Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur on main page today! Well done Ambuj! -- 74.12.79.148 04:09, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Excimer Laser!!

Who exactly is the inventor of the excimer laser on the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur wiki page 1) Mani Lal Bhaumik (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mani_Lal_Bhaumik) or 2) Dr.Rangaswamy Srinivasan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excimer_laser). I'm just a curious corrector and hope someone with more experience responds...

Dr. Srinivasan is reported to have studied the impact and uses of Excimer laser, which I believe is different from invention. I am not sure how much is the contribution of Dr. Bhaumik. Technology advances are made in many steps, and possibly Dr. Bhaumik was involved in one of them. I do not have sufficient background to answer this, and a detailed analysis would require mode in-depth research into the history of Excimer lasers. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 19:56, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi! Image:Agasthiyamalai range and Tirunelveli rainshadow.jpg is a featured picture in commons. Does that mean it is of featured status in WP also? In that case, it should be listed in Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Featured and good content. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 05:35, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: You might be interested

Hehe, yeah I had recognized his name too :-) Would be sad if he is actually the real McCoy though. Naah, I'm sure it isn't him. This guy either coincidentally has the same name or is using the real guy's name as a pseudonym. Max - You were saying? 14:02, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Ah! I have seen the light. Read this. It seems the friendly folks over at IIPM have used famous names to cloak their identity earlier. Dang! Now I know why you posted the link on my page. I feel so bloody silly to have even given the benefit of the doubt to this guy! I should've known that these people are only capable of tricks like these. Oh well, I grow a little wiser every day. Cheers, Max - You were saying? 17:01, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Nice work on the IIPM article, dude. Things seem to have stabilized over there. Let's hope it's not a transitory tranquility. Max - You were saying? 20:39, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume II, Issue 2 - March 2007

Project News
  • Jimbo's visit to India and the WikiCamp in Chennai: Jimbo recently visited India in late February and early March on wiki work. This included a trip to a WikiCamp in Chennai. The one day conference attracted 300 participants from across India and beyond dealt with issues facing wikis ([1]). It was widely covered by the press, eg The Hindu( [2]), which cited the efforts of Bhadani (edit count), Sundar (leadership on Tamil Wikipedia) and Ganeshk (Creation of Ganeshbot to create articles on Indian towns from census figures). Ganeshk himself travelled from California to attend the conference.
  • Wikipedia Weekly 15: Wikipedia Weekly, a informal Wikipedians' program that purports to give "A weekly audio roundup of Wikipedia happenings with news, interviews and roundtable discussions" recently interviewed two prominent editors Rama's Arrow and Ragib(listen). The entire 34 minute interview was entirely about the world of Indian subcontinent wiki-happenings, and was the first episode which was not entirely dominated by discussion of wiki-politics and wiki-bureaucracy, with the host Witty lama praising the efficiency of the project and its proliferation of featured content. Rama's Arrow cited the team spirit, friendship and respect among project members in discussing its success and FA productivity, as well as discussing subcontinental wiki-conflict. Ragib talked also of his public campaign to raise awareness of the Bengali Wikipedia in his native Bangladesh, which has seen a 30-fold increase in article count over the past year.

This includes both translating articles from and to other-language Wikipedias as well as assisting contributors with non-English sources. The department aims to provide services in transliteration, formulating scripts for various languages, as well as translating articles from one language to another and validating sources in other languages to that of the encyclopedia article. Weather charts

Hi Ambuj,

Could you look into this problem? I know you fixed it once for another chart on IIT. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 04:30, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi. Could you take a look at these Chennai and Mumbai charts? I can't figure out what those black objects are, and the titles ("Chennai" and "Mumbai") are not displaying. Thanks. Saravask 04:05, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi Ambuj,

Its regarding the Technopark article. I requested for WP:TFA/R. The requested date was April 4th (the date was available). But, it dint appear on the main page on April 4. What could be the reason ? How can I make a successful TAF ? I would like to go for April 17 or 18th (both available). Can you please help me in this ???? -- Rajith Mohan (Talk to me..) 11:30, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

The portal needs immediate and continued attention. I don't understand automated technologies much. Please try to fix (if needed) and clearly state in the help page what is needed to update/maintain the portal. Portal:Current events/India/How to archive the portal is not very explicit. Once the automated portions are done, anyone can do the updating. I was trying to do the updating today and yesterday. Did to some extent. But was not sure about archiving process, so had to quit after some time fearing I may force some errors. Please try to do it if you have time, or you can ask someone else. Let me know if you think someone specifically so that I can get in touch with that user. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 17:47, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Andrews & Kurth, L.L.P. | Frank Andrews (Texan) | Frank Andrews (disambigutation)

My apologies for committing all 3 articles in parts over 2 hours instead of all at once. All are fixed now with references.

Frank Andrews (Texan) was an important player in US politics from 1803-1933 and I created a page for him.

His name was taken by U.S. General Frank M. Andrews, so I added (Texan) to his name, and added the disambiguation page.

Andrew's law firm also didn't have a page so I made one with a few paragraphs of their early history.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:IIT KGP Logo.PNG)

Thanks for uploading Image:IIT KGP Logo.PNG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:12, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

IIT KGP Motto

Hi Ambuj,

I was going through the IIT KGP Page on Wikipedia - Very informative.

Do you happen to know the meaning / translation of the motto: Yoga Karmasu Kaushālam ?

The meanings I have picked up on through google searches do not sound poetic enough - Perfection in action is Yoga and the like.

Do let me know if you come across something interesting. Many Thanks,

Fair use rationale for Image:NIFT_Logo.PNG

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:NIFT_Logo.PNG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 23:04, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
