Map and Whitley Castle

[edit]

Sorry to come back to you on this one, but how exactly does a map demonstrate the claim made in this sentence? The relative position of a fort and a road might mean anything; the inference that the one was to guard the other is WP:OR unless there is a written statement in the "guide" to that effect, which there could be, but if so we need an actual "|quote=" and a "page=" in the citation. If not, the citation is not adequate and we must have either a "citation needed" tag or a "not in citation given". Actually I can't see why the claim is needed and suggest it might be better removed altogether, but I will await your reply. Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:07, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have located a copy of the map. It does not contain a suitable text to prove the claim made, which I have therefore removed as speculation. Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:16, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

You added a word that calls doubt into the reason the underground is called the Tube. In my research in both Institution of Civil Engineering archives and published works by engineers of his day attributed the name to his method of tunneling. Copperthwaite specifically stated that the public named it "the tube because of the iron cylindrical tunnel apparent during construction".

Why do you decide to call doubt into the origin which was well documented in those days? Ashattock (talk) 11:16, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
