ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:47, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

RFDs

[edit]

Hello, Significa liberdade,

You relisted a lot of RfD discussions the other day and I think several of them could just have been closed so I closed them. RFD generally has a low participation rate and you might only have 2 or 3 editors who voice an opinion. Try also to keep 3 relistings to a minimum, there are editors who believe that deletion discussions should not be relisted more than twice so I try to only relist a third time if it looks like this will draw in more participation. You might just have to close some discussions as No consensus. Thank you for your contributions and good luck with your admin work. Liz Read! Talk! 07:46, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Across Mt. Wati

[edit]

Why did you delete the article without a reason? The problem cited was enough references and I added them...Aikolugbara (talk) 04:35, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Aikolugbara! The Across Mt. Wati article was deleted following a deletion discussion earlier this month wherein the community determined that this film is not notable according to Wikipedia's guidelines. If you disagree with this conclusion, please bring the issue to deletion review. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 17:04, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay! I understand your point of view, but from a WikiProject Uganda standpoint, questions will be asked why the movie is not reviewed? I did my part in good faith because of what I know, but if the movie is not notable from your side, no more disagreements. I put the film in my Sandbox instead... Template you might find useful

[edit]

Meant to show this to you a few days ago, but I saw this edit[1] and figured you'd fid the Creative Commons text attribution notice template useful. If you add it through the insert template tool, there's a nice drop down window of all the compatible license options. Hope this helps! GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 08:06, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, GreenLipstickLesbian!! That particular draft article had been declined for copyright violations twice, even though the "copyright issues" were with MNopedia, which is under CC by SA 3.0, so I was trying to find a way to make that clear for future reviewers. I looked around for an easy way to add a Creative Commons attribution and couldn't find a good way to do it. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 17:07, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was going to make some comment about how either of the text attribution notices we added should have tripped a message in Earwig letting the reviewer know that the article claimed to be from a compatibly licensed source, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Hmmm. For an example of what I'm talking about, Template:Source-attribution trips a warning when you use Earwig on the Dick Cheney article. I think this might be an issue with draftspace though, because the Template:PD-notice using Draft:Rocky Reach AVA doesn't show a message either.
Sorry to bother you @Chlod, but have I a) guessed what's going on and b) is this intentional? I could have sworn Earwig used to pick up these templates in draft space. Have I lost my mind? GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 00:20, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm answering my own questions here.Template:CCBYSASource doesn't trip the Earwig warning, even in mainspace. (As evidenced by running checks on Lithuanian Armed Forces or Mammal) Parkinson's disease) uses the creative commons attribution notice template, and doesn't trip the warning. Fishing vessel has Template:Free-content attribution, which trips the filter, and a creative commons notice template, which does not. John F. Kennedy uses PD-notice and does not trip the warning. So it just doesn't scan for everything. GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 00:49, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, @GreenLipstickLesbian! Can you let me know if I used the CC template appropriately at Failures of water supply and sanitation systems? I'd really appreciate your feedback. :) Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 01:28, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that looks perfect! I mean okay the citation generator filled in the wrong author or something, but I'll fix that. You always have the option of putting the template inside the ref tags of the source itself, but that's really just a matter of preference. (Unless there's some obscure MOS guideline saying we only put this template inside the ref tags on a full moon, and even then only if the url ends in a vowel. If that's the case, then if I disappear you know which cabal is after me!) GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 01:42, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
GreenLipstickLesbian: I decided to use the template inside the ref for Draft:Moneca Delain. We'll see if the MOS ghouls arise. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 22:59, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, @GreenLipstickLesbian! Surprisingly, this is the first time I saw Earwig showed these kinds of banners. Your assessment was right, though. After looking at the code, it seems it specifically looks for: {{CC-notice}}, {{Citation-attribution}}, {{Free-content attribution}}, {{Open-source attribution}}, and {{Source-attribution}}. Other templates won't trigger the banner. This can be changed though; I'll look into doing that for templates mentioned here that don't trip the banner when I have free time. :) Chlod (say hi!) 02:53, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done (and getting off Wikipedia for the evening). Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 05:47, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I actually came to your talk page to say that I was also surprised by your close on the 2.4-dihydroxybenzoic acid RFD - normally in those scenarios where the listing is only a week old and not unanimous then the RFD would be relisted, not closed. I appreciate the admin work to reduce the backlog, but I think that early close was outside RFD norms and should have been relisted instead. BugGhost🦗👻 14:33, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for reaching out, Bugghost! In the case of the2.4-dihydroxybenzoic acid RFD, the discussion included 3 delete !votes and one keep !vote after one week, which is the standard amount of time for a discussion to be open. If you disagree with my decision, I'm happy to ask another administrator to review this discussion, and/or you can raise the issue at deletion review. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 18:40, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I do not think this specific RFD is important enough to bring to deletion review, so I won't bring us through the trouble of that - this was more to suggest that maybe (considering the above topic too) that maybe you should be less quick to close RFDs. I know I was in a minority in that RFD (I'm fine with being out !voted when it happens), but I have been around long enough to know that there was not enough discussion for a full RFD close. My above comment was intended as advice to a closer, rather than a complaint from a disgruntled participant. BugGhost🦗👻 23:09, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Bugghost! In my conversation with Liz listed above, I was informed that many RFDs only receive 2-3 !votes, which is acceptable for a close. I admit I am still learning the ropes for closing discussion and appreciate the feedback. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 23:15, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Significa liberdade,

