Being targeted by an editor
Hello,

Although I have been registered since 2016, I have not had to ask this before, but an editor has insinuated that I am using more than one account. This is my only account and has been registered since February, 2016. The editor I believe is besmirching me on my TalkPage out of personal animus because we had disagreements about how to edit BLP in US politics. I have edited in Spanish, English, and Romanian and that, plus my writing style, are very different than the accounts the editor tried to accuse me of being related to. What can I do? Do I need to report this? Or, should I only worry about it if the editor goes after me again?SeminarianJohn (talk) 03:52, 23 July 2020 (UTC)

Welcome—ask questions about how to use or edit Wikipedia! (Am I in the right place?)
• For other types of questions, use the search box, see the reference desk or Help:Contents. If you have comments about a specific article, use that article's talk page.
• Do not provide your email address or any other contact information. Answers will be provided on this page only.
• If your question is about a Wikipedia article, draft article, or other page on Wikipedia, tell us what it is!
• Check back on this page to see if your question has been answered.
• For real-time help, use our IRC help channel, #wikipedia-en-help.
• New editors may prefer the Teahouse, a help area for beginners (but please don't ask in both places).

Massar (Company)

Note the improperly disambiguated page title at Massar (Company). The full name of the company is actually Massar Solutions, and I attempted to move the page to that title, but then received a notice that "Massar Solutions" has been protected against creation. Therefore the article creator was forced to use an incorrect title. Meanwhile, I reviewed this article for the Wikipedia:New pages patrol and determined that the company merits an article in Wikipedia (though others may disagree). Can we move the title to "Massar Solutions", the company's true name? Thanks. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 00:49, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Doomsdayer520 Wikipedia does not necessarily use legal or official names as article titles, it uses whatever independent reliable sources commonly use, see WP:COMMONNAME. However, if you feel that the full name is the most commonly used, you may request a page move at Requested Moves. 331dot (talk) 00:57, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but note that I brought the issue here specifically because all reliable sources use the full "Massar Solutions", and that is also what the company calls itself quite clearly. I will take to the Requested Moves page. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 00:59, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Doomsdayer520 I would suggest asking the admin who protected "Massar Solutions" against creation if the issues have been resolved. They will probably be consulted later in the requested moves process. TSventon (talk) 02:35, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

My IP address

Hi, just got told that a change made by me has been reverted (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:49.197.107.115) I didn't make this change (and wouldn't, given it was foul). Wasn't logged in, is just using my IP address. Do I need to do anything to prevent my IP address being used in this fashion again? Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask, my geekfu is weak. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.197.107.115 (talk) 02:27, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

49.197.107.115 The edit was made on 3 February 2019, so possibly before you started using the address. If your wifi is password protected that is probably all you can do. TSventon (talk) 02:47, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Hi IP editor. The easiest way to avoid getting these warnings is to register an account and stay logged in. You are not expected to make edits on the account if you do not wish to, but it will prevent messages that are not intended for you from showing up in your notifications. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 02:49, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
This is the right place to ask, but there is nothing Wikipedia can do. Your IP address is assigned by your internet provider, and many providers use dynamic addresses, so that tomorrow, or next week, or next month, or maybe even next time you connect, you will get a different IP address, and somebody else will get the one you were using. If you are not logged in, the IP address is the only information Wikipedia has to identify you, so it has no way of telling whether you are the same person as used that address before. --ColinFine (talk) 09:48, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Citing a Brochure/Document

Good day. I would like to ask if linking an available online copy is still preferable to citing it as a paper document if the online copy is originally made available by the manufacturer on its website(accessed through Archive.org) as a self-extracting file? I was referred to this page as it was noted that referencing an executable would be a possible security risk. Would uploading an extracted copy of the document be better alternative even though that makes authenticity of the document harder to verify? TheBitterNoob (talk) 05:58, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How about providing a link to the self-extracting file (clearly labelling it as such) and citing the paper document? If linking to a self-extracting file really is a no-no, you could provide the URL without doing so as a link: "Additionally, a self-extracting archive containing this document may be found at http://archive.org/evilcorporation/thismaynukeyourcomputer.exe", or whatever. -- Hoary (talk) 06:55, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm using Template:Multiple image to make comparison pictures like below. Then I want to put several of these comparisons in one <gallery> view, however <gallery> only accepts single images per line. The goal is to put each multiple image inline so that it they are displayed side-by-side, but also wrap on smaller screens. I don't mind to use an alternative for <gallery> or multiple image. where should we express problems of other wikis

