Sports in Saskatchewan
Can you improve/edit/update this new article please? I see you have created an article about lacrosse in SK. TXS SriMesh | talk06:05, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
Wow! Your improvements to this article were absolutely awesome...!!! I will add references to the paragraphs over the next while. Started somewhat in this process already. This is truly a field you have contributed a lot in. I hope you don't mind that I started the article with links to your already started articles to get it going. Again, Thank you!!!! SriMesh | talk18:27, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
Hello again...I tried to select references that wouldn't go away in a few weeks. They might not go into all your comments, but they help to verify that there was a (defunct or current) team in this league in this year and set up of league and that sort of info. My interest currently is attending football games or other sports games. I am not too much of a TV sports fan, but I love live games -roughriders, hilltops, huskies esp, some storm and blade games.... I also do history and genealogy, so, I too have to dig up my notes, as they say which teacher implemented the first SK track and field day, which teacher implemented the first SK basketball game and team. The Mendel Art Gallery/Kinsmen park area was once a horse track, so I have to dig up info about that and the horse racing of the French counts. I think the community local history books of 1981 that tell of one room school house sports and community events suggest that the kids played football means that they played soccer and they called it football. This part is confusing which sport they would be referring to at the turn of the century - early 1900's...will have to do more research about which sport... soccer/football it was. so will improve the history section over time....as far as history goes...most early 1900 sports were not full of equipment, and outdoors (no early arenas) as the immigrant families fashioned what they could-homemade not much brought over from the home country, and monies went to proving the homesteads and getting settled. It was also interesting those small town kids who would excel at sports in the early 1900's especially baseball to win some much needed monies to bring back home. ... but need to find sources. Thank you again for everything, you are a genius! SriMesh | talk04:22, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
An Invite to join Saskatchewan WikiProject
Hi, you are graciously extended an invitation to join the Saskatchewan WikiProject! The Saskatchewan WikiProject is a fairly new WikiProject. We are a group of editors who are dedicated to creating, revising, and expanding articles, lists, categories, and Wikiprojects, to do with anything Saskatchewan.
Thanks for uploading Image:Lithium.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
Hi, would you consider to rename the Image, because there are several Wiki-Projekts (also Commons) using this name for the Element Lithium - Thanx 80.228.182.53 (talk) 20:24, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
SJHL
Why bother having both WP Canada and WP Saskatchewan templates on the SJHL talk page? Seems like overkill. Also, the SJHL teams would be served more appropriately with the Sask template than the Canada one in my opinion. DMighton (talk) 02:13, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
I figure that both are different Wikiprojects, so you might as well include them in both. Plus it adds to the articles listing for each. I see no harm in having both. If its that big of a deal you can remove the Canadian one, but it does fall into the scope of both projects. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 03:15, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
I always figured an article is best served by its most direct project group... in the case of Canadian hockey.... the Ice Hockey WP and the "Province" WP seemed to be sufficient... just my thoughts. DMighton (talk) 22:59, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
I figure the more people contributing to an article the better it gets. So if you place it in several groups, the article can always improve. But like I say if you feel its inappropriate to do so, you can definitely remove them. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 06:12, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
Blackstrap Ski Hill
Hi. Thanks for your contribution of Blackstrap Ski Hill. Sounds like an interested project indeed. I noticed that the last sentence of the article was similar to the text on [1], so I re-worded it. Please remember that contributions to Wikipedia must be original - copying from other sources in any quantity is not allowed. Please read WP:COPYRIGHT for reasons why. Again, thanks for your contribution. - CosmicPenguin (Talk) 03:36, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
The Riders are terrible for not updating their roster. In fact, the entire time he's been with the Riders he was never listed on Riderville.com However, take a look at CFL.ca's transactions for the Riders today, you will noticed that it says SGD next to his name. I've been following the Riders transactions all season (as I update the Riders Wikipedia page) and when a player is released the CFL transaction shows a UNS next to the name. When a player is transferred to the Active Roster they use SGD.Shootmaster 44 (talk) 06:28, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
Read WP:NOR and you'll learn quite a bit. I am in the process of trying to take the page to featured status, and it will never reach that with the records, so they have to go. -- Scorpion042216:42, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Updating rosters
Here's a hint on updating rosters: As opposed to deleting the inactive player, use comment marks to hide it! Insert "<!---" before the player, and then "--->" after the player. It's a big time saver. Have a look at Hartford Wolf Pack for an example. Flibirigit (talk) 08:18, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
The Assessment Department is new. Please help to assess via quality and importance Saskatchewan articles by using the parent Canada wikiproject template{{WikiProject Canada |class= |importance= | sk=yes }} along with the Assessment guidelines.
See also wikiproject template for other work groups with their wikiprojects as well as provinces which can be added to the Canadian template
The new template and assessment table worklist is produced periodically and was created by Arctic Gnome. Thank you very much! Please take a moment to send an award or other recognition
New Template Saskatchewan
AT Bot requests, another very kind user has also offered to help with the transition process (Thank you also to Ρх₥α )
The request conglomerated together the following tasks to help show the quantity / quality of Saskatchewan related articles:
tag all articles in Category:Saskatchewan and all of its subcategories with {{WikiProject Canada |sk = | class=| importance=}}and if{{WikiProject Canada | class=| importance=}} already exists, then can just |sk=yes be added to the Canada template?
all articles which have a Saskatchewan related stub Saskatchewan-politician-stub / Saskatchewan-stub / Saskatchewan-geo-stub to be tagged in their talk pages for wikiproject Saskatchewan and be classified as stub as such: {{WikiProject Canada |sk =yes | class=stub| importance=}}
add GA or FA to to the class parameter of {{WikiProject Canada}} articles if any other template has such a parameter value on the talk page.
add stub to the class parameter if a stub tag is present on the article page.
Replace the old tag {{Saskatchewanproject}} with the new parent wikiproject tag: {{WikiProject Canada |sk =yes | class=| importance=}}and if{{WikiProject Canada | class=| importance=}} already exists, then can just |sk=yes be added to the Canada template?
add to the class area FL for any Featured-class lists articles if any other template has such a parameter value on the talk page.
add to the class area List if the Saskatchewan related item in category:Saskatchewan articles if any other template has such a parameter value on the talk page.

