Relaunching WikiProject Pittsburgh meetups

[edit]

You are receiving this message because you are a member of the WikiProject Pittsburgh. In the past we have discussed a meetup idea - let's see if we can make it a reality during the summer. Please see this thread for more information.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  23:21, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome back

[edit]

Hello ChrisGriswold, welcome back; glad to see you've returned. I am very pleased you're editing again. Acalamari 02:08, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I do have a question though: do you want me to remove or reduce the protection on your user page? Please tell me because I thought you may want to be able to edit your own user page again. If you don't want the protection removed or reduced, just ask me if you want any edits done to the page and I'll gladly do them for you; I'm here to help. :) Acalamari 02:45, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Acalamari. I would appreciate semi-protection for now. Also, congratulations on becoing an admin. You've turned into a fine editor. --Chris Griswold () 13:08, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've set your user page to edit=autoconfirmed, but I left move=sysop on, as I didn't see any reason for anyone to move your user page. Is that okay? Thanks for the congratulations too; I did take the advice you gave me in my first RfA, as well as all the advice you'd given me in months before. Acalamari 15:31, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome. I've missed you. Alientraveller 10:38, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome to take part in a discussion on the talk page on the necessity of the two sections which you deleted. Best, Fbv65edel / ☑t / ☛c || 17:21, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great. Thanks for starting the discussion. I already started one at Talk: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (film); you're free to comment there as well. --Chris Griswold () 17:25, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My bad, I had noticed it on the Deathly Hallows page first, and I hadn't seen that you had started it on the HBP page. Sorry for the double discussion. --Fbv65edel / ☑t / ☛c || 21:17, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Secret-Wars-Black-Costume.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG 14:53, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pittsburgh Barnstar

[edit]

I recently stumbled upon the "Pittsburgh Barnstar" (Image:Pgh-barnstar.png), which you contributed to Wikipedia:Personal_user_awards#General_awards. I lived in Pittsburgh for a year, and if there is one thing I associate with the city (besides the almost obscene friendliness of the population) it is steel. Shouldn't the star be steel, not brass or whatever yellow gold is used in the image? Just a suggestion. User:RideABicycle/Signature 21:11, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

I figured more people associate Pittsburgh with black and gold because we have three major sports teams that use those colors. --Chris Griswold () 02:39, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. There is a discussion about the Judd Winick article's length. Would you mind weighing in with your opinion on its Talk Page? Thanks. Nightscream 07:17, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I know you're away but you seem to have some experience with X-Universe and dealing with one particular user who has a tendency to revert things without dicussing them. It would be most appreciated if you could join in on the dicussion and give your opinion on the matter. For now I though, I think I'll leave the page as it is and wait for some more users to give their opinion before doing anything . Still though it'd be most appreciated if you could join in and bring some order. ExodusCloak 20:59, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Asking for advice re: edit war

[edit]

An editor by the name of MagicalHopStep has been undoing my additions to the article, Wild Arms 5 with little or no justification, even when I asked for a discussion of the matter. What steps should be taken now? -Wilfredo Martinez 04:35, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is false. Said user made an addition that included some false and uneccessary information. I fixed the errors and shortened it. He is the one who undid my changes, and I undid this ONE TIME AND ONE TIME ONLY. When he asked for reasons on the talk page, I gave them, but he chose to ignore them and threaten me-this can all be seen on the talk page. He also chose to ignore the other two individuals who agreed with me, and said he was reporting me, even though I have done nothing wrong.MagicalHopStep 05:15, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The information is correct, you have not proved it wrong, despite my having asked you to several times; it also is not unnecessary as several other RPG game articles include extended plot sections, I asked you why this one should be the exception and again you failed to do so. Your "changes" were nothing more than the removal of most my text, you didn't even leave a reason why or allowed time for other people to see the original section, that's why I reverted it and asked you to please not do so again without explanation, which is exactly what you then did. Your explanations amount to "because that's not the way it's done" despite that obviously not being the case. And I did not threaten you, I explained that if you continued doing these things I would have to report you. The other individuals who posted after you are suspected of being sock puppets. Anyone can see the events for themselves by reading the talk page. -206.248.77.29 18:23, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A long overdue barnstar

[edit]

Even though you haven't been as active in the comics-related articles as you used to be, I never forget your great contributions and what an outstanding job you always did in gently educating your fellow contributors, making well reasoned arguments, seriously contemplating the arguments of others, promoting projects guidelines and goals, and helping people resolve conflicts with a minimum of, well, conflict. I have generally stayed out of the barnstar dispensing business, but I got to thinking this week about all the people who have made my time editing at Wikipedia seem worthwhile. Looking back, I found that you really stood out in my memory of this time.

After two months of barely editing here because I was busy collecting data (including data at Comic-Con), I resumed editing and immediately bumped heads with someone who reminded me of all the reasons I had for not messing with Wikipedia. Others promptly spoke up for the three of us who'd been badmouthed by that someone, and that made me think, "You know, I really shouldn't wait until something that serious happens before I go about recognizing the people I regard well."