Hello as you know there are so restrictions against freedom of thought in iran. Iwanna speak about doubted behaviours behalf of fa.wiki managers which form a kind of closed ring user/managers who actually assume themselves as wiki owners! They never critisize eachother, always supporting and standing with eachother. Dispite of all restrictions you know there are in Iran, one of them ownes this username: " Mardetanha " introduces his self as main wiki manager in iran and is promoting his self as main wiki manager! everywhere [1][2]. It means he is easilly accessanle for any third party to reach to users'es info.Furthermore there are very evidences shows managers violations in fa.wiki unfortunately don't solve at fa.wiki by the third person or manager which some of them can threaten users sگnervation and life! Where do yiu think is proper to express issues with detail of other wikis like fa.wiki?دوست من (talk) 12:11, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@دوست من: If you have an unresolved issue which cannot be resolved on Persian Wikipedia, you can submit a request for comment at Meta-Wiki. Danski454 (talk) 12:31, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Danski454Thanks a lot. As you see unlike less important policy pages they even haven't translated thid page in persian! Bad theorems are progressing overthere.دوست من (talk) 13:00, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
دوست من, This probably is the closest counterpart of the English wiki help desk. I only got there using a translator. You should first voice your concern there. Also, the user you are complaining about is a global Steward. Regards, Field Marshal (talk) 13:18, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
دوست من, thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately this is only the help desk for the English Wikipedia. I haven't participated in the fa-wiki but I can say with surety that no one could be having absolute authority. Your first choice should always be to try to solve the matter internally within fa-wiki (if your wiki has an Arbitration committee) but in case that doesn't work you can go to meta's Requests for comment or Help Forum. Also, just to make things clear, this wiki, the English Wikipedia, holds no authority over what happens at the Persian Wikipedia. [meta.wikimedia.org] is the site that coordinates all Wikipedias and projects. Regards, Field Marshal (talk) 12:45, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Neha Saxena ( Name Duplicacy )

Hi team ! I am facing lot of issues with regards to my profile on Wikipedia .my work is getting hampered due to two different profiles with same name on Wikipedia .Where in one Neha Saxena which is me ( Film Actress ) and the other Neha Saxena who is ( TV serial Artist ) .lot of my movie details are going to her profile and her details are getting merged in my Wikipedia page .My Picture gallery is completely messed up in Google search engine .Kindly help .It's been 6 years I am trying to sort this issue but no results .everytime it comes back to same old . — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2409:4071:5BF:CDB8:0:0:A8B:98B0 (talk) 13:36, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What are the specifc mixups between the articles Neha Saxena (film actress) and Neha Saxena (TV actress)? I have added a link to the latter at top of the former to warn readers and editors to not confuse the two. We are not responsible for Google search results. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:54, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the discussion over here, it looks like you already have two accounts, Neha Saxena Princess and Neha Saxena Artist. Ideally you should only be using one. If your problem is that you can't uploafd a picture to the wikipidea entry for Neha Saxena (film actress) then it was because the images you gave were not copyright-free. If you have a picture of yourself without which you have the legal rights of, you should upload it to Wikimedia Commons by clicking here. Then we can add the image to the concerned article. Regarding the mix and match, it probably is the fault of Google's indexing but if you see content whoch was supposed to be on one article but is accidentally on the other, do let us know.
One question that I would like to ask, which concerns our policy, is whether you have paid/hired anyone to edit the article Neha Saxena (film actress). Also, you must declare a conflict of interest regarding the article. Regards, Field Marshal (talk) 14:16, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
We are trying to help you, but you must help us first. A picture of you was deleted because it did not have a compatible copyright. PLEASE DO THIS:
• Personally take a picture of yourself.
• Upload that picture to Commons, filling in the correct copyright information.
• Place an edit request on the talk page of Neha Saxena (film actress) with the filename of the picture that you uploaded.
This will make a valid picture available. We cannot force Google or anyone else to actually use the correct picture, but after it becomes publicly available, you will stand a better change to convince Google to use it. -Arch dude (talk) 17:49, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple lozenges articles

I was looking for details on medical use of lozenges, such as the subliminal absorption of a product (vitamin B6 for example). I understand the legal aspects of delving into medical advice. I was surprised that I could only find mathematical and commercial throat lozenge references. Perhaps I’m not as adapt at search engine’s as I hoped. I’m not even close to being qualified to contribute, but if it isn’t here perhaps this might encourage someone worthy of the task to fill the void I perceive.

