piri images

[edit]

hey @Launchballer have just added an image of piri to wikimedia commons that you might want to use, here is the direct link if you want to put it in the article somewhere, will leave it up to you though! Image George (talk) 20:31, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You don't need to ping me on my talk page as I'll get the message anyway. I plan on making that image the lead, except I'm still deciding what alt text to use (for that and the other new one) and I think both could use a crop. Plus I genuinely can't think of what those things on her arms are called, I've got as far as "A young blonde woman in a pink low-cut dress and fibula-length white fluffy boots holding with a microphone to her mouth." (Incidentally, I also went to the EartH gig; if you saw a tall, very fat guy in a black coat with a receding hairline and glasses at the back, that was almost certainly me.)--Launchballer 10:17, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
All good! Also I'd probably go with some variation of 'fluffy wrist cuffs' or something like that as similar things appear on google when you type that in. Don't think I spotted you at the gig either but funny knowing we were both there haha, I was barricade and she handed me the mic for for the song vote on what she played in the set! A well deserved barnstar for you, Launchballer!

Thought you should definitely be awarded this after all your help with getting the James Marriott article to GA, it looks amazing and he still goes on about the fact that he has a wikipedia page in his videos to this day!

Mindful of the banner at the head of your page, please may I ask you for two things:

  1. Please do not remove AFC review history. It is important for future reviewers to know what has gone before
  2. Please improve the accuracy of your edit summaries

I hope you are on the way back to health 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 11:23, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't plan on hanging around for a reviewer as I've already proved notability. (I was about to move it to mainspace before having to drop what I was doing to head out.) Your comment regarding my edit summaries is a fairer cop, and I will endeavour to be more careful.--Launchballer 13:01, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

HELP

[edit]

Hello Baller, can you please help me on how to complete a QPQ? I seriously don't know how to do it or how it works. dxneo (talk) 12:20, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Dxneo: QPQs are incurred when users have more than five nominations. [1] says you have four, Kenny Solomon, Nandipha Magudumana, Chihiro (song), and Tyla (album). Which is your fifth?--Launchballer 13:14, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm planning on nominating Tyla next and it just occurred to me that if I don't learn then it's the end of the line for me. I wanted to nominate "Trust Issues", but I got to save the last one for Tyla haha. So please help. dxneo (talk) 13:29, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Dxneo: Fairly detailed instructions are at WP:DYKRI; I suggest that the first thing you should do is install WP:DYKCHECK. I suggest starting with Dus Bahane, since a) it's the oldest unreviewed nomination, b) it's a song article and not far off Chihiro, and c) I'm already watchlisting the page, so if you make any mistakes I can come in after and correct them. The problem you have is that you're liable for a QPQ on your sixth nomination, even if you gave an 'extra' one for your fifth. So you've got two choices really; gamble that Talk:Tyla (South African singer)/GA1 finishes in a week, or use the final freebie on Trust Issues.--Launchballer 14:21, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Dxneo: Or you can totally ignore the 7-day period for Trust Issues and wait until the clock restarts when it passes GA. When do you plan on getting back to Talk:Milkie Way/GA1?--Launchballer 15:30, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies, somehow I typed in my response but forgot to hit "reply". I honestly don't know why I'm this lazy nowadays, normally I tackle two GAs per day. I will get it done soon, I promise.

About DYK, I just don't have a nice hook for "Trust Issues", but I wanna gamble it. I hope you'll walk me through the QPQ process. Is there a way I can email you or message you privately? dxneo (talk) 15:42, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would rather keep everything here. I was going to suggest "that Trust Issues did not make the UK Singles Chart due to a technicality", i.e. the no more than three songs rule, but I don't see how the cited source backs it up. I suggest words to the effect of "that although "Trust Issues" was released in 2011, it did not appear on streaming services until 2019".--Launchballer 15:57, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That footnote was a copy & paste from Drake singles discography. I will tweak it a bit Thank you. dxneo (talk) 16:16, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and the reason for it to not have charted back in 2011 was because it wasn't officially released, it was only available for free download on the OVO blog. dxneo (talk) 16:27, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

On 13 August, Bach's cantata was 300 years old, and the image one. The cantata is an extraordinary piece, using the chorale's text and famous melody more than others in the cycle. October music

[edit]
story · music · places

You may remember Maryvonne Le Dizès, thank you for promoting her to prep, - my story today as on 28 August. Some September music was unusual: last compositions and eternal light, with Ligeti mentioned in story and music. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:24, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Today I remember an organist who was pictured on the Main page on his birthday ten years ago, and I found two recent organ concerts to match, - see top of my talk --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:01, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Salute (musician)

[edit]

Hi Thomas

I'm relatively new to Wikipedia and I am very interested in music, particularly the genre that Nyajo excels in. The edits I made to the article were interesting with plenty of references. Why did you revert everything I added to the article? I have some more interesting content so I am hoping you will allow me to improve the article.

