large uncertainty

[edit]

the statement, "The mean estimated age of the ASPM allele of 5,800 years ago, roughly correlates with the development of written language, spread of agriculture and development of cities" seems highly speculative given the large uncertainty of the dates in question. Is there any evidence that will pin this down to something reasonable like ±600 years, instead of the present ±6000 or so? if not, then then we should look for some criticisms to include to balance this claim. -- 99.233.186.4 (talk) 20:10, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, especially since the Wik article on the history of agriculture says, "Agriculture involving domestication of plants and animals was developed [true, this is development and not spread, but still] at least 10,000 years ago, " and the Wik article on the history of writing gives a date of 3,000 B.C. 211.225.33.104 (talk) 05:47, 13 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the lower bound of "500 years ago" because it is obviously far too generous. What we know is probably better stated as "less than 14100 years ago". Soap 21:25, 15 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
