I cannot find any usage of "Galloway Hoard" in reliable sources (only a comment on facebook), and "Dumfries and Galloway hoard" and "Dumfriesshire Hoard" still seem to be the most widely used names. Of course, if they would reveal where the hoard was actually found it could have a useful name not just a vague county-level name. 16:59, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

This article from BBC online 24.3.2016 refers to the find as the 'Galloway Hoard' http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-south-scotland-35871538 Confusion arises from common misunderstanding regarding the component parts of D&G which results in frequent reference to 'Dumfries' for the whole (not a little irksome to natives of Galloway, who still adhere to the names of the old dispensation). If it turns out, as seems likely, that the hoard was found in a parish of the Stewartry then 'Dumfriesshire Hoard' will clearly be wrong, and 'Dumfries and Galloway Hoard' unnecessarily cumbersome when 'Galloway Hoard' would clearly do. Of course, when we finally learn the name of the parish where the find was made, or the farm, that will render the discussion superfluous, local names having their own particular music.JF42 (talk) 22:11, 27 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Tend to agree. Martinevans123 (talk) 23:01, 27 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Can this wikidata category be changed please? The Viking Hoard was found in Galloway in the county of Kirkcudbrightshire to be precise and is nowhere near Dumfries shire. These sort of errors are a great source of irritation to those of us who live in Galloway and shouldn't occur on Wikipedia which plays great emphasis on accuracy and verification. The Galloway Hoard is the accepted name and there are numerous references most notably The National Museum of Scotland (NMS) in Edinburgh where the Hoard now is. I've done a bit, but the Commons cat still uses the other & these are impossible to change (in effect). Johnbod (talk) 21:12, 2 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
