Walter Wanger
[edit]During the summer of 1961, a high school friend got me a job to help him in the mail room at the Eastern Steamship Corporation located on about 8th St. and Biscayne Blvd., Miami, FL. By 1962 we were entitled to our vacation and so we got onboard the ship Ariadne. A seven day cruise with stops in Jamaica, Haiti and Nassau. It was on that trip we somehow befriended “Wally” Wanger as he was introduced to us. He was a much older stylishly dressed man than we and accompanied by a much younger woman than he named “Holly.” Holly was a redhead and definitely a “show girl” because it turns out she was part of the nightly entertainment singing. During the seven days we socialized with them off and on in passing. After the trip we were invited to lunch at a home where they were living or staying somewhere in Miami and that was it. It wasn’t until about 40 years later when I had the time to enjoy Turner Classic Movies, that I see his name on the screen and the TCM hosts mentioning him and I said... “Well now ain't that a kick-in the-head!” Carlos E.