If it is there and I simply missed it, I apologize for the bother.

174.247.3.170 (talk) 14:06, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Delivery of B6 in lozenge format seems to be a relatively simple thing that could be added to Pyridoxine#Medical uses. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 14:45, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think autocorrect is sometimes fairly subliminal, but in this case I think you mean sublingual. -Arch dude (talk) 19:26, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Highlighting parts of the page using the link???

Not sure where to ask this, but decided to start here.

I googled the "National Spanish Honor Society" and the first hit (even before the questions) was to Wikipedia. I'm fine with that, that happens with many organizations. When I clicked on the link it took me to the page, but with several sentences highlighted in Yellow. I immediately went to edit the page to get rid of the highlighting, but there was no code, and when I reloaded the page, the highlighting was gone. What I figured out was that the link from google was

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_National_Honor_Society#:~:text=Spanish%20National%20Honor%20Society%20(Spanish,of%20interest%20in%20Spanish%20studies.&text=Each%20society%20member%20must%20have%20taken%20three%20semesters%20of%20Spanish%20or%20Portuguese.

I can understand Google wanting to do highlighting, my question is "Why does Wikipedia allow this?" and "Where is it documented?" and then I think my third question is "How do we get rid of it this capability?".Naraht (talk) 18:32, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Naraht: What browser are you using? This question has come up before, and I think the answer is that it something specific to the browser. Nothing that Wikipedia can do. RudolfRed (talk) 19:05, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I can replicate this with Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge on my Windows 10 PC. Documented at https://searchengineland.com/google-launches-featured-snippet-to-web-page-content-highlight-feature-335511 GoingBatty (talk) 19:15, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Naraht, There is nothing Wikipedia can do about it. It's part of a Google Chrome feature called 'text fragments' and doesn't work on other browsers as it is not a web standard. You can read more about it on this external site. Regards, Field Marshal (talk) 19:15, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
To answer the original question of what browser, up to date Google Chrome. And given that it isn't Wikipedia specific, looks like I have to figure out if it *can* be turned off in Google Chrome...Naraht (talk) 19:25, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Naraht: In short, adding #something to the end of a URL normally goes to the HTML anchor named "something" within a page. It can only find these anchors that have been specifically named by the page designer. E.g., Wikipedia page section titles are all anchors.
Chrome and Edge also have the ability to search for any text (not just those anchors named by the designer), effectively like automatically invoking the "Find in this page" (Ctrl-F) function, by adding #:~:text=something to the URL, which finds something on the page. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 22:23, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Inaccurate Image Marker

Is there any way to mark a map image as inaccurate?

File:Madawaska County NB - Madawaska Parish.PNG is missing two discontiguous parts of Parishes. G. Timothy Walton (talk) 20:31, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

G. Timothy Walton, there are various ways to do so within Wikipedia, but I doubt that any would be acted on. Perhaps make a request, linking to precise information about your proposed change, at commons:Commons:Graphic Lab/Illustration workshop (yes, at Wikimedia Commons, not Wikipedia). If you do so there, refer to ":File:Madawaska County NB - Madawaska Parish.PNG", which (because you're doing so there) will point to the image as hosted on Commons. -- Hoary (talk) 00:21, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
G. Timothy Walton, you could also use Wikipedia:Graphics Lab/Map workshop.   Maproom (talk) 08:04, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Melanie Fontana's Page

The wiki page for Melanie Fontana is incorrect and takes credit for work she didn't do and doesn't give credit to the artists that did, her page is blocked from corrections and it isn't right that the people that deserve credit didn't get it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:5C8:8100:3680:D56F:134:6B25:61AE (talk) 20:51, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Disappearing notification

