Edit-a-thon invite

Adrianne Wadewitz Memorial edit-a-thons

Adrianne Wadewitz edit-a-thons in Southern New England

As you may have already heard, the Wikipedia community lost an invaluable member of the community last month. Adrianne Wadewitz was a feminist scholar of 18th-Century British literature, and a prolific editor of the site. As part of a worldwide series of tributes, New England Wikimedians, in conjunction with local institutions of higher learning, have created three edit-a-thons that will be occurring in May and June. The events are as follows:

We hope that you will be able to join us, whether you are an experienced editor or are using Wikipedia for the first time.

If you have any questions, please leave a message at Kevin Rutherford's talk page. You can unsubscribe from future notifications for Boston-area events by removing your name from this list.

Jonestown Photos in public domain

As the manager of the website -- and the photographer of the shots at http://jonestown.sdsu.edu/?gallery=moore-family-photos-1979 -- I do want to reassure you that we intend all of the photos on our website to be in the public domain, except for those with a specific copyright notice (mainly from the Calif. Thanks for the update! From looking at the photo's talk page, it looks like the licensing issues have been straightened out, so I think there's nothing else that needs to be done here. —Tim Pierce (talk) 18:43, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This message is being sent to let you know of a discussion at the Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard regarding a content dispute discussion you may have participated in. Content disputes can hold up article development and make editing difficult for editors. You are not required to participate, but you are both invited and encouraged to help this dispute come to a resolution. The thread is "Links in APL (programming language)".The discussion is about the topic APL (programming language). Please join us to help form a consensus. Thank you! Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited S. F. Cushman Woolen Mill, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Cashmere and Kersey (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Tim/Pulaski Tech

Tim, I received your message. I reported malicious edits, asked for semi-protection due to high level of IP vandalism and just now the college is being slandered and incorrect facts are being posted. Hi -- thanks for the comment back. I'll follow up on your talk page. —Tim Pierce (talk) 22:58, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you decline the speedy deletion on Onlinelivenews24? Exactly the same article has already been created many times before, and deleted as A7. I've put it up for AfD, but I believe it should have been speedy deleted. Joseph2302 (talk) 12:45, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I declined it because speedy deletion is intended for articles that don't even make a plausible claim of notability (e.g. "Bob is my friend who's a real hoopy frood"). The article does assert that the site is one of the most popular in Bangladesh, so I don't think speedy is appropriate in this case. The article obviously will need more citations to pass -- and frankly I doubt that it will -- but I don't think speedy is the right process in this case. —Tim Pierce (talk) 14:07, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sonja Sohn wiki page

Hi Tim, We represent Sonja Sohn and are hoping to remove the images from her wiki page. Can you help with that? Best Roger — Preceding unsigned comment added by Suskinmanagement (talkcontribs) 17:07, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Suskinmanagement -- if you want to replace the image with a different one that would be fine. If there is an alternate image you're willing to release under a Creative Commons copyright license, you can upload it to Wikimedia Commons at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard and use that on the article instead. In general, if the article has no image and there are photos of Sonja Sohn available on Wikimedia Commons, someone will probably add one back. —Tim Pierce (talk) 18:23, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hiromi kirishima, It has since been deleted as spam and a copyright infringement. I'm sorry, but I also cannot see where this YT personality would pass Wikipedia's very strict guidelines for notability. Other than a handful of articles in various WP:SPS-esque sources, there really is no coverage of this person. I also noted on the article's talk page that you claimed he is popular on YT, but popularity does not equate to notability. It can make it more likely but it is not a guarantee. 7 Cups of Tea

I have been reverting clearly improper personal comments and have explained this to the new user on their talk page without escalating the warnings. Vandalism patrolling, which I have done for quite awhile, is an exception to 3RR. I don't claim to be always right and certainly make a mistake from time to time but I don't think someone can leave personal comments about "what an organization is really like" and not have them reverted. If you evaluate the content differently from me, please let me know. Thanks. Donner60 (talk) 20:00, 29 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You're quite right that this work falls under 3RR exemptions (not just vandalism, but also unsourced libelous information about living persons). Sorry to have interrupted you! —Tim Pierce (talk) 20:14, 29 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. As I said, I am not perfect and have made mistakes in vandalism patrolling from time to time (not too often, I think). I don't mind an occasional check and look back. I have restored some edits promptly when I realized, or in a few cases had it pointed out to me, that they were in good faith and at least arguably correct. It is good to be kept alert when doing this. If a mistake is made, then it can be quickly corrected. I think that is key. Avoid errors but in the event one is made, correct it quickly with an explanation and even apology if appropriate. I try to do that but a little reminder can be helpful. Hi Tim, I appreciate you answering a few questions for me yesterday in the live chat and thank you for your willingness to help. I am editing an article on Morgan Ganem. You recommended that I find stronger citations and focus on the more important things.

Article link: [[1]]

I found a new citation for the KC Chiefs chant that he wrote via an article written about it in the Tulsa World, though I couldn't figure out how to properly cite the link. (http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/nfl/stadium-rocker/article_5d644534-ee67-5ce7-9204-29a46dfa11ec.html?mode=image)

Also, I've omitted the Dr. Plasticine section because there isn't as much in depth important info on that subject.

As all Wikipedia writers, I would like to get this article edited so that it will be approved. Please feel free to make edits if you would like. I appreciate any suggestions or help you an give me.

Joe Val

Hi there - sorry to bother you, but I was hoping that you could help with a picture of the gravestone of bluegrass singer Joe Val, at Mount Feake Cemetery. The article tells me it has the engraving of a mandolin? I've no connection with the subject - it's a random copy-edit I picked out - but in an effort to improve wikipedia & as there are no images at all on it, I thought it might be nice. Your name (twp) popped up when I did a search of photographers near the area (here if you're interested). Thanks for your help & kind regards, NiGoosefort (talk) 10:24, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you :) NiGoosefort (talk) 09:25, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

would like to add a photo to the Green card spam page

I only have experience editing text in wikipedia. I would like to add a photo to the Green card spam page. It is of my "green card lawers -- spamming the globe" t-shirt that I bought back during the green card spam days. Maybe you can give me some feedback on whether any of the editors of that page will object?

Thanks!

Glee Willis gwillis — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gwillis (talkcontribs) 06:39, 12 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Gwillis: I think that sounds like a great idea and very on-topic for that page. The biggest concern is that uploading an image of someone else's artwork to Wikipedia can run afoul of intellectual property law. The image could be uploaded under the fair use doctrine in order to display it specifically on that one page. Alternatively, as it happens, I personally know Jay Furr, who designed the "Spamming The Globe" t-shirt. I'll ask him if he'd be willing to release the image under a CC license. —Tim Pierce (talk) 17:27, 12 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Request from beyond the grave

In 2007, you requested an image of the "Amstel Tower windmill" at Talk:Windmill. You either have got the wrong name or need to be more specific. The Amstel Tower is a to-be-built residential tower, while there are various tower-like windmills along the Amstel river. Could you please indicate which one you were refering to (maybe even with google maps links/coordinates)? --HyperGaruda (talk) 11:10, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
