POV

And with every comment you make you are showing your POV. More than once I stuck my neck out for you but I suppose you forgot that. We never have to agree on anything but thinking anyone should not be editing an article because they have a differing viewpoint is very unwikipedian of you. I'm pretty disappointed that you would suggest that.--MONGO 03:19, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

If someone has too POV of a stance toward the reliable sources to use them neutrally, then they should avoid a topic. If your POV on the subject didn't extend beyond your opinion, it would be fine, but you are constantly trying to discredit the reliable sources based on your POV. That is blatant POV editing. The only question we should be asking is whether the sources and authors are reliable sources. Nothing more. SilverserenC 05:13, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
Its not that simplistic but you're entitled to be wrong and rude if you wish. I shouldn't have wasted my time on you.--MONGO 06:02, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

Hatoful Boyfriend

Hey Silver seren,

I just wanted to leave a friendly note regarding the Hatoful Boyfriend article that you nominated for GA-status. I took a quick look at it and noticed that there are a lot of sentences that are not sorced. If I was the reviewer I would of failed the article immediatly. I just wanted to let you know about this so you can fix it now before another person fails it (afterall, you've been waiting for 2 months).--Dom497 (talk) 23:19, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

@Dom497: Thanks, i've gone through it and fixed a few things, removing some unneeded sentences. At this point, it looks like the only "unreferenced" parts are in the plot section, which doesn't need to be referenced. Are there any other issues I missed? SilverserenC 00:48, 13 February 2015 (UTC)
Sorry for the late reply. Based off a fast skim, it appears you fixed everything. Of course there is probably a few grammar issues in the article (as there is with most articles) but I haven't read the article in depth.--Dom497 (talk) 01:06, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

WP:Cooperation mentoring

Hi Silver! I'm relatively new around Wikipedia, but have been doing some paid COI work in the time I've been here. I saw you were the founder of WP:Cooperation, and that you'd mentored users in the past. I was wondering if you still have the time or desire for such an undertaking. I'm looking for a mentor to help me understand the depths and nuances of the wide world of Wikipedia, and also who ideally has some background in dealing with COI editors, but the wikiproject seems relatively inactive. I realize I can find mentors through other channels, but I was hoping you're still active in the process, as it seems you have valuable insight into the specific problems with COI edits. If you can't, might you know anyone else involved in the project who might be able to help me out? Thanks! --FacultiesIntact (talk) 21:56, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

@FacultiesIntact: I haven't been as active lately for a variety of reasons (one of the primary ones being university graduation), but i'm past all that now. I'm still trying to work on getting back into the swing of things here though.
But, in short, yes, i'm available to mentor you if you'd like. What kind of mentor were you looking for exactly, beyond just COI things? Me just responding to questions you have and the like? SilverserenC 22:20, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
Hey Silver, congrats on your graduation! As for a mentor, I'm looking for pretty much what you described. Given my inherent conflict of interest in the pages that I get paid to work on, it'd be really helpful for me to get an outside opinion on not just what I'm writing, but how I'm writing it and how to best propose changes and improvements. I think being transparent about my actions is a good start, but I've found it's not always enough. I'm also striving to be an active member of the Wikipedia community outside of my COI work, and it seems like the more I learn about this place, the more I realize there is that I don't know. So far I've been trying to stay active in WP:GOCE, but I'm also looking for other places where I can bring value to the community. I'll take any help I can get, so really, thank you for taking the time! --FacultiesIntact (talk) 17:59, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
@FacultiesIntact: My main suggestion for working on articles that you have a COI on is to copy the current version of the article and paste it into a Draft located at Draft:(Article Name), which will allow you to improve it without having to directly edit the mainspace version. Once you have your edits completed, get several people to look it over and have one of them submit the new version into the article. Your best bet for reviewers is to ask at related Wikiprojects to the article topic.
As for other work, anything over at WP:BACKLOG would be useful, depending on what type of editing you do best. SilverserenC 18:34, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
Would you mind helping me review the work I've done on Honeywell? I prepared a draft a couple of months ago here, but haven't received much feedback on it. User:GeorgeLouis recommended introducing small changes slowly, and while I don't think it's necessarily a bad idea, I'm always curious to hear other opinions on the matter. Even after detailing all of my proposed changes on the talk page, I haven't gotten any real responses, and my experience soliciting help from users on relevant WikiProjects hasn't been terribly fruitful. Could it be because of how I'm wording things when asking for help, or because of the large-scale changes? One of my biggest hurdles has been finding other editors to actually collaborate with me in improving the articles I'm working on. --FacultiesIntact (talk) 19:07, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for taking the time to check it out and crosspost it to the COI noticeboard. I have a question regarding decorum here as there's a few other things I have prepared and ready to be reviewed for publishing: would it be considered in poor taste to submit them for review while my other work is still awaiting publishing? I don't want to let it just sit around, but I don't want to inundate other users with a series of edit requests either. --FacultiesIntact (talk) 20:27, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

Assistance

Hi Silver, I was wondering if you could perhaps help me out - I recently created a new entry for Josh Swade, a documentary filmmaker. Shortly after it went up, another user put NPOV and notability tags on it. I feel the entry proves the filmmaker's notability, that it is written in a neutral tone, and I've declared my COI on the talk page, so I feel like the tags are unnecessary, and are harming what would otherwise be a solid entry. Would you mind taking a look and, if you feel the subject is notable, removing the tags or offering whatever assistance you think is correct in this situation? FYI, two previous entries on the filmmaker were deleted for lack of notability, but, like I said, I feel his notability is proven with the entry I've written. Let me know your thoughts when you have a minute.--Bernie44 (talk) 23:18, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