Just a few minutes ago, I got a notification on Wikipedia saying (if I recall correctly) something about me making my "tenth edit". I'm not really sure what was meant by this, since I've been very active on Wikipedia for quite a number of years; I've made a lot more than ten edits, haha. I've been active on Wikimedia Commons more than usual lately, and the notification may have been related to that, but I'm certain that I had already made more than ten edits there too. As soon as I clicked on the notification, it disappeared. Now, when I ask to see "All Notifications", the most recent one to display is from several weeks ago. Can anyone explain what's going on here? Granted, it doesn't seem to be important, but I'm curious. --Jpcase (talk) 21:38, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Jpcase: Special:CentralAuth/Jpcase says 11 Wikidata edits. wikidata:Special:Contributions/Jpcase shows the 10th was just before your post. It was a page move at the English Wikipedia but it automatically makes a Wikidata edit when the page has a Wikidata item. You got a crosswiki notification from Wikidata. It may still show in notifications there but not here. PrimeHunter (talk) 05:53, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter: Ah, okay - thanks for helping me with that! I'm not really sure that I understand what Wikidata is, but I can see now that my edits associated with it are essentially all page moves. So that explains the notification. --Jpcase (talk) 14:57, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Jpcase: Wikidata is a database for Wikimedia projects. One of the functions is to keep track of article titles for the same subject at different wikis so the links under "In other projects" and "Languages" in the left pane can be up to date, e.g. at Two Brothers (2004 film) which you once moved. With Wikidata the corresponding link at all other wikis is automatically updated. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:20, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter: That makes sense - thanks! --Jpcase (talk) 15:26, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

About Sushant Singh Rajput on Wikipedia

Dear Sir / Mam, Please remove Death Cause as Death By Hanging Suicide as it has not been finally proved and fans from all over the world are giving more than enough proofs which clarifies and can be easily understood even by a kid of Std 3 but we are in India so nobody is listening to the voice of public. Ok no problem but we will boycott Bollywood and Voting also as if we are of no value to Government then Government also should not expect value from us. So please remove this suicide by hanging. Let the final decision come then u can use it not before that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2401:4900:445E:27D4:0:65:8CCB:4601 (talk) 01:00, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources state, not what unspecified members of the public state. The article notes that the death is under investigation and once findings of that investigation appear in independent reliable sources, they can be added to the article. 331dot (talk) 01:05, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
• Yes, but just three times makes it pale into insignificance when compared with "How can I post a profile of myself?", "Who can write a profile of me?", "My company has asked me to write a page about it; where should I start?", "I know The Truth; why am I prevented from posting it?", "Wikipedia is a leftist conspiracy", etc. -- Hoary (talk) 07:00, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
• Yes, but it looks very much like the same editor just WP:TE asking the same thing. We're bound to get the persistent requests such as you describe from those who don't know how Wikipedia works; most of the time their enquiries are (probably) GF and not repeated once answered. Language preferences

Wikipedia seems to prioritize certain languages over others in the Languages section on the left side of a Wikipedia page. But some languages it suggests are not my preferences. How do I change those suggestions? Regards, Inimesh (talk) 02:29, 20 July 2020 (UTC).[reply]

@Inimesh: There is a bug. The list should be alphabetical. The tech team is working on a fix. RudolfRed (talk) 02:42, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@RudolfRed: Okay. I wouldn't mind if Wikipedia first suggested my preferred languages, though. It would be a handy feature. But when it seems to constantly want me to translate an article into some unknown foreign language (i.e, Luxembourgish in my own case), I was surprised. – Inimesh (talk) 03:08, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Why did the : not indent text? Is it swallowed up by the tracked template somehow? Thanks. RudolfRed (talk) 02:48, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@RudolfRed: Generally because the phab tracker positions itself to the right and this conflicts with the indent. This is better:

I would like to add my faher's name to Wikipedia, but can't find the proper channel or input page. Here is his bio:

Proposed article content

Ronn Turner was a artist born in Phoenix Arizona in 1969. He attended North Phoenix High School where he received his first basic training in Arts. This is where he also received his first entrepreneurial experience as an artist as he sold most of his works to local craft and art stores. He enlisted in United States Marine Corps after high school and worked as a Technical Illustrator during the Vietnam War. He extended his artistic abilities and established a reputation as an accomplished artist while in the service. Painting portraits of High Ranking Officers and producing a multitude of renderings in various mediums.

After service he attended various community colleges in Arizona and in the South Bay Area of San Francisco. He graduated from Santa Clara University in 1980 through an educational assistance program while working at the Memorex Corporation as a technical illustrator.

His career in engineering began in 1979 where became an off shore engineer with Memorex Corporation in Mexico and ended with the McDonnell Douglas Corporation as a Sr. Cost Analysis engineer in 1989.

