Re:Biography

Hi! Thanks a lot for reminding. I have been busy for pretty some time. The time I am now in Wiki, usually spending for Delhi, which is in FAC now. It will be greatly helpful if you can change the biography(and other stuffs, too, like selected article) periodically, as you are pretty active in the portal. May I request you to do the same? I shall of course be here and try to update. I do not think there would be any difficulties if two or more persons are involved in this activity. Thanks. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:25, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

You may be interested to have a look at this that I submitted for DYK today. Its not Bengal-related though! Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:27, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Haha! "Your mango article" ! haha! anyway, I will definitely have a look into these details of the articles you mentioned. For the time being, you can do with some article which do not have such problems. I am really sorry that I am unable to do much in the portal right now :( In fact, I had some plans to go for featured portal status. But could not. First, lack of some technical knowledge (like auto-updating) though those could be achieved with some works. Second, and more importantly, lack of time. We need more people. Unfortunately, very people interested in Bengal topic is available as of now. I cant remember more than a few like you, Bakaman, ppm, Antorjal, Ragib (last two are virtually inactive). There were some more people from Kolkata and West Bengal even about 6 months back. I wonder why peoplw are not joining!!! Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:05, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Bye the way, please have a look at Delhi FAC too. We should make Delhi an FA! Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:07, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: District templates

Hi! Thanks for creating the templates. I may drop in now and then to check in missing entries (like the map in the Bankura template). I first came across your edits in Chandannagar. Are you from that place? We've a professor in Saskatoon, Dr. Soumya Niyogi who is also from there. Keep up the good job. And greetings on Republic Day, belated. --Victor 04:21, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Hiii

Hello Sir, how are you? I have become very infrequent in wikipedia nowadays. Could not update portal:West Bengal regularly. I request you to try to update the contents sometimes. I'll try soon to incorporate automatic updating in the portal. In fact, there were 2 or 3 featured picture candidates which need to be given the status of featured picture in the portal. Unfortunately that work has not been done either. I'll have a look soon. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 05:30, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the compliment on Ram Brahma ! By the way, I finally get to meet the editor behind the spate of Bengali biographies. You should never have let on that you own a Bengali who's who. I might bug you for references later. ray 09:51, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

By the way, I rarely do self nominations. I ll reserve all nominations for the article I write and re-write Gerald Durrell. If you like the Alipore Zoo or Ram Brahma Sanyal article, feel free to nominate DYK snippets. ray 09:55, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Wow

Wow! this Legendary personalities in Bengal is excellent, very nice read. However I have some doubts over the name of the article. "Legendary" may encompass many more. I can understand the sense in which the word has been used. However, it is difficult to name the article in some other way :) Let it remain as it is. Really interesting read. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 17:33, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

I did not start many place articles, may be some. Mainly just stubs. Ganeshbot now comes really handy for creating uncreated place articles. Thanks for improving so many articles.
Regarding "Selected Articles" in West Bengal portal, right now all the SAs are Featured articles, so no problem. Elevating any other article to SA level is tough, unless very good effort is put. You can at least continue with biographies. If and when I get time, will try to find out some more potential Selected Articles for the portal. Right now, I've put Delhi in FAC once more. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 07:27, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

B K Tikader

To echo Dwaipayan, Legendary personalities in Bengal is a very interesting read - just crawling with quiz questions ! I ll put it on my memo list ! By the way, I ve started yet another article with little or no data, about which I know precious little except a Bengali autobiography I read when I was small. Would your Who's who have an entry for Benoy Krishna Tikader ? ray 08:55, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Yes I regularly watch the It's new section in Indian Notice Board, and I've seen the extyensive amount of work you put in. Thanks again. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 04:44, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
Don't worry, it isn't very difficult (I had to learn it myself last year, and I picked it up fairly quickly, even though I'm usually horrible with templates and things like that)! But we had a very good base to work with, thanks to Dwaipayan and yourself. Sd31415 (talk contribs) has also done lots of work on it. Hopefully it will be ready for featured within the next few days! Re: WP Bangladesh tags

Hi, The purpose of the tagging is to list all articles about which, WP Bangladesh members may be interested. We took the tag structure from WP India and other such project tags. It also helps in assessment. Once a talk page is tagged, an automated bot running every night updates a list (of articles in various classes or unassessed). This is shown in Wikipedia:WikiProject Bangladesh (right side box). So, our members can evaluate articles, and then take necessary actions later on.

It is ok if you find articles about which WP bd members may be interested, and add the tags. As mentioned above, that will add the articles to our assessment list.

Thanks

The award was well deserved. :D Regarding the Did you know section of the portal, the subpage is on my watchlist, but you can update the DYK column easily. On the next available number, create the subpage (naming it Portal:West Bengal/Did you know/Number) and put:
*...Interesting fact?
Then, go back to the Did you know subpage and place at the bottom {{/Same number as above}}. Then go to the top and update the {{Random subpage}} template. For example, if there was 34 DYKs and now there is 36 DYKs, go to {{Random subpage|page=Portal:West Bengal/Did you know|start=26|end=34|seed=13}} and update it to be {{Random subpage|page=Portal:West Bengal/Did you know|start=26|end=36|seed=13}}. And then the new DYKs will start to show up! Regards, S.D. ¿п? § 04:16, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Mrs S Tagore

Can you please take a look at the spelling of the name of the wife of Satyendranath Tagore. It seems to differ slightly at different places in Satyendranath Tagore :

  • Gyanadanandini in In 1877, he sent Gyanadanandini Devi to England
  • Gynandnanadini in Back in India, Satyendranath took Gynandnanadini Devi to Mumbai
  • Gynandanandini in Breaking all traditional rules, Gynandanandini Devi accompanied her
  • Gynandanadini in After his marrriage he found in Gynandanadini Devi
  • Gynadanandini in Gynadanandini Devi contributed in some unique ways also.

