Southmost location and date

[edit]

Weddell's book has a different location and date for his southmost point. Does anyone have a preference for the "February 17, 1823 the two ships had reached latitude 74°34' S and longitude 30°12' W" from the web site? Southmost was February 20, 1823 at 74°15' S, 34°16'45" W (Weddel page 37; erroneously 1822 but correct 1823 in map and Fuchs, 1970). Page 35 says February 17 was at 71°34' S, 31°12' W, so the 74 might be a misreading of 71. (SEWilco 04:20, 27 February 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Corrected from Feb 17 to Feb 20. Anyone want a map of the trip? (SEWilco 03:45, 10 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Ostend

[edit]

In what Ostend Weddell is born? In Belgium, in Essex or in Norfolk? This source says that ...Weddell's father was a Presbyterian upholsterer from Dalserf in Scotland who had settled in London and married... - nothing about Belgium. --Kikos 19:32, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Is the dusky conure, Aratinga weddellii, also named after him? --zandperl (talk) 22:33, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