Category:Irish explorers of the Arctic showed up on the Empty Categories list and it has two different CFD tags on it. It looked like you closed this CFD discussion and I'm not really sure what should happen with this category now. So, I'm handing it off to you, perhaps you will know whether it should be untagged and then re-tagged CSD C1 or if it is waiting to be filled with relevant articles. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 08:42, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

When closing CFD discussions please list the categories at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Working so that the bot can process the changes completely. Simply moving or deleting the categories whilst not touching the articles creates these problems. Timrollpickering (talk) 14:19, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Timrollpickering! I was trying to manually handle the changes, but it appears I erred. I'll make sure to do this if I return to CFD in the future. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 17:46, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Citation

[edit]

Hi significa liberdadde hope you are doing well.

We have added citation in the content and republished could you please review that and advice.

thanks B sakthivelan (talk) 16:33, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, B sakthivelan! I have reviewed many articles. Can you tell me which article you're referring to? Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 18:02, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Draft:Sakthi Film Factory kindly refer the link that i have attached in this message B sakthivelan (talk) 10:34, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for adding some in-text citations, B sakthivelan! Unfortunately, I noticed two primary issues:
  1. The article reads like an advertisement. Articles on Wikipedia need to be written in a neutral tone.
  2. Although you have added some in-text citations, much of the article still does not include in-text citations. Further, the in-text citations are for IMDb, which Wikipedia does not consider a reliable source because it is user-generated.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have further questions. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 16:34, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Rejected draft

[edit]

Hi! I'm unclear why Draft: Greg Breeding was rejected. Could you clarify what it's missing for consideration? Thanks! Abbyfp (talk) 20:27, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, Abbyfp! I rejected Draft:Greg Breeding for multiple reasons:
  1. Because the article is a biography of a living person, there are specific standards for in-line citations. At present, the sections discussing Breeding's life are largely unsourced.
  2. The article contains copyrighted material from USPS, which is not allowed on Wikipedia. I have reverted your recent update to ensure the article doesn't contain copyright violations. Please review WP:COPYVIO for more informtion.
  3. Most of the sources are primary, which do not establish notability, which is what we're looking for when determining whether a person (or other subject) deserves to have their own Wikipedia article.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have further questions. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 20:33, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much for the clear explanation. Can you clarify #2, regarding copyrighted material from USPS? I'm a little confused what's considered a copyright violation: The stamp names? Appreciate it! Abbyfp (talk) 21:03, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Rejected Draft

[edit]

