Józef Roman Utnicki (born in 1912 Jedlnia died in 1991 in Great Britain)- teacher, first lieutenant in Polish Independent Highland Brigade. One of the thirteen Poles awarded the Norwegian War Cross with Sword by the king of Norway Haakon VII.
Career
[edit]Utnicki came from Jedlnia, near Radom. He was the first lieutenant in Polish Independent Highland Brigade where he took command after captain Stanisław Nowicki. He commanded the First rifle company in the first battalion in Polish Independent Highland Brigade during the battle of Narvik in 1940. He was embared on ship „chenonceaux” under the command of registered colonel Benedykt Chłusewicz. Together with the First battalion he took part in the defense of Ankenes peninsula under the orders of the commander Bohusz-Szyszko. Utnicki was decorated with Silver Cross of Virtuti Militari V class and Norwegian War Cross with Sword (number 93) in 1942. after the end of the Second World War he emigrated to Great Britain where he died in 1991. his body has been transported to Poland.