Develop quality articles. Increase the amount of good and Featured articles about Saskatchewan related content.
Develop top importance articles about Saskatchewan such as those about crown corporations. the provincial government and its several departments. From the Saskatchewan wiki meeting held back on 23 June 2007 it was discussed to develop an article on Health in Saskatchewan, and to improve to feature status articles: Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Regina.
The University of Saskatchewan became a good article to celebrate the 2007 anniversary of campus, and should now have a peer reveiw to continue on to becoming a feature article. The List of University of Saskatchewan alumni was developed to assist this article and help would be appreciated providing citations for each entry, and to help add to the list.
What's New?
What's New?: The new articles are now being identified by a robot, and new members are being invited. Improve articles of Saskatchewan quality which have been tagged. Some of these are listed [[2]] and have been compiled with AWB.
Outreach
Create a Saskatchewan Roads and Highways outreach template to help new members become informed about the presence of this project online.
Highway Picture Template
Just as there is only one image needed for upload for Saskatchewan locator maps, and then various towns can be updated upon this image. So, too there should be a highway picture template, so that the various numbered highways 1, 33, 34, 58, 913, 914, etc can all have their own image without needing to create a bizzilion numbered images online.
2004 Election
Our 2004 Saskatchewan election has resulted in an amazing number of politician biographies coming online! This was an awesome achievement, and something to be proud of!
Qyd (talk·contribs) and Arctic.gnome (talk·contribs) are editors of a wide variety of Canadian related articles, and of note as of this date is the enormous amount of work they have undertaken to help amalgamate all the various provincial wikiprojects and Canadian sub projects into one umbrella assessment department. This unique assessment department means that Saskatchewan related articles can be assessed for their own provincial merit, and also belong to the Canadian wikiproject as well. It also means that editors from both Canada wikiproject and Saskatchewan wikiproject can unite in their efforts to provide banners and ratings to articles. This will result in a huge improvement in quality on wikipedia, resulting in Saskatchewan's spotlight award for Qyd (talk·contribs). January 2008 newsletter Please pop into the Spotlight Department and read all the brief introductory Wikipedia Saskatchewan bio. Congratulations are sent out to Qyd (talk·contribs)] and Arctic.gnome (talk·contribs) at this time.

Looking forward toward more contributions from you! Happy Editing!!
Just as panic begins to settle in as to what in the world the next newsletter should mention, new areas of development and growth come about. The coming year of 2008 should provide not only more Saskatchewan articles, but also more articles with higher ratings with the assistance of more editors, and a new assessment department umbrella. The highways and roads project has given a good base for development, and to strengthen the presence and notability of roads and highways and effort is being called upon to help these articles improve, now that they too are under the assessment umbrella.

Saskatchewan Roads and Highways
Saskatchewan Roads and Highways
The WikiProject Canada Roads is undergoing an overhaul. It is aiming to produce some Good articles and Featured articles of highway content pertaining to Canada, and for the Saskatchewan Roads and Highways for Saskatchewan highways. As Saskatchewan is still a work in progress this is a challenging endeavour for as the guidelines are followed as laid out at either Highway wikiproject, they become red link farms because wikilinked articles have not been developed regarding the communities, provincial and regional parks and rural municipalities which the highways meander through. Please keep apprised of the progress, and if any Saskatchewan articles rise above stub we will list it on the main page.
There is also discussion started about assessment and navigation boxes on the talk page. Please peek in to add any comments you may have.
Recently articles Saskatchewan Highway 1, 33, 34, 58, 913, 914 have been improved, but they need more help so they can become articles nominated as Good articles. Please help out if you are able, even to create community and rural municipality articles for these Highway articles would be an enormous help.

