything with it in terms of summary, documentation. I have an email from Social Weather Stations re permission to use the logo...Please advice. --Pinay (talkemail) 18:33, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The image Image:SWSlogo.JPG appears to be fine. Unless the permission granted is to license under a GFDL license or other free equivilent, the image has to be tagged as a fair use logo, as it currently is. It is very unlikely that it is released freely; to much value to the corp to protect it.--Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 18:43, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okey, thanks for the speedy reply/advice. I appreciate it. --Pinay (talkemail) 18:46, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Naming conventions

When a certain type of article has multiple ways of being named, members of a project often will decide how articles in the scope of the project should be named. See Wikipedia:Naming conventions for some examples. SWAdair | Talk 04:11, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation

Where the pre-existing articles were about non-clergy with the same names, I changed the wikilinks to include the word "Reverend", making them red-links that won't be confused with the others. In cases where more than one person (or item, or whatever the article is about) has the same name, the usual method is to create Disambiguation pages, but since this information is of a more transitory nature and the clergy mentioned might never get an article of their own, I decided it wasn't necessary to create disambig pages for them. Instead, I just changed the links so the article name would be different. This is more the exception than the rule. Usually disambig pages are the way to go. Thank you, again

Thank you for the RAOK barnstar. It is sincerely appreciated. BTW, and completely unrelated, I was wondering why you have a link to User:Optim/Links at the top of this page. Optim hasn't edited since 2004 and some of those links are out of date. Are you looking for a page of useful links? I was not sure about LeBreton's book; it was missing quotes at the end, and I made them italics, as "volume" indicates a book, not a chapter. That sentence is might lumpy, and might be better with "Dominique" moved before "old Jupiter". Chris the speller 01:33, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Let me check on this Chris. Thank you, as always. --Pinay (talkemail) 01:38, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The excerpt says, "Both the pioneer Creole priest of Louisiana, classical poet, missionary among the Choctaw Indians, and his happy-go-lucky brother, "old Jupiter in a black blanket," as Mrs. Dagmar Renshaw LeBreton styles him in her splendid volume Chaht a-Ima — Dominique, who was a master of lyric poetry — made Bonfouca their haunt." --Roger Baudier of CAS (see Ref 2) appears to have made the actual quote from LeBreton's Chaht a-Ima rather than LeBreton herself. From what it appears, LeBreton simply called Dominique "old Jupiter in a black blanket." There is certainly lumptiness of the sentence of Baudier but not in the way language is spoken in the southern part of Louisiana. Also keep in mind, the "creoles (locals), like the French Cajuns, has a way with words (and mighty proud of it!) that is only acceptable at home and no place else. Where else in the world would you hear someone ask you how you're doing with, "Where you at?" except in the "city that care forgot," New Orleans. --ChicogoN 10:08, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
posted in User talk:Chris the speller
If you want to preserve the lumpiness, you might want to put the whole sentence in quotes, not just "old Jupiter in a black blanket," so other editors will not be tempted to improve it. Chris the speller 17:17, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That is ok but the whole history as presented here is a bulk excerpt from the article itself as published in the Catholic Action of the South, no more, no less. If anyone wants to change the original newspaper article, then so be it.)--ChicogoN 00:47, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ate P, nagawa ko na yung mga pics. Medyo akong nahirapan sa mapa ng Bohol. There wasn't a "clean" map of Bohol available so I had to piece it together. At saka, I don't know the "minor" towns that you wanted me to do in lighter color. I looked in the article and I didn't see any reference to them. Let me know and I can go back and color them in. --Chris S. 10:18, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, Ate P. ayos na. BTW, you said "Batuan" two times. So I assumed you meant Valencia (which is in the article). Let me know if that's wrong. --Chris S. 22:41, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
