AP Herald is a dubious tabloid website and has no authenticity while eenadu is the largest circulated Telugu daily newspaper in the entire world. Not even a close contest. Highly recommend adding the eenadu reference 38 to the Telugu Family word in the early life. Pray tell us Marchoctober as to what is the overwhelming evidence that Nadella is a Brahmin.

Currently the article states, "Nadella was born in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India, in a Telugu family to an IAS officer, B. N. 2. Are the father's later exploits, long after Mr. Nadella had moved to the USA, really relevant? It seems according to Mangalore_University#History that there was some transfer of Mangalore University colleges: " In 1993, the Manipal associated colleges were transferred to Manipal University." CEO section needs expansion/rewrite

In my opinion, the CEO of Microsoft section of this article needs a re-write. He's been on the job for 8 months. I visited this article to read up on the types of changes Satya Nadella is making to Microsoft, what his leadership vision is, what investors think of his strategy, and what direction the company is going in. Instead I get 5 paragraphs of feminism and 0 paragraphs about what he is actually doing at the company. I would suggest reducing the feminism down to 1-2 paragraphs, then adding 3+ paragraphs about the actions that Nadella is taking as CEO. What is his vision for Windows 10? What acquisitions has Microsoft made under his leadership (Nokia, Minecraft, etc.)? Is Microsoft going to continue on this tablet-centric path that Ballmer embarked them on or is Nadella steering them back toward the traditional PC market? – Novem Lingvae (talk) 19:39, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

India born

An editor recently reverted my edit "India-born, naturalized American" in the lead, with edit summary "not essential for notability" or words to that effect. This mention of country of birth, is in fact par for the lead. See Saul Bellow (who left Quebec for Chicago at age nine), Albert Einstein (who renounced his German citizenship at age 17), V. S. Naipaul (who left Trinidad at age 17). In Nadella's case, his American citizenship (which is mentioned in the lead, and less relevant to his notability than his previous Indian-) is relatively recent. Current WP:Manual of Style/Biographies disagrees "Similarly, previous nationalities or the country of birth should not be mentioned in the opening sentence unless they are relevant to the subject's notability". Other articles do not set a precedent (WP:Other stuff exists). His birth location is totally irrelevant to his notability. Nationality is explicitly listed as part of the basic description. Birth info is in the adjacent infobox and well described in article. Birth location does not belong in first paragraph of the lede. Geraldo Perez (talk) 02:22, 27 April 2014 (UTC)

Even if I were to take the MOS, written by your average amateur Wikipedian and subject to constant change, as etched in stone, why is Nadella's Indian citizenship not relevant to his notability. How did you divine that? It is not his birth location, but the 22 years he spent in India getting educated at an Indian elementary, middle- and high school, then at a government subsidized university, then another five years as an Indian student in the US, and another ten years as an Indian citizen working in the US with an H1 visa, and subsequently with a Green card before he became a US citizen. So, all in all, approximately 37 years of his 45 or 46 years have been spent as an Indian citizen. Again, how have you divined that those years are not relevant to his notability. After all, had he not become a US citizen (i.e. remained a permanent resident) MOS, if taken as gospel truth, would have compelled us to write, "Satya Nadella is an Indian software engineer, ...," with no mention of the US, thereby somehow implying the his US years are not relevant to his notability. This particular part of the MOS has been there since October 2009 [3] after a discussion (aka people thought deeply about this issue) and the intent, if not the exact wording, has been stable since then. Previous to that birth location was normally there, after that point, not. The change in the example in the MOS when the edit was made makes the intent explicitly clear and well-covers this exact same issue.

This article was created January 13, 2013 and as it was not deleted at that time presume it met basic notability requirements for a wikipedia article. He had no notable activities until he became a senior executive of Microsoft. He was an American national at that point in time. He had activities, but no notable activities as an Indian national, no different than any other random software engineer, mid level executive working for a large company. What he did before he became notable belongs in a well-writen bio article but would not in of themselves be sufficient to support one. Saying in the first sentence, where he was born and that he was naturalized as opposed to native born has nothing to do with the reason he is notable now. Here is the sum total of that discussion. There is no consensus at all. In fact, an editor Sssoul says in this edit, "i don't think any 'one size fits all' type solution will be adequate to deal with this - there are times when the country of birth is relevant and times when it isn't; and when it's 'relevant enough' to be mentioned in the lead varies. it needs to be sorted out on an individual basis, by the editors of the idividual articles - not through edit-warring, but not by introducing blanket MoS rulings either."

