Which characters to list

[edit]

To keep the list limited, shall we only list characters who have an article? This means removing Greg and Peridot as, for now, they don't have an article dedicated to them. Of course, I'd keep Amethyst and Steven in as major characters whose voice actors are vital for the navbox. If you have thoughts, feel free to share :) ~Mable (chat) 13:29, 22 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

On a related note, I was thinking about removing the voice actress for Stevonnie, as she isn't particularly important for Steven Universe as a whole, and it is unlikely that one goes to the navbox to go to an article on her... ~Mable (chat) 13:30, 22 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely keep Amethyst. For now she does not have her own article, but she's a vital character. After all, it is "Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl... and Steven!". Besides, it redirects to a section with plenty of Amethyst info. --Noventa Inta (talk) 02:55, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The info box is to help people find articles. If Amethyst doesn't have an article, she shouldn't be listed. Otherwise where do we draw the line? Mrmoustache14 (talk) 16:37, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I swear I remember the guidelines on this topic containing a note on how black text is allowed if it is necessary to "complete a set", such as listing all band members even if one of them is not notable. I think such a rule would definitely apply here, but I can't seem to find it. Does anyone know anything about that? ~Mable (chat) 22:03, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, what you are referring to is detailed here. Noventa Inta (talk) 06:07, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Amethyst now has an article, but it needs more work before it should be placed here. Noventa Inta (talk) 06:32, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not listing the primary creators of the show

[edit]

@Robsinden: Can you link to where this consensus was achieved? It seems ridiculous not to have Rebecca Sugar, as her input in the series is about as vital as that of an author of a book series or at least the creators of a video game series. The guidelines on the topic don't say anything about this. Other cartoons such as Adventure Time also included the creators before you removed them. Template:SpongeBob SquarePants lists the primary creator. I'd like to know what the deal is. As a reader, I'd expect to be able to get to the article of a creative work's creator easily through an article's navigation box. ~Mable (chat) 13:20, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I cant remember where it was discussed. It's most likely the actors and film-maker's project, as, you're right, it doesn't apply to books, etc. --Rob Sinden (talk) 13:21, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Why doesn't it apply to the creator of Spongebob Squarepants or South Park or anime or any field other than cartoons? Also, what kind of argument could you possibly give for this? ~Mable (chat) 13:29, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Consider a TV creator like {{Stephen J. Cannell}}. Assuming that each of his series had an individual navbox, if we included his name in each navbox, that means that the article Stephen J. Cannell would have a ridiculous number of navboxes them. So we don't include TV show or film series creators, producers, directors, etc, in the navboxes to WP:Avoid template creep. --Rob Sinden (talk) 13:38, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That would be a decent argument if Rebecca Sugar had also worked on a large amount of series, but all she has done is Adventure Time and Steven Universe. We can't create a "Rebecca Sugar" template because it would only list three articles. Cannell is listed prominently in the footer of every one of the shows he's worked on because he does have his own navbox. Surely, this should be done with a case-by-case method in order to optimize navigation between articles while minimizing clutter? It is sad that Sugar currently doesn't have a navbox at all in her footer. ~Mable (chat) 13:54, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately that wouldn't work, because then you'd get people making the reverse argument - i.e. "Rebecca Sugar is included at {{Steven Universe}}, so why can't Stephen J. Cannell be included at {{The A-Team}}", etc, etc. --Rob Sinden (talk) 13:57, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
There are some deletion discussions at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2009 December 14 which are relevant. --Rob Sinden (talk) 13:57, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ugh, I see how this is a messy subject. Can't we develop somekind of "primary role" system where, if a creator is known primarily for one or two major creative works and don't have a navbox of their own, they can be included in those navboxes? It is very unfortunate that the navigation of topics like these get deteriorated because of an unwritten guideline based on something completely unrelated to this topic. As I said, I expect to be able to find the creator of a fictional work by going to the footer of an article. I don't care in which navbox the creator's name appears. The A-Team doesn't need Cannell in its own infobox because the primary article already has his name in the footer. ~Mable (chat) 14:28, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I see your point, but I don't think anyone would ever sort out / agree on the wording to codify that in a guideline! Does the infobox in the top right hand corner not give you the creators' names? --Rob Sinden (talk) 15:02, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