He opened his first art studio in 1987 in the historic San Carlos Hotel in Downtown Phoenix where he started to display his works in various venues around the city. In 1997 he was awarded a “Percentage for Art” commission from the City of Phoenix Arizona to design and develop the “Arizona Civil Rights Memorial”. The 1.5 ton steel and bronze structure was designed with input from every ethnic and social organization in the Phoenix area.

He opened his second gallery in Phoenix in 1998 under a non-profit foundation, The Ronn Turner Foundation to the Arts,” The Ronn Turner Art Gallery”. The gallery was designed for “free hanging” by local artists. He successfully applied and received a Charter School Application to teach art to high school students in 1999 under his Foundation. He successfully operated the gallery until November of 1999.

He became the Director of Gallery Operations for the San Joaquin County Arts Council in January of 2000 in Stockton California. He worked with the community in Stockton as the Secretary of the Afro-American Business Council from 2001 to 2003. After the gallery’s closure in 2001 he began exhibiting in northern California.

He also worked as a free-lance graphic designer with a northern California Art licensing company which signed him in 2002. He created a very popular clown series call “The Happy City Clowns” in 2003. A entire city of “Afro-centric American Clowns” in a city wide circus atmosphere depicted in various situations.

In 2004 he was instrumental in helping to develop a small group of artist to sponsor a 95 artist exhibit in Stockton California called “Color in the Valley. It was a successful showing of some of the most influential artists and crafters from around the country

In 2010 became the President of the San Antonio Ethnic Art Society (SEAS), the oldest African American community sponsored art group in America, spanning some 110 years. He continued to work in the Arts until 2017.

(Jorge Flores Escalante)

1934-2008

Flores was a painter, muralist and print maker. He was born in Durango, Mexico in 1934.

He joined the National School of Plastic Arts of the Autonomous University of Mexico in 1958. He became a member of the notable Francisco Goitia group of Mexican artists.

In 1973 he collaborated on the Don Quixote in the twentieth century, Polyforum Siqueiros Cultural Center.

He created the mural for the Senate of Mexico’s permanent Exposition at NASA.

Flores became director of the prestigious workshop of David Alfaro Siqueiros, where he worked for more than four years and collaborated on important restoration of works by the master.

Flores was one of many prominent artists who fought for the preservation of the art and architectural landmark, the Casino of the Jungle in Cuernavaca Mexico. The property was bought for development by a multinational company (Costco of Mexico) and eventually destroyed with the condition that a museum would be built to occupy part of the commercial development.

Flores collaborated on the creation of the museum including the moving and restoration of the original murals. Within its buildings and halls were magnificent signed works by these historically renown artists: Josep Renau de la Hispanidad, Jose Reyes Meza, Guillermo Ceniceros, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Jorge Flores, Francisco Icaza and Jorge González Camarena amoung others.

Dear Alexei,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I have just checked this and have tried to fix this for you but it looks like the issue is the change in the ResearcherID sequence.

We have recently changed to from a one letter ResearcherID sequence to a three letter ResearcherID sequence. This is due to the high volume of ResearcherIDs being generated over the year, and there are only so many possible unique combinations.

It looks like Wikipedia/Wikidata is not yet be aware of this change in the ResearcherID sequence and therefore may have not updated their forms to accept the new ResearcherID. We advise you forward this email to the Wikipedia/Wikidata to advise them of this change.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to keep in touch.

Is this directly stated somewhere in Wikipedia's official guidelines?

Is the following directly stated, rather than just implied, by English Wikipedia content guidelines: "Wikipedia is not in the business of debunking misconceptions. We report an aggregate of what experts in whatever field report. Even when the received wisdom in some field is obviously one huge misconception, we faithfully report it – but if there are enough counter voices, we report these as well."? I was thinking of proposing this in the policy section of Village Pump because I have seen some long-time users on here having a very different idea of how to determine which type of content should this project contain. how can I start writing article on Wikipedia