Article Improvement Drive
Article Improvement Drive: Articles can now be assessed, and this is the showing for top rated GA and FA class articles as well as stub articles. Please help rate articles, and contribute to improved status.

There are currently no Saskatchewan related articles waiting to be assesed for feature article... :-( FACs.
Please help B class articles move into GA class and GA class articles move toward Feature status.
Add content to stub articles to improve their status.
In December there were over 797 articles which needed template changes from the original Saskatchewan talk page banner to the new Canada - provincial talk page banner. This has been completed!!!
Wikiproject Saskatchewan now has 0.5% FA articles 0.22% GA articles, about 5% B class articles, about 35% Start class articles and 68% stub class articles.
Saskatchewan related articles contribute 1,799 / 19,566 articles, or 9.19 % of Canadian related articles!!!
Please help to tag articles! On the assessment page are the actual articles listed which have been tagged with Canadian projects and Saskatchewan content. The result is...please, if you read this, help to tag Saskatchewan sports articles with both Saskatchewan, and Canadian sports project templates checked off as yes! Some sports articles may also need the appropriate general sports wikiproject talk template or a Wikiproject biography talk template as well.
There are 6 articles written which overlap both the 1850 tagged Saskatchewan and the 870 tagged Canadian Music articles.
Canadian Federal Government articles which relate to Saskatchewan are the following 14 articles, a couple of which are rated FA.
The most tagged articles are Saskatchewan communities. Saskatchewan Communities & Neighbourhoods comprise 551 articles - tagged with both the Saskatchewan communities and neighbourhoods template, as well as the new Canadian - provinces template.
The Portal Saskatchewan peer review has produced some excellent suggestions, many of which have been enacted. Some of the portal categories should be added to Saskatchewan wikiproject such as the instructions on how to add content to a box portal concept.
To go forward to apply for PORTAL feature status, 10 articles, 10 biogrphies, 10 images which are qualified as good or feature should be added to the portal in the various areas.

There has been numerous new recognized content, so much that it's too time-consuming to sift through the "trophy cases" on WP:HOCKEY. Some interesting achievements:
2016 NHL Draft has been newly created and has immediately become a GA status article.
We are working to create a new task force within the WikiProject to deal with topics related to the Pittsburgh Penguins. It hasn't been created yet; but it aims to expand articles based on former and current Pittsburgh Penguins players and articles. Good luck!
The original featured topic drive, initiated by Scorpion0422, has concluded succesfully. National Hockey League awards is now a featured topic, with 24 articles in total. Of them, 20 are featured lists, one is a featuredarticle, and the other three are trophy articles that were too short to become featured lists. Eight users signed up to help out, shown here. The next Featured Topic hasn't been decided upon, and the ideas and organization for it fell apart. If you have any ideas, don't hesitate to share them at WT:HOCKEY.
More editors are needed to help out with the newsletter. The newsletter creator doesn't have an infinite nor perfect supply of ideas, and thus he might omit some interesting news.

New highway change for Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan adopted the International metric system in 1971, and even though school trustees would like the imperial system returned to the classrooms, there is a new change intended for Saskatchewan. The latest news to hit the province of Saskatchewan is to adapt the new traffic directionality concept that Saskatchewan drivers will undertake. As of the beginning of the month, drivers will begin driving on the left side of the road rather than the right side. Which Side Of The Road To Drive On? Left Or Right For more information on changes to Saskatchewan Highways.
Prince Albert is one of the Saskatchewan city articles which has been growing by leaps and bounds. Many communities are being created and are picked up by the new article robot. Please help to tag these and all community articles with the new assessment talk page banner at Template:WikiProject Canada. *Stub class just barely introduces the topic, much is missing.
Start class gives a bit more knowledge but it shows one of these to expand upon a stub article;
a particularly useful picture or graphic
multiple links that help explain or illustrate the topic
a subheading that fully treats an element of the topic
multiple subheadings that indicate material that could be added to complete the article
B-Class checklist
1. It is suitably referenced, and all major points are appropriately cited.
2. It reasonably covers the topic, and does not contain major omissions or inaccuracies.
3. It has a defined structure, including a lead section and one or more sections of content.
4. It is free from major grammatical errors.
5. It contains appropriate supporting materials, such as an infobox, images, or diagrams.