@Acl92886: Right away, I can tell you that you need to work on the references in the article to establish notability. There are way too many primary sources from the organization's website itself in use right now. You need to replace most, if not all, of them with secondary news, book, or journal article sources. Notes

Hi, these can be done either as a (sub)class of references, or using the efn (e-footnote, I guess) template, but not both at once. And of course one shouldn't change a system of referencing once it is in use. But since I agree with you that efn is easier to use, I've changed it here so we only have one system again. Verb. sap., as they used to say. Chiswick Chap (talk) 06:44, 12 July 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, I was just working through the missing reference lists category and trying to fix articles via the simplest method. It does get really confusing when references are trying to use both efn and groups, especially multiple groups. SilverserenC 18:50, 12 July 2015 (UTC)

The article was removed in 2010. A Polish article, based on Polish only sources exists. The Talk page is blank, so the critic perished.Xx236 (talk) 08:14, 10 July 2015 (UTC)

@Xx236: Okay. And? SilverserenC 19:14, 10 July 2015 (UTC)
I'm interested why the article was removed and how to restore it.Xx236 (talk) 05:42, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
@Xx236: Based on both discussions at AfD, it looks like the main thing that needs to be done is to add additional reliable sourcing, preferably sources that are available to be perused online, rather than having to rely on the word of the editors using the offline sources, as there are concerns about the accurate use of those offline sources. So if you can find news articles, books, scholarly articles, ect, online that have information on the militia, then that would be a good step toward making the article ready to return to main articlespace. SilverserenC 07:39, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
The Polish article quotes:

I haven't read the articles and I don't have any opinion about their quality. Xx236 (talk) 08:26, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

@Xx236: Those looks like perfectly reliable sources to me. Feel free to edit and work on the article in my userspace (you can even move it to your own userspace, if you'd like). My only suggestion is to be careful that you don't mix up any information between the People's Militia and the Ukrainian Auxiliary Police, which was a concern during the AfDs, as the former eventually became the latter. Question for my mentor

Hey Silver, I know you've been away for a while, but I was wondering if you could help guide me with a question I had. I've been working on David M. Cote on and off for a long time, and after initially butting heads with nearly everyone (I was rather new at the time) I've started to make some progress with another editor. However, at this juncture, we disagree on whether the CEO of a corporation can/should be held solely responsible for the actions of the company. Would this be a suitable question to open up an RfC?--FacultiesIntact (talk) 22:03, 10 July 2015 (UTC)

@FacultiesIntact: That's a fine thing to have an RfC on. Personally, without knowing about this specific case, I would say that inclusion of company actions on a biography article should only be done if the actions or controversy relate to the person specifically, such as if they were involved in corruption in regards to the company. It has to be some sort of personal activity. But a controversy just involving a company in general should be on the company page and not on a biography page, as that would be a very undue weight issue. That's my two cents on the matter at least. SilverserenC 22:01, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
So I instead opted for a 3O, and got a response from someone there. However, the editor I'm in a dispute with has yet to respond to the opinion itself or my inquiry a week ago as to whether or not he agrees with it. How would you recommend I move forward from here?--FacultiesIntact (talk) 22:28, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
@FacultiesIntact: I would bring it up with the person who responded to the 3O, so see what the next best course of action would be. SilverserenC 22:39, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

Question about periodic table layout

Hi! Thanks for your question at the Elements Project about the placement of the lanthanides, actinides, and group 3 at Wikipedia's periodic table. Nature published a good news item on the table layout here at the same time that they published the paper with with lawrencium ionization data. The news article does a great job explaining the situation in a brief way, and notice how Sato, the lead author of the Lawrencium article, wrote that he didn't think his team's paper answered the layout issue in either direction. However, there have been many reasons to not include lanthanum and actinium in group 3 for many years, so Professor Poliakoff's statement is also understandable. I changed Wikipedia's table in 2005 to remove these two elements from group 3 and make Wikipedia's table "not-wrong" (in Poliakoff's view), and Wikipedia's table has been mostly not-wrong since then, although there are still multiple ways to be not-wrong. You can read about that at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Flying_Jazz#Starting_in_June.2C_2005:_Periodic_Table_and_other_chemical_matters . I'm answering on your talk page instead of on the Elements Project page because I've found that the tiny number of editors in that project repeatedly misrepresent the words of other editors and even the plain text of authors in the literature, so I don't contribute there any longer.

The organization that might at some point put out a nomenclature recommendation is IUPAC. The IUPAC meeting referred to in the Nature news item took place just last week ([1]), but I haven't heard any news yet about IUPAC addressing this group 3 issue, and I'd be surprised if they issue any recommendation about it. With time, I think the 32-column form of the table with lutetium and lawrencium in group 3 will gain in popularity, but that's an editorial decision for every book and web page to make. Flying Jazz (talk) 15:50, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

Here is further information that I found earlier today (assuming that you're interested) about IUPAC's lack of interest in the question . Flying Jazz (talk) 00:06, 24 August 2015 (UTC)

Advice

Hey Seren, hope you've been well. I was wondering if you could help advise me on avenues to pursue in making changes to David M. Cote. If you remember, I was butting heads with another user about what was appropriate content for the article, and took it to 3O. The opinion agreed with me, but the users concerned are no longer involved in editing the page. I've since submitted an edit request, and I know standard protocol is to wait, but are there any other channels I could go through?--FacultiesIntact (talk) 02:30, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