want to write an article about a company under wikiproject companies. So How can I start writing? can someone suggest me? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kratika30 (talkcontribs) 07:41, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Kratika30: You can start with WP:YFA. Please note that creating a new article is one of the hardest tasks you can find on Wikipedia.Victor Schmidt (talk) 07:46, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Kratika30(ec) Successfully writing a new article is the absolute hardest thing to do on Wikipedia. It takes much time and practice. Diving right into it without at least a basic understanding of the process usually ends with disappointment and hurt feelings as something that you worked hours on is mercilessly edited and deleted by others. I don't want that to happen to you, so I would suggest that instead of starting right with writing a new article, you should first spend much time editing existing articles in areas that interest you, to get a feel for how Wikipedia works and what is expected of article content. You should also use the new user tutorial.
However, if you still want to attempt to create a new article right away, you should read Your First Article, and then visit Articles for Creation to create and submit a draft for review by another editor before it is formally placed in the encyclopedia, so you find out any problems first instead of afterwards when it will be treated more critically.
If you work for or are associated with the company you wish to write about, you must review and formally comply with the conflict of interest and paid editing policies. The latter is a Terms of Use requirement if you receive any compensation(not just money) for your edits. You may also want to become familiar with the Wikipedia definition of a notable company to see if the company you want to write about actually merits a Wikipedia article- not every company does, even within a particular field. 331dot (talk) 07:48, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Здравствуйте,Maru1286. No editor (we do not have "moderators") has undone your edits to Dato Khujadze. A bot removed many inappropriate links that you added {see ELNO): I see you have added them back again. English Wikipedia is not interested in anything published on user-generated sources like Twitter or Facebook, or anything said or published by the subject or their associates: it is only interested in what independent commentators have published about the subject. At the moment the article cites no reliable references, and therefore does nothing to establish that Khujadze meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability. The article is therefore quite likely to be deleted, and adding more irrelevant links will not help. What is needed is citations to reliable independent sources. Since all your edits are to this one article, I ask, do you have a connection with Khujadze? If so, you need to read about editing with a conflict of interest; and if you are doing this in the course of your work, or you are in any way paid for editing, then you must make a declaration of paid editing. --ColinFine (talk) 15:22, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Maru1286: On the English Wikipedia, we need a few high-quality sources to establish notability. Adding a lot of non-qualifying sources does not help, and in fact can hinder this process. See Wikipedia:Common sourcing mistakes (notability). Note that those other sources may or may not be appropriate for other uses, but they do not help establish notability. -Arch dude (talk) 19:19, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Oliver M. Thomas JR. Wikipedia Page

To whom it may concern,

This may not matter to your company or you may not care but I would hope that the negative portrayal of African Americans who have made a mistake isn’t a lifetime brand given by Wikipedia. It’s been over 13 years since my public mistake and all your page focuses on is the negative, even a traffic incident where I ultimately got public policy changed because it was so absurd. Since my return home I Host the most popular African American talk show in New Orleans, I co wrote the most successful stage play ( Reflections-Sold out 13 straight nights) , revived the Man of the Year award in 2019 from The Black Social Workers Association, Starred in Harold Ellis Clark’s Fishers of Men , starred in Dr. Flint Mitchell’s the Other Black History, started a Successful Mentoring Program at McD 42 Middle School, part of Current Mayor LaToya Cantrell Transition Team, contributed on many important stories about New Orleans Infrastructure , appointed to several important committees from housing to the Water Collaborative, facilitated the National Resiliency Conference at the New Orleans Convention Center, etc, etc, etc. The images and stories of Black Men and Black Lives that have paid there dues and debt to society and the hen turned their life around and made even a greater contribution should be admired and applauded by your company. Should be used as an example of what you can do when you change your life. But I understand! The knee should never come off our necks, and the negative portrayals of Black Men is important to continue the stays quo.

If you’re not interested in rewriting my Story at least be mindful of the lives and names that you refuse to give a SECOND CHANCE TO:

Wikipedia editors repeat what we find in reliable sources. As an encyclopedia, we are supposed of be neutral, and we don't remove older material that is true. I do agree that your more recent career is not well mentioned in the Oliver Thomas article. That's because none of our 100,000 or so self-directed volunteer editors have taken an interest in the material. This is a result of our chaotic crowdsourced philosophy. As the subject of the article, you have an unavoidable conflict of interest (WP:COI). This is not a problem, it's just a fact. Because of the COI, you should not edit the article yourself. Instead, please do put suggestions for improving the article on its talk page at talk:Oliver Thomas. Please provide citations to reliable sources. Please also add the request edit tag, which will probably attract the attention of an editor who wants to do this work. -Arch dude (talk) 01:58, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Your concerns are serious enough that I think we need to attract some interested editors. There are hundreds of "wikiprojects" where self-selected interested editors hang out. Some projects are moribund, and some are quite active. I'm not sure, but I think the folks over at Wikipedia:WikiProject African diaspora Will be able to help out, or at least find the right editors to help. Please post on that project's talk page after you place your suggestions on talk:Oliver Thomas. If that fails, please post on my talk page in a few days and I will try to find the right folks. -Arch dude (talk) 02:05, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Billboard chart abbreviations