So here is my award to you:

Comics Communication Barnstar
For your outstanding efforts in speaking up for the truth, educating fellow editors, explaining project guidelines and goals, striving to resolve differences while keeping a level head, and generally facilitating communication about comics-related articles and between their contributors, it is my great pleasure to award you this Comics Communication Barnstar. Question from a new admin

[edit]

Hi, Chris. Don't know if you remember me, but I'm an admin now, and I wanted to ask you something. I remember once (hopefully correctly) that you blocked AceClassShadow for incivility. Although I greatly agree with the practice when sufficient warnings have been given, I was surprised by this, because it was the first time (and to date, the only time) that someone was blocked for this, as opposed to for vandalism. Does WP blocking policy provide for this, or were you merely taking the initiative in doing so? I'm just curious as what policy says about it, because I don't ever want to do that unless WP allows it. Thanks, and Happy Holidays. Nightscream (talk) 01:57, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Action Comics 837 - Luthor and the Memorials.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Action Comics 837 - Luthor and the Memorials.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 06:27, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure that there is an official definition. I would consider Pleasant Hills, Pennsylvania to be part of the South Hills. Respect Thread Conversions

I'm looking for folks to help convert Respect Threads to wiki formatting on Project Fanboy: WikiFans. Respect Threads, showcase scans of feats performed by comic book characters and have gained an audience on several comic book message boards. A few other wiki editors and myself are trying to convert them from the unprofessional look of a bunch of posts on a message board to the formatting common with WikiMedia wiki's. To view an example of what we're doing, here is a link to Respect Silver Surfer.

I was wondering if you might have time to contribute your comic book knowledge and/or scans of comic book characters performing feats, and help us out with our Respect Articles project?Millennium Cowboy (talk) 02:43, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Cancelled-comic-cavalcade-2.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Cancelled-comic-cavalcade-2.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 19:55, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Franklin, Pennsylvania flag.gif

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Franklin, Pennsylvania flag.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:21, 29 August 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 20:21, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pittsburgh event for Wikipedia's tenth anniversary

[edit]

Hi! Since you're a member of WikiProject Pittsburgh, I wanted to invite you to the Wikipedia Tenth Anniversary celebrations we're having in Pittsburgh on Saturday, January 15. During the daytime, we're going to be having a photo contribution drive where anyone can bring in their digital photos or prints and Wikipedians will teach people how to upload them and add them to articles, and maybe introduction to Wikipedia workshops as well. Then in the evening, we'll have fun at the Carson City Saloon. There will be free Wikipedia t-shirts and other goodies, as well. See the Pittsburgh meetup page for more details. I hope to see you there!--ragesoss (talk) 14:32, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

help appreciated!

[edit]

Hi ! I am new to wiki so i hope I'm typing this in the right spot! I'm reaching out to other users for help. As I understand it, I need to track down an established wiki editor to help me rid the first article i've created ("Stone and Stone")of the ugly box that was posted on top "This article has multiple issues....".

I know exactly how these complaints came about. In my ignorance on how wiki works, I gave myself the same nickname as the subject I was writing on and then a whole drama ensued, as it was assumed that I was my subject and that I was writing an autobiography! In truth, I am a huge comedy fan and biographer and was dipping my toes for the first time in wikipedia waters!

Any help or solutions you could provide me when you get the chance would be greatly appreciated! This poor little article certainly doesn't deserve such an ugly heading box because of my wiki-ignorance! Thank you in advance for your time! Wikipedia:WikiProject Pittsburgh is rolling out some new features (see our discussion at WT:PITTSBURGH). We are also trying to determine how many members are active. If you could go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Pittsburgh/Members and move your name from inactive to the active or semi-active group (depending on your interest in Pittsburgh issue and overall activity) groups, this would be great. Hopefully in a near future you'll also receive our first newsletter with various information on what we have been doing, and what useful tools are available. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 19:49, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Teaching with Wikipedia Workshop at CMU (Aug 15)

[edit]

Since you are one of the editors in the Category:Wikipedians by alma mater: University of Pittsburgh, I'd like to invite you to the Teaching with Wikipedia Workshop that will take place at CMU on Aug 15 (this workshop is open to general public, and is a joint imitative of CMU and Pitt). There will be another workshop held at Pitt in the Fall as well. It will cover how to include Wikipedia in one's course (WP:SUP) and also how to become a Wikipedia:Campus Ambassadors. Pennsylvania has currently only one ambassador (myself) and it would be great if we could recruit at least several more. Ambassadors help course instructors, showing them how Wikipedia works, and interact with students. Many current ambassadors come from the body of students, faculty and university staff; it is a fun adventure, and adds to one resume/CV, to boot :) If it sounds interesting, feel free to ask me any questions, or to come to the workshop.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 19:53, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of change

[edit]

Hello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. The effect of the change is that if you are inactive for a continuous three year period, you will be unable to request return of the administrative user right. This includes inactive time prior to your desysopping if you were desysopped for inactivity and inactive time prior to the change in policy. Inactivity is defined as the absence of edits or logged actions. Until such time as you have been inactive for three years, you may request return of the tools at the bureaucrats' noticeboard. @Acalamari: I wasn't sure what to make of the message to be honest. If they request an unblock then I guess it would be granted but I didn't think that I was being asked to do anything. SmartSE (talk) 07:47, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Smartse: alright, I should have been more specific. Sorry for that. The purpose of the message was to let you know that the reason of Chris's block does not exist anymore so you can unblock the user. It felt uncommon to request unblock on behalf of Chris so I was just letting you know that you can safely unblock them. Hope this helps. Thanks. Nomination for deletion of Template:Comics-trades

[edit]

Template:Comics-trades has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for discussion page. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 21:01, 16 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Arjun Malhotra requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, such as at Articles for deletion. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