Hello,

We do not have the history of the temple. But it's an very old one around and age of 500 years and must be documented for better visibility of public. Rameshbattini (talk) 05:04, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Rameshbattini! Can you tell me which article you're referring to? Regardless, when determining which articles belong on Wikipedia, we require reliable, independent sources with significant coverage of the topic. If such sources are not available for this temple (whether in news papers, websites, etc.), it may not be notable enough to be included. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 05:06, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The draft which you rejected just before.
It's about Chennakesava Swamy Temple, Chukkaluru Rameshbattini (talk) 05:08, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again, Rameshbattini! Draft:Chennakesava Swamy Temple, Chukkaluru does not include any citations. In order to be published to Wikipedia, it needs sources. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 05:10, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello,
This temple is not mentioned no where. That's why we want to mention it on wiki as this temple is a great monument.
Also there is one site which mentioned about this temple, but the site is blocked by wiki. So I can't add it in references. You can also see this one on Google maps Rameshbattini (talk) 05:14, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Rameshbattini! If the temple is not mentioned in any sources, the temple should not be included on Wikipedia as "Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information" (WP:INDISCRIMINATE). Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 05:16, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,
I have taken the reference of Existing article. Seems this one is also not mentioned anywhere.
Could you please help me to understand what is the main difference between them for accepting existing article and rejecting the current one? Rameshbattini (talk) 05:22, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Rameshbattini! The difference is that the Koulutla Chennakesava Temple article was created in 2009, and our standards were lower back then. I have added a maintenance tag to that article to request someone find sources; if sources cannot be found, that article should also be deleted. If you would like, you can help find sources for that temple! Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 05:25, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello,
No please don't remove that existing one because of me. Rameshbattini (talk) 05:27, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Raph Williams65! Can you tell me why you would like the page protected? Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 05:19, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Because is contains reliable information and clear explanation of who a Computer Manager is. | Raph Williams65 (talk) 05:25, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Raph Williams65! Thank you for your quick explanation! However, we do not preemptively protect pages; we only do so when there is a history of vandalism.
Additionally, after taking a look at two of the articles you recently created (Computer Manager and Computer System Administrator), I wanted to point you toward some important guides on Wikipedia, including our guide to writing your first article. Importantly, topics discussed on Wikipedia must meet our notability guidelines. To do so, the topic must be covered in reliable, independent sources, which should be cited in the article to verify information. Given that your articles do not currently include any sources, it is likely they will either be deleted or moved to the draft space, where you would be able to work on them, then submit them to be reviewed by a more experienced editor.
Please review some of these guidelines and let me know if you have any follow-up questions! Take care, Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 05:34, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Upper Hand Organization R3T8V2W7 (talk) 18:06, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, R3T8V2W7! Unfortunately, this draft article is still not ready to be published for two main reasons:
  1. There is not enough information about the organization in the article to provide sufficient context and understanding of the topic. At present, the article seems to focus on Mohamad Al-Mail, not the organization.
  2. Because the organization appears to be related to the Arab-Israeli conflict, broadly construed, you are not permitted to edit the article. Wikipedia considers the Arab-Israeli conflict to be a contentious topic, and only extended-confirmed editors may edit pages related to the conflict. As such, I recommend refraining from editing that page until your account is at least 30 days old and you have made more than 500 edits.

The link you used in your edit summary on Fawzia Amin Sido was a red link. Wikipedia:CTOP/AI

I'm "aware" of the contentious topic, so I think I know what you meant. But I have seen a red link in other similar edit summaries, I don't know if they were also you.

I also wanted to see the discussion about it. Is that what the red link was supposed to direct to? I don't object, I only wanted to read it.

Tag me please if you reply here, but an answer on the talk page for that page might be better, for anyone else who sees the red link in the history and wants to know more.

Wandering about and noticed this. I've fixed the redlinks by redirecting it like WP:CT/AI. SilverLocust 💬 06:55, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@SilverLocust, Thank you. On the topic of redirects, the redirect "child suicide bomber" should be protected to avoid it being reverted to how it was before the recent discussion. But I am not sure how to request that. Industrial Metal Brain (talk) 10:55, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, @Industrial Metal Brain! Typically, we do not preemptively protect a page (i.e., protect before any vandalism has occurred); the one caveat is that if an administrator notices a page that falls under WP:ECR, it is acceptable to preemptively protect due to standing arbitration. If you notice that a user is overturning the redirect, feel free to reach out to me. You can also request page protection here. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 13:11, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It would count as Arab-Israeli conflict. But I don't know if that applies to redirects. Industrial Metal Brain (talk) 14:18, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Veno 258 Hi there. Whatever the article is, yes, inline citations would be great. It would help reviewers to verify the contents of the page, so do add them. See here for guide. Happy editing, Vanderwaalforces (talk) 06:20, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Are you asking if you can use parenthetical citations, such as those used in APA or MLA format? If so, the community has agreed that parenthetical citations should not be used in new articles (see WP:PAREN). Instead, you should use Wikipedia's in-text citation style. For information about referencing on Wikipedia, you can check out "Referencing for Beginners". Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 15:23, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