Is there a place where I can see a list of how each Billboard chart should be abbreviated in Discography tables? For example, the Billboard Hot 100 chart is written as "US", the Adult Top 40 chart is written as "US Adult", the Top Heatseekers chart is written as US Heat, etc. But it's not entirely apparent how specific genre charts should be written. Unless I'm missing something, WP:Record charts doesn't seem to explain what the standard abbreviations are, so I'm not sure where to find this information. --Jpcase (talk) 02:43, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, but Wikipedia is written by volunteers. You are welcome to make proper edits here for free, but Wikipedia does not hire freelance writers to make content, and this is not a way to make money. Best ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 13:15, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Recent Deaths

Hello, is there a reason for the 'recent death' section being updated so frequently these days? at least compared to a couple of years ago it was scarcely updated.

Not a criticism by the way, just interested in knowing what led to the decision and if there was any debate etc.

Pho3nix- (talk) 13:50, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Pho3nix-: It was changed to allow everybody with an updated quality article in 2016. See Wikipedia talk:In the news/2016 RD proposal. Before the subject had to be more significant. The current rule is at Wikipedia:In the news#Recent deaths section. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:21, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Translate German Article to Englisch

Hi guys,

I urgently need a German article to exist in English. I have a professional translation in hands.

Thanks for helping.

Best, Sergio — Preceding unsigned comment added by Semuestra (talkcontribs) 15:00, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

FYI: Additional info for answering editor: Sergio is most probably referring to this or this. Field Marshal (talk) 15:29, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If Field Marshal Aryan, is right, I would strongly recommend Semuestra to get rid of one of those drafts. Maintaining rival drafts on the same topic is a really bad idea. It deters other editors from working to improve either of them, as they do not know which is the "preferred" version. It confuses reviewers, who may reject a submission on the grounds that another version already exists. It can even confuse the person responsible. And it achieves nothing useful. Maproom (talk) 17:04, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Maproom (talk) Field Marshal (talk) he is right but I don't now how two versions were created. Neither I know how I can delete one? Please support — Preceding unsigned comment added by Semuestra (talkcontribs) 18:56, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Semuestra: At the top of the page you want to delete, type db-self. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 23:18, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Misspelled name

Hi,

This is the first time and probably the only time I'll be bothering you. I ran across an article that misspells my great grandfather's name. An entry about the lost indian woman of San Nicholas Island. I see I'm 'authorized' to edit entries but like I said, this is a first.

Do I just 'change it?' Can I?

I checked the source reference file and THERE the name is misspelled as well so that explains how the error showed up in your entry. Do I need to 'prove' the correct spelling or anything like that?

Oh, and I can document the correct spelling.

Thank You,

Dennis Dittman — Preceding unsigned comment added by DennisDittman (talkcontribs) 15:33, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

DennisDittman, if you're just correcting the name and not doing anything else to the article I don't object at all, if you're going to do anything other than that, you'll need to disclose your WP:COI Ed6767 talk! 15:46, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You do need to support the change with a reference to a published reliable source. --David Biddulph (talk) 15:48, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Publishing a Page

Hello,

I've recently created my first Wiki page https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Pkarundel/sandbox/Cassie_Mogilner_Holmes&oldid=965117311

Unfortunately, it's now been a few weeks and I still don't see this page showing up in Google.

Did I miss something or is my page just pending review? And, is there a place on your page where I can check how long it will take for my page to be approved?

Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pkarundel (talkcontribs) 15:52, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Pkarundel. The page you published is in the User namespace. It should be in the Article namespace for better search engine optimization. Please note that even then we cannot control how Google crawls over wikipedia articles. Field Marshal (talk) 15:58, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Pkarundel: and Field Marshal Aryan We use the "nobots" flag to tell Google to not index pages in the user and draft namespaces. We also use it to tell Google to not index articles in article space that are younger than 90 days unless they have been reviewed. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a blog or social media site. We are not here to provide a quick way to get noticed on Google. If that is your primary goal, you can find other worthy places on the web for your information: see WP:OUT. -Arch dude (talk) 18:22, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the feedback. Is there a simple way of transferring it over or do I need to recreate the page in the article namespace? Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pkarundel (talkcontribs) 16:02, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I see you have now submitted it for review, Pkarundel. Looking quickly at the references, it looks as if, while you have provided plenty, most of them are citations of works by Holmes: Wikipedia is not very interested in what the subject of an article has said or published: it is much more interested in what has been published about the subject by independent people. I notice that the section "Early life and education" is unreferenced. If I have missed some sources independent of her, then I apologise; but if I haven't, you need to add some. Please see WP:CSMN. You can continue working on it while it is waiting for review. --ColinFine (talk) 16:28, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Donating to Wikipedia

Hello,

In the past I have donated to Wikipedia, and I started to donate recently, BUT I get so upset and offended when I make a choice of an amount to donate, a one time donation (An moment that I can do at his time), and then Wikipedia does this 'Bait and Switch' technique, and YOU say, WHY not donate some other amount monthly, you suggest and make a change to the screen. It feels so dishonest and I get immediately turned off and close the donation page, AS I JUST DID, for the third time. Please don't do that !!!!! I won't donate at all. That technique really turns me off.

Rory McCarthy

PS I found it so hard to send you folks a message, and this is all I found and is probably not the correct place to send you this comment. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:184:200:1D7B:C87D:BDFC:1634:CEA4 (talk) 17:01, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I sympathise, and I'm sorry you've been put through that. But this is page is for the unpaid volunteer editors who actually build the encyclopedia to help each other with editing problems. We don't get any of the donations, they go to the Wikimedia Foundation, which needs money to run its servers, provide legal advice, etc. But they get more donations than they need - I'd suggest you keep your money, or spend it on some more deserving cause. Maproom (talk) 17:12, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You'll find that many organizations seeking funding have sustained membership options when taking donations, notably organizations like NPR. I'm sorry it upsets you but other than that I don't know what to say. Thanks. ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 17:22, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Rory! There's an email address listed at the bottom of https://donate.wikimedia.org/wiki/Problems_donating you could use to express your concern to the Wikimedia Foundation. Good luck! GoingBatty (talk) 23:23, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Am having problems logging in

How do I continue with my password in Wikipedia since your site is rejecting it but your sister site Wiki common accepts it — Preceding unsigned comment added by 105.112.112.218 (talk) 20:12, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The same username and password should work both at https://commons.wikimedia.org and here at https://en.wikipedia.org. Both username and password are case sensitive. Most users can log in at one site and are then automatically logged in at the other when they switch but it can depend on browser cookie settings. Are you told the password is incorrect or are you just unable to log in or remain logged in? If it's the latter then see WP:COOKIES. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:22, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Publishing a biography

I created a biography of Dr. L N Virasinghe-Chinnapppa in the sandbox and then Copied and pasted it in the "create" page. Not sure it has worked. Please let me know how I should proceed. Also there is a pdf document I would like to use as a reference. I thought I inserted it but it doesn't show up. Please help. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andy00121 (talkcontribs) 21:19, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Andy00121: I see you created User:74.96.190.212/sandbox and then pasted the text into your user page at User:Andy00121. For information on how to create an article, please see WP:Your first article. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 23:26, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Help removing "undisclosed payment" tag from organic article

I've been an editor on Wiki for quite some time and was attracted to contributing when I had the idea to research and create the article for Brandun DeShay while still in college. This was done so long ago and I've only helped maintain it with the help of other random contributors over the years. Recently, it was given a tag accusing of being created for money... This is untrue and I would like help removing it please. I worked very hard along with many others to upkeep this article and I can assure you there was no payment involved. Just a fan of his work. Below the article link is included-----

Yleonmgnt Someone may suspect that you are a paid editor because your name seems like it could be that of a management agency or marketing firm. 331dot (talk) 00:23, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead and removed the tag. You’ve been an editor for 10 years and I don’t see anything about the article that is obviously promotional or biased. Likely misunderstanding as 331dot points out. Cheers ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 00:55, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've also removed the tag from Brandun DeShay production discography. -- Hoary (talk) 02:26, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Or, should I only worry about it if the editor goes after me again?SeminarianJohn (talk) 03:52, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
