Hello! Why the Megarachne drawing has a "tail"? The fossil looks like a tailess eurypterid...

Because the fossil is incomplete. FunkMonk (talk) 03:55, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Specific name origin?

[edit]

Is the origin of the specific name servinei known? —Collint c 17:44, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have yet to track down a copy of the original paper where it was first described (should be "A giant fossil spider (Megarachne servinei) from Bajo de Veliz, Upper Carboniferous, Argentina" by Hünicken, 1980) so can't say for sure (and even then species name meanings are sadly often left out) but if I was to guess I'd say it's probably named after a geographic location or a person.