Aaphc (talk) 04:18, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits largely fell into one of the following categories:
They removed content previously removed by two accounts, one of which was the subject (who shouldn't be editing that article as they have a conflict of interest) and one of which had been blocked as a sockpuppet, though I'll accept that if you genuinely aren't either you couldn't have known that.
They added references that largely did not contain the stuff they were being used for.
They cited a self-published source that made claims about living people, which is inadmissible.
I'll admit to having an itchy trigger finger regarding this particular article due to its history of vandalism (and because I really, really don't like it when users add clumps of references to articles), so have put back in one fact that did check out.--Launchballer 09:40, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ballerina

[edit]

If Marina Kondratyeva is supposed to appear on DYK without the image (which says more than 1000 words, and is the only source of Giselle being her key role), I'll withdraw the nomination. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:42, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Gerda, the decision to promote an article to the picture slot is the promoter's discretion, and as much as we all like our hooks to be in the picture slot whenever possible, there's only so many image hooks that can compete for an image slot. An nomination having a picture is no guarantee that a hook will get the image slot, an experience we have had at some point. I understand your disappointment but please keep in mind that being featured on DYK at all is already an accomplishment, the image is just a bonus. On the other hand, telling promoters or other editors that you will withdraw the nomination if you do not get the image slot may be interpreted as begging and thus may leave a bad impression to others. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 22:27, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
None of what you said - and I see it only now - is new. What's different is that in this specific case, the hook is meaningless without the image. There are two ways to solve that: 1) take the image, because in small size the quality problem is less important, and this is a rare historic document. When did we have the last image of a classical ballerina? 2) Make a hook that mentions Giselle as the role with which she is identified. Without one of the solutions, I'll withdraw. I have had enough hooks of which I'm ashamed. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:27, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll be honest, I promoted for no reason other than it was the largest nom on Approved and there was a gap in a prep set. I do know that @Theleekycauldron: objected to the image at the nom on quality grounds.--Launchballer 22:56, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
i did oppose adding the image in the nomination, and I would oppose adding it now, yeah. theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 08:57, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As it stands, we have a hook that tells about a lady's long service to an institution, no more. Sorry, I find it boring and dry, for a creative artist who also shaped the dancing of generations of others. The hook doesn't offer any personal touch, and is factually wrong (she served as ballerina for the shorter time). It's some impressive quantity, no quality. Better no DYK than that. With the image, all these flaws could be accepted. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:15, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To be honest and also frank, insisting that the hook receive the image slot, to the point of threatening to withdraw the nomination, could reflect negatively on you among other editors. It could even be perceived as being demanding. Again, it is up to promoter discretion if a hook is promoted with the image or not, and if it isn't, the decision has to be respected even if disappointing. If anything, the threats may only make editors more disinclined to put it in the image slot given the bad look and perhaps a reluctance to reward such behavior. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 11:19, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't insist in an image slot. With a good hook, the image is not needed. This hook, without the visible context of her artistry, doesn't do justice to her. You explained author vs. reader, but the crucial thing is the subject. You can't get me behind saying too little about an outstanding woman. I'd rather be silent. She was mentioned In the news. She found interest just by her name. Why did I even bother? Because the pic makes me happy every time I see it. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:45, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. The nomination can't currently be moved into the image slot unless there is consensus to override my objection based on image quality. Given that, Gerda Arendt, are you going to withdraw this nomination? theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 02:28, 14 November 2024 (UTS)
yes, per hook quality --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:04, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Slag Wars: The Next Destroyer

[edit]

On 13 November 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Slag Wars: The Next Destroyer, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that The Cock Destroyers (pictured) released a trans-inclusive sex education video for Netflix before hosting Slag Wars: The Next Destroyer? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/The Cock Destroyers. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Slag Wars: The Next Destroyer), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