I looked at your MOS:Biography link as well. The most recent edit there has edit summary, "not consistent with general encyclopedic practice." Well, I'm suggesting this bit of MOS is not always consistent with general encyclopedic practice. Usually, when someone has been born, raised, achieved adulthood, and the age of consent, in one country, and has then emigrated to another, their native country is mentioned in the lead. The first 21 years shape the life. Examples abound in other encyclopedias as well. Here are some comparable biographies (in terms of the age at which the subject arrived in the country of second citizenship and their non-notability at the time of arrival; actually many subjects were younger than Nadella at the age of migration.)

• Cary Grant's Wikipedia page says, "Cary Grant (born Archibald Alexander Leach; January 18, 1904 – November 29, 1986) was an English stage and Hollywood film actor who became an American citizen in 1942." (CG moved to the US in 1920, aged 16; became a US citizen at age 38.)

• Cary Grant's Britannica page says, "Cary Grant, original name Archibald Alexander Leach (born January 18, 1904, Bristol, Gloucestershire, England—died November 29, 1986, Davenport, Iowa, U.S.), British-born American film actor whose good looks, debonair style, and flair for romantic comedy made him one of Hollywood’s most popular and enduring stars."

• Mel Gibson's Britannica page says, "Mel Gibson, in full Mel Columcille Gerard Gibson (born January 3, 1956, Peekskill, New York, U.S.), American-born Australian actor, who became an international star with a series of action-adventure films in the 1980s and later earned acclaim as a director and producer. This incident is just way out of proportions. He gave a silly remark, and after realising it was silly he offered an apology. Case closed. If we are going to use that much space on a tiny incident like this, then the article in total should be some 1,000+ pages in order to give due weight to the rest of the guy's work.

So this is not removed due to lack of sources (seems backed up by good in-line references) and its not because I am against equal pay for females (I am and I do strongly believe any sane person is), but this is just a tiny detail in a long career. By conceding Windows phone and winding down Lumia, he has conceded that Microsoft is going to be a business only company at some point in the future. This was a terrible long term decision because the phone will drive the desktop OS for a lot of people. It would have been better and cheaper to pay the carriers to promote the phones during the ramp up and 2.) Pay top app providers (snap chat) to offer windows phone apps. Also, they really need to focus on doing fewer things better (One drive comes to mind). Under Nadella, Microsoft revised its mission statement to "empower every person and organization on the planet to achieve more". His first major acquisition was of Mojang, a Swedish game company best known for the popular freeform computer building game Minecraft, in late 2014, for $2.5 billion. Minecraft was notably a cross-platform game, with versions running on Apple's iOS mobile devices, and the Sony PlayStation dedicated gaming console, as well as Microsoft's Xbox. He followed in early 2016 by purchasing Xamarin, a company dedicated to software development of applications that would run equally well on Google's Android, Apple's iOS, and Microsoft's Windows operating systems. In June 2016, Nadella bought LinkedIn, the business oriented social networking site. It was the biggest acquisition in Microsoft's history, for $26.2 billion, and underscored Microsoft's commitment to the Web.

In the years since becoming CEO, Nadella is viewed as having done well, with Microsoft stock having risen more than 60% since he took over, and achieving an all-time high.

It doesn't matter how many sources mention it, if he doesn't say it himself. Could we change the current infobox photo to this one on the right? Satya Nadella recently released a number of images on https://news.microsoft.com/exec/satya-nadella/ under Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike, and I've uploaded them to Wikimedia Commons. He says he'd prefer this one for the article photo. Satya Nadella published "Hit Fresh's second edition on Nov 5th, 2019. The 1st edition is published on 2017. As like the book's name, it suggests it is necessary and healthy to hit refresh, Microsoft is continuing transformation. In this edition Nadella says that, " our customers expect more and if we don't deliver, but our competitors will. Citizenship

Nadella is listed as an American citizen (which is correct, of course), but it seems unlikely to me that he'd have given up his Indian citizenship. He was in his twenties before coming to the USA, after all. Is there evidence that he's not both an American citizen and an Indian citizen? James Montgomerie (talk) 11:27, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