Hello! I have tried a litle bit. But could not do much as I am short in time right now. However, I have one request. Please create an article on Gyanadanandini Devi. It was thrilling to know about her. And it would make a great DYK. So many things! The sari wearing style, the use of undergarments, the birthday celebrations, the first lady to accompany husband in a party — so much. Please make one article on this great lady about whom most of us hardly know anything. Thanks for your great effort in creating so many biography articles. Thanks a lot. A note (choto mukhe baro katha !)

Going through many of your created articles (especially those that gets readied for DYK), I find a recurring tendency that does not follow Wikipedia: Manual of Style. According to Wikipedia:Footnotes, "the ref tag should be directly after the punctuation mark without an intervening space". Though I generally correct this, sometime some footnotes may be missed. It would be great if you place ref superscripts according to the Wikipedia:Footnotes while creating the article.

I will go through Hara Chandra Ghosh now. Have updated Satyendranath Tagore in West Bengal and India portals' DYKs. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 11:06, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Information and plan

Hello! I have started working on Jagadish Chandra Bose. As usual, I don't have any printed reference. So I am looking forward to you for providing some printed references. The article does not have a good structure yet. Let me build up a good skeleton. You can add references wherever you please and also contribute in writing. Our final goal is featured status. However, we don't need to hurry. Small advancements are enough to build up a final respectable article. Your help is sought. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 21:02, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Have added a bit on J.C. Bose. Problematic would be the research part. There are materials available on his research in the web, but I have to read them thoroughly in order to understand as far as I can and then only write. Will do that later, after my exams. Meanwhile you can add materials, especially on his life. His career and research are intricately associated, if not the same! I could not find much info on his career as teacher in Presidency College. Can you help? Also, info on 'Abtakto' and his other works are needed. His friendship with Tagore and other luminaries of the age should also be added. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 04:08, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

I have started working on the article Education in Bangladesh. It was in an extremely bad shape. The last few edits were turning it into a motley hotchpotch of text, link and image for private university/English medium agenda-pushers. Even without that the article had little content. I have began by putting in an enormous amount of fresh text, and even more massive amount of resource links (Banglapedia, government sites and downloadable pdf links). Now the real work should begin. Would you lend a hand in this? I can't do it alone. Do you have anyone else in mind who might help? That person doesn't need to be Bangladeshi. Balurghat, et al

Hi. Saw your message. Sorry, could not reply earlier as I was out of station for a few days. As you can see on my user page, that I am working on (or will shortly work on) the Balurghat article. As the backlog page says, the list of what I want to do has grown quite long :) As per the list, I will take up the Balurghat article, once I am done with the Alizée article.

Well, town and cities articles are not really my cup of tea. But I am interested in articles for Balurghat and others in Dakshin Dinajpur, as I am from there. I have enough information (and referencible material) for Balurghat, but I am afraid not enough for the rest (only what I know of, but me knowing is not referencible, is it?). But, we can definitely take up the articles and keep on improving and over time we will put references in those. As for the towns you mentioned, lets start the articles as a stub, and editors familiar with the area can chip in as they can. I could gather more information about them but my problem is that I wont be going home before May - so any serious work on those articles have to wait till then.

Also, what classifies a place as a town or a city? Indian Census Law classifies an area with a population of 5000+ as urban area. Also, 10,000+ population area as notified area, 20,000+ as town and having a municipal committee or a municipal corporation as a city. Balurghat does not have a municipal corporation, but has a municipal committee. So, can we say it is a city without any reference? Or do we need a copy of the official order before we can claim so? Have you any idea regarding this? I wish I were in Balurghat so I could resolve this immediately. :) Anyways, looking forward to a great collaboration with you. --soumtalk 04:05, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

(ii) Ram Mohan Roy, the father of medern India, should be a featured article. Please give it a thought. -- Seejee 15:22, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello

Hello sir! Thanks for adding the information on J.C. Bose. Hope it would be ready by 1 to 2 months. I have been busy for past few days, as I have an exam tomorrow (30 March). Will look into the article after the exam. Also I wish we could improve University of Calcutta. I guess you must have loads of information on CU, right? I started to reorganise the history section a few days back, and did till 1900s. Please have a look. Also pending is work on Bengal. However, Bengal is in much better state, and could be run in FAC after some combination of statistics and minor issues.

Amartya is really doing great job in Kaziranga, it should go in FAC soon. As of now, two more India-related articles are being readied for FAC - Rashtrakuta dynasty and Climate of India. So, hope to see a lot of Indian activities in FAC in near future :) In fact, Himachal Pradesh is expected to be ready by late May. Just saw India national cricket team in FAC!
